I have used the nunchaku since 1971. One will learn all of the fine tips in this video for themselves by striking targets. The sensei was very pragmatic in admitting that the nunchaku is a very limited weapon, especially for defense. At age 65, I still practice with the nunchaku and jo, (and French baton) daily. This was a wonderful video.

Very good points. I love the finer moves, the holds, and the aiming. I never thought much about what part of the head I was swinging at. Now I understand. Thank you so much for a great video! At 72 it is fantastic to still be learning

I’ve been practicing kobudo for 15 years. I appreciate you talking about proper stance for balance and tactics. Of the weapons I train with (including bo, tonfa, sai, and hanjo), nunchaku is the most difficult for me to learn. This video will aid me in mastering this weapon. Domo arigato!

I found the nunchaku simple if you master your footwork and think of it as a two part weapon, as in you should always aim to be using two at once. :) most of the forms here are combative and very well showcased.
@jchendrix Жыл бұрын
All weapons are the same if you think of them as rings of motion around your body, they all follow the same laws of motion. ;)

Excellent. Most chuckers treat the nunchuck like a toy and twirl it like they’re leading a marching band. I taught myself how to use it practically and have developed techniques similar to yours. For instance, I have the same stance so I don’t hit myself in the legs. I leverage my hits more like a katana handle though. Flick the lever right during the hit. So much power that it’ll break if made of chain. I use doubled parachord similar to your setup.

In old okinawan kobudō when we did our katas they taught to use the correct footwork to avoid hitting your ankles and to generate proper power. They also taught never to strike down with the nunchaku as in a lot of Japanese martial art stances you can injury yourself striking downwards however if you master the Nunchaku you can strike however you like and in this video the instructor is striking downwards.

The instructor here has very good form, it looks like they are practicing a form of Okinawan Kobudō as the katas look similar. Almost all of the techniques here are combative and used for defence or fighting. The instructor has thrown in a few disguise movements into his stances and appears to be teaching disguise through correct form.

Excellent! Around minute 18:00, they're talking about using the same hand as the front foot in Nekoashi Datchi. The reason it feels strange at first is because when our feet are close together, we throw baseballs and rocks with the rear hand. Nunchaku practice is more like throwing darts -- more about accuracy than power.

I’m fairly sure Shad of Shadiversity already knew most of the information stated in this video since he has had training with nunchaku, but it’s still interesting for him (and myself) to watch. Considering that this video does address some (if not all) of the potential flaws with the nunchaku, and Shad argues that nunchaku are objectively bad weapons compared to other weapons rather than saying nunchaku are not good weapons, this video is good for people who overrate nunchaku to watch

@@MansMan42069 You are probably right. However, this question is still brought up. Can you honestly say that a nunchaku is as good, or better, than a stick of the same length and weight if it takes a lot more training and experience to use correctly than it would with the stick?
