August, 1993 Seattle. Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. The original video was region blocked so I re-uploaded it here and managed to get the copyright claims lifted.

***** she introduces herself at the beginning of the video... she does "book shows" and talks to different people about books they have read, and how they inspire people and what they learned from it...so she's just randomly interviewing him, he has a few books that helped him along the way so he starts talking about them and it just morphs into other questions. They get along and it's a very nice interview because like womankiller420 says in the comments above they're just vibing off each other, and they have a cool dynamic no pre written mumbo jumbo, just honest conversation....

I've never cried so much for a famous person. And I'll tell you why. First of all, this guy was such a sweet guy, open minded and intelligent. He literally thought 30 years ahead. Kurt's ideas were not appreciated at that time, but now we come in conclusion that it's right. Rest in peace brother.

Just the complete lack of pretension in the guy. Totally down to earth, without any of the bullshit rockstar persona that those who have followed in his footsteps always seem to wear.

This is an awesome interview, with an amazing guy, but there's one tiny detail that gave me a whole new level of respect for Kurt - he blew his smoke away from the interviewer. Having been around a great deal of smokers, it is extremely uncommon for someone to consider your personal feelings in comparison to their own and blow the smoke in a different direction. It's a small thing, but it shows how genuinely nice Kurt was.

+Dan Dunning I do the same thing...although it's unfortunate I smoke, I don't believe others should have to breathe in that crap. I always make sure that others' comfort is above mine when it comes to vices...after all, I wouldn't want anyone blowing smoke at me either. Kurt was just a normal guy in an extraordinary position...it was just too much for him.

even though I smoke now I always take other people's health into consideration. growing up my step dad would hotbox the car in the winter with smoke and not even crack the window lol. I'm 23 and if I take my nephew some where I won't smoke because I know he hates it. if I'm with someone that don't mind I always blow smoke in the opposite direction and have the window down enough to vent because I know from being a kid that was horrible.

Matt Daniels I think it's true. His suicide note was written in 3 different handwritings, he was found with enough heroin in his system to kill him anyways and the fact that she wanted his money but if he went through the divorce she wouldn't get any of it Also a piece of paper found in her back pocket showed her trying to imitate Kurt's handwriting
@ungulate10009 жыл бұрын
They questioned the owner of the gun shop and Kurt had in fact gone in a purchased the exact gun he shot himself with on the exact day. Remember courtney removed all the guns from the house out of fear Kurt would hurt himself.
@Derp0099 жыл бұрын
Matt Daniels No. Kurt bought a shotgun forever before he killed himself. It was used to security in the house for awhile and they keeped it in their closet.
@ungulate10009 жыл бұрын
Eh, no. The gun he used was purchased shortly before death. Read the reports not the speculation. Secondly no. It was not in three different hand writings it was in two. Both the same hand writing. It had appeared his first pen had run out of ink. And the second line was simply in a different colored ink.

Alana Rose His left shoe says FUHGAWZ, and his right says foogauzie. Kurt Cobain apparently wrote “FUHGAWZ” on his left shoe to make fun of Peal Jam’s Eddie Vedder. Vedder once wrote “Fuhgawz” on his shirt just before a photo shoot, intentionally misspelling the word Fugazi, which is a punk band from Washington, DC. Kurt who didn’t like Pearl Jam did this to basically make fun of Vedder.

I never said it was "brave" but the simple fact of the matter is, is that a personal who suffers from severe depression interrupts things differently. And to sit and say that committing suicide is the "easy" way out is ludicrous. Troops over seas who suffer from PTSD who commit suicide get labeled as heros while those who suffer silently simply "take the easy way out."
@aestheticswilliams68589 жыл бұрын
Matt Daniels One in his mind it was the easy way out. reason he felt as he had no hope. and that he could not go on living. NO ONE should be labeled a hero for taking their life. PTSD is much worse then what he might have been going through (again might) the fact of the matter is. someone was there telling him not to do it the whole time. he knew what he was about to do was wrong. he left is kid behind. now SHE has to grow up with out a dad. never knowing what it would be like to have a dad. in her mind she might be thinking even she was not enough to keep him around. he a banded her. and the one that was there telling him to stop. was Christ Himself, but kurt has free will. and kurt sent himself to hell. he is in hell fire with demons now and all his problems went with him. God bless his kid. God tried to bless kurt, but he rejected it and stayed on the road to hell himself. no ones fault, but his. he even shot up with drugs before he pulled the trigger to make it (EASIER on HIM) easy way out? more like the fools way out. BC hell is on the other side waiting. and it is moved to meet you at your coming. Isaiah 14:9
@ungulate10009 жыл бұрын
If you truly believe you experience "fire and brimstone" after you die this conversation is over. With your Christian logic every soldier who goes over seas to die will essentially end up in hell. They're leaving their kids behind and are fully aware that they are going into a situation to die? So with your logic they're going burn in hell? This is why I can't stand religion. It puts an asterisk next to "hero". Tell me what's the difference between turning a knife on yourself and entering an area where knives are forcibly turned upon you. There's none they're both stupid decisions.

for what he battled, the addictions, chronic pain, family trauma, he single-handily defied the human spirit at how much one can do with so much going on. I personally don't think anybody could diagnose him with a proper mental illness. it was whenever his stomach didn't hurt, he was happy or whenever his scoliosis wasn't bothering him, he was fine. Kurt'd still be here today if he were never an avid user of heroin & I think he was so beautiful in just his pure presence

Now all I wish I could prove is if that was actually his number. I can't seem to prove it. Erika Ehm was always one of the worst VJs on Much but I remember the day this interview aired she actually pulled it together and did one of the best Cobain interviews ever. Brings back great memories of the music scene in the U.S and Canada at the time. Thanks for posting this video!!!!

