I first heard Nirvana when I was 11 and I was immediately addicted to Nevermind. My much older cousin showed it to me and I just wanted to listen to it over and over again. It wasn't long before I discovered the mighty MELVINS, which I also immediately became addicted to. In 1996 I was 15 and went to the Cat's Cradle in NC to see the Melvins. It was just them and they played 3 sets. After the show, everyone (quite a lot of people) went out the back of the building. I immediately walked around to the front and went back inside and asked a guy if Buzz was around. He said yeah, he's right over there. I went up and don't really remember what I said, but there was a cooler and Buzz asked if I wanted a Pepsi. We walked out the front of the building and it was just us, and I was a very awkward, quiet, shy 15-year-old and didn't really know what to say. He asked me if I liked the show and the 3 sets, and just started talking to me like a regular dude and I have to tell you, IT WAS SO FREAKIN SURREAL just standing there chatting one-on-one with the main guy who was not only in my favorite band at the time (one of my all-time faves still to this day), but who I knew was also really good friends with Kurt freakin Cobain. We talked for maybe 5 minutes, maybe a bit longer, then all the sudden a bunch of people from the back of the building turned the corner and started yelling BUZZ! BUZZ! and running over and he actually had to start telling people to calm down and not touch him. As soon as that happened I knew it was over, and I remember I said quietly to him I have to go and he just looked at me dead in the eyes and said a soft "Okay, bye..." Then he turned back to the mob and I remember as I was walking away he was backing up with his hands up saying no, no, no because some dude was trying to put a sticker on his forehead. But those 5 or so minutes where it was just me and him standing there softly chatting in the quiet night, it was a very special thing for me and a great memory and I'm glad I got to experience it.

...this is the van that Nirvana toured, lived and slept in during the Bleach era, probably even before their SubPop days back when they didn't have 2 pennies to rub together half of the time. This is back when Dale Grover was their drummer. This vehicle is a piece of national history and seeing it sitting in this dilapidated state is just depressing. Think of all days and nights of the bands equipment being slid in and out of the back of that thing while it sat in an alley behind some sleazy bar or low brow gig..
