基本が無意識に出るくらいで自由一本組手の間合いを掴み、いざ発揮する時は基本の技なんですね タカさんは未だに宮平先生の話は段々痛さ思い出す笑顔になるのがちょっと辛いです😅

About Tai Chi Chuan, Kanazawa sensei had a student who was an expert at tai Chi Chuan and, as this people proposed Kanazawa sensei to show him some Tai Chi Chuan pratices he agreed because he thought it would be impolite to decline this offer from a man who was studying under him as it would be somehow disrecpecful for other martial tradition. After a while, Kanazawa sensei felt that Tai Chi Chuan was something valuable to study and so he did and became a real expert in the art. ( This is from an interview from kanazawa sensei to the french magazine Karate-Bushido )

The more I learned from the Soft / Internal Arts... the more my Combat Abilities grew. There is a lot of Misunderstandings about arts like this. It often looks weak, and unrealistic, to the outside observer. But I was a truth seeker... and so I sought out fighters with depth of experience, in these artforms / methods... and let me tell you, that feeling is Believing. From Devastating Explosive short range power... to penetration power that nearly caves in your chest + send you flying +12 ft away. Fluidity, speed, and quickly adaptive hand skills. Like water.. they can be soft, and absorbing... or they can be hard as Iron, like impacting the water flat... from a 100ft tall fall. Much of the Chinese arts technology is rooted from Tai Chi principles and TC training methods. In Wing Chun, for example... they do "Chi Sao", which is a "Rolling Arms" sensitivity + coordination building partner drill. This is a reduced form of Tai Chi 's "Push Hand" Drills... which uses a very similar method.... (but extends to a lot more depth + complexity).

3:01 from the demonstration in the opening, I thought it was a knee strike to the ribs more than a sweep. I'm guessing it could be either way?

When you know what's coming the timing is light years off... This can be seen in the movement and positioning of the intercept... The question is how and if you can do it when you don't know what's coming... It's extremely easy to fool yourself into thinking that something "works" when the timing and position is artificial... The introduction of fakes, feints and other possible attacks completely changes how the CNS processes the information we see and how we react...

Agreed but karate also has what we call "free" sparring.

"Yakusoku-Kumite" means a pre-agreed upon sequence of movements. We do this repeatedly so our body can react naturally. You will see the exact same process in all Japanese martial arts whether in Judo, Kendo, Aikido, etc. In sports or military, it's often call "muscle memory."