I've been a big Nirvana fan for about six years and I always find that I come back to this particular interview. Partly because In Utero was my favorite record by them and remains one of my favorite albums of all time, but also, for some reason, this interview doesn't really seem to play into the mythos of Kurt Cobain. I mean, obviously, it was months before he died, but it frames him as a regular, relatable human being which I think emphasizes why Nirvana's music has a such strong resonation.

Wow, I really wish I could have heard what they were going to do with their next album... He's talking about how they're done with grunge and are going to move onto something new, re-invent new wave(?!) I bet it would have been amazing...

He apparently was going to work with Michael stipe of REM and work on some more mellower melodic jams with lots of strings. It would have been no doubt his masterpiece! What a Shame to go from us like that. The world loved him but the media and inner circle record pigs drove him insane. It breaks my heart when she candidly tells him how amazingly nice and peaceful good vibes he seemed to radiate effortlessly

So happy that this interview exists to show how he truly was. A real, down to earth dude from Aberdeen. Matter of fact he was too down to earth. Miss him and his music greatly. For those that grew up with Nirvanas music, it was THE defining music of a generation. Kobain never intended to get rich and famous.

people like to pick apart and decipher this guy. he just keeps it real.. if he would have lived, anyone having the chance to meet him, would feel as comfortable as they would with a best friend.. he was a good person. had a big heart, was sensitive, also had a lot of self loathing. i was in a relationship with someone like that. that self loathing is so deep seeded in these types of people that its heart breaking.. point im making is, when you think of kurt, think of a friend. thats what he was.

It seems like Kurt is very gracious in this interview and he appreciates that the reporter doesn't try to take advantage of it - he can tell she's not very experienced and is trying to do an honest interview, so it ends up going really well. Great video.

He seems so sincere, like a real person. I'm not the type of person to normally spew hate on new music and new culture, but you see these new celebrities and theyre so media trained and so programmed that they dont seem real. I guess celebrities have been like that forever though.... Kurts just special I think

I read the diaries of Kurt Cobain and he truly is a genius because whether your an angst ridden teen, or a 9 to 5 average joe, you can still have your own interpretations of his journal entries. Me being a kid from queens ny, who was born 1991 i was surrounded by a lot of rap, especially from 1994 to 2000, and eminem was god to me back than which is only natural considering i was 3 when kurt died. But once the rap became so over dramatized with no substance i started listening to bands of Nu Metal like Linkin Park, Disturbed, Slipknot, System of a Down etc. Those bands had more substance that i was looking for in music but once again some of them were a stretch to make there point across in a song, so i decided to go back to the 90s and 80s. At first i saw on youtube the 100 greatest artists of all time, saw the Guns N Roses segment and fell in love with the band right there, only because as a kid i thought they were an old rock band that my pops put me on to, than i saw Axl for the first time when i was a kid during the 2001 vma's, and Axl was terrible but later on when i saw that excerpt of GnR i saw a young Axl trying to make his way through Cali, hungry for glory, and was ready to bulldoze anyone in his way, (similar to what im trying to do) energetic with a chip on his shoulder and that voice which could be a sweet dull whisper to when hes screaming bloody murder. After i found out about Kurt Cobain, through a beef that Axl and Kurt had and because rappers were using Cobain references in there music for the last 15 years, so out of curiosity i checked out Nirvana and fell in love with them and was able to relate to him by also being an opiate addict. And being an ex addict and reading his diaries i was able to really understand his feelings and made me feel closer to him as an individual and not the music icon of generation X. So I did read his diaries and did discover who he was and because of him my entire outlook on music has changed, where now im listening to music that conveys a message or a song that reminds you of your past or present, that makes you feel like only you and the artist understand. Thanks Kurt. All of your fans will forever be indebted to you.

This is what drugs and depression can do taking away a beautiful soul who had a beautiful daughter he dearly loved. He was so sweet and had the sweetest laugh. Attractive but it just a different way.The interviewer was sweet and respectful as well.This is nothing against Courtney but he needed a stable woman in his life. She had problems herself. And i still say his father could have done more. I think he could have been the one to save him. If he had stepped up and given him the love he should have.

My ex boyfriend had the same blue eyes and the exact same sounding voice, I never noticed or listened to any of Kurt's interviews until recently, and it's crazy how someone can remind you of someone else. My ex was a manic depressive schizophrenic but when I met him he was taking his medication, so most of the time it made him sleep, but he mirrored a lot of similar qualities...only after he went off his medicine did he have problems and we were long broken up by then. Kurt is so sensitive and sweet time goes by so fast, in 1993 I was just in 11th grade busy going to cosmetology classes, and I specifically remember when "smells like teen spirit" came out, funny how they came up with that title of the song, Kurt smelled like his girlfriend's deodorant at the time, it was a joke back then, and I thought there was some real meaning behind it, even weirder how the video went with the title, it was like meant to be...I wonder what he would be doing today if he was still here.

He's such a down to earth person here, really good sense of humor. I'm not buying the suicide story, that was just what Courtney presented to the media and the media made headlines and a big deal out of it. I just feel sorry for Kurt as a person, that most people will remember him, that he died as victim of the rock 'n' roll music business like many before as junkie in a desperate moment...
