This is a good video. Most Shito-Ryu practitioners have long been aware of the relationship between karate and kobudo so its not new to them, however I appreciate Naka Sensei's open approach to discovery. It is an extreme rarity within the JKA. He would make a great future "chief instructor" of that organization.
Dear Kuro-obi, I would love more interviews like this one, talking about the similarities between karate and kobudo. Some great masters to interview would be Akamine Hiroshi (Ryukyu Kobudo Shimbukan, Okinawa), Hidemi Tamayose (Ryukyu Kobudo Tesshinkan, Okinawa), Yukio Kuniyoshi (Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai, Okinawa), Masakazu Kinjo (Ryukyu Kobudo Hozonkai, Okinawa) or Kisho Inoue (Ryukyu Kobujutsu Hozon Shinko Kai, Japan). All these organizations and dojos were created to honor the legendary kobudo master Shinken Taira by some of his closest students.

I been traing with weapons ever since Bruce Lee picked up two sticks in Enter The Dragon. First I used one stick like a nunchucks. Then two sticks. I do all my Katas with one or two sticks. Shotokan Katas. Since studying Aikido,I’ve incorporated the Jo, Sai, and Bokken in my Kata training. Really adds to your workout and deeper understanding of the Kata and weapon. Oss.

Yeah, karate is a martial art where you can use defense and attack in one move Basically, martial art is a weapon without weapon. so if they learn to overcome their fear before using it, they can use it in a real situation without the hesitation. This practice has been lost in many other martial arts

Funny thing is I've had the same thoughts a few weeks ago - regarding the use of swords in comparison to fighting bare-handed. ^^

Les armes són extensions del cos , lleves les armes i queda el cos que es una altra arma. Estudia armes es estudia el cos, un pensament exelent. Excelencia , un camí a la perfecció, vostè és un mestre excelent. Un gran Mestre.

Naka-sensei is incredible. He is more quick as a quillotine. :-D I like his movies and his real training. He has to have karate in his DNA, his blood and his soul. I would like to have him as my sensei. But I am implanted with a defibrillator, so I am not allowed to learn karate. Who is/was his sensei?
you can't go round the streets carrying any sort of weapons. Only thing worth carrying that won't attract attention is a short Yawara stick ,that fits in a closed fist .Personally after long time makiwara practise ,I rely on a powerful straight chudan punch .There were not many guys at my dojo could block a straight punch from me.
