I love the way he quotes Sam Cooke ("don't know much about history") and The Band ("don't know much about the shape I'm in") in "Dust Bunnies". KV is obviously his own man, but you can hear all kinds of Americana influences, all coming together into something new.

I just discovered Kurt Vile streaming WZRD from Chicago up here in Wisconsin. I Shazammed "Rollin With the Flow," and am I glad I did. Kurt kills as a songwriter and singer, and he's a fascinating guitarist. Doesn't do traditional "leads" but mixes up all the chords and rhythms to lay down a nice bed of sound. The guys he plays with are awesome as well. I've only scratched the surface in the past two days, but "Pretty Pimpin" is my latest favorite song. It just keeps up this drone and beat, and the imagery is just so cool.

Kurt's MUSIC really helps humble and calm me. That's magic right there. That's what real art's about. An invisible hand that grabs the balloon that escaped from an excited child's grasp. To reconnect . To not feel so alienated . To not feel so alone. To be humbled by the humbler is that humiliation? I sit here stumped in wonder why this feeling of my ego's killer get's such a bad rap. Because it's not down the path of least resistance it's right out of your comfort zone. What about HUMILITY MONTH. People leave their selfie sticks at home and public space are twerk free zones and TIK TOCK STOPS.
