In an interview, Laura talked about their writing process. It all begins with him laying down a beat and they layer from there. Not the conventional way to write a song, but damn does it make for a tasty tune.

@Tokyo Tapes I've seen that more with electronic type music or sampling. Usually in a full band, someone writes a melody that the song is built around. That seems to be the traditional way to write music, but I'm just speaking from personal experience.

@ongakuhaze maybe boring for you, but not everyone else. It's not khruangbin sounds if it is played differently. They must be thinking and brainstorming about what sound they want to create when they started the band.

Joe SGBKU me too! Deployed in Afghanistan and we have a specialist in our battalion that is a literal musical genius and we've been hitting this concert for 3 weeks and man he gets into it , jsut has a hell of alt more rhythm than me lol. We had a convoy ambush where he took some shrapnel from a Russian grenade to the left calve and while waiting for the bird to come get him we were out of the good stuff so my brother turned on this concert to get his mind off it for the 90 minutes and he was jamming eyes closed and rockin his head , hell fuckin yeah! That's music!!! 👌👌

Just a little music history for all. The original songs in the medley they play are - The Edge by David McCallum - Footsteps in the Dark by The Isley Brothers - I keep Forgettin' by Michael Mcdonald - I Want to do Something Freaky to You by Leon Haywood - Summer Madness by Kool and the Gang. Also in Maria Tambien we mix in a little of some Apache by The incredible bongo band. Such a great show listen and feel all the love they are sending you!

By far my favourite live session from these 3 amazing artists. The complexity of their sound is masked by the simplicity it appears to your ears as. I first heard Maria Taben on our national radio broadcaster one evening I was tuning in which was the first time in years. I was hooked the moment I heard the sound. Maria Taben is still my favourite followed closely by the opening track of this set. Mark can make the axe sing and scream. And to think the influence of Thai music that got them noticed was because they missed their original flight or it was cancelled and Mark and Lisa were like "where's the next flight to".........Bangkok. BOOM.

Slog01 deployed with unitnof combat engineers in Afghanistan on Oversite Army outpost and we'd been blaring this concert for 3 weeks lightening the mood and warming our freezing ashes! Our convoy was ambushed returning from a patrol and my brother G-main, took shrapnel to the calve and waiting for the bird to get him we ran out of morphine , one of our units specialists had the pure genius to turn this on,..G was literally eyes closed, no drugs shaking his head enjoying the music! All of my music - analog and digital - is almost strictly punk rock. Somehow, this band popped up on my KZbin, I had to look because the guitarist looked at first like an early 70’s garage rock/proto-punk frontman, and very cool at that. Well, long story short, it’s three days later and I’m still listening to this band. Loving how simple, tight, melodic, balanced, and sublime this trio is!
