A drummer friend pointed out DJ's sly use of sixteenth notes on the hi-hat. And just when my limited intelligence was trying to accomodate both Mark's diaphonous scales and Laura's deft bass tones.

In an interview, Laura talked about their writing process. It all begins with him laying down a beat and they layer from there. Not the conventional way to write a song, but damn does it make for a tasty tune.

@Tokyo Tapes I've seen that more with electronic type music or sampling. Usually in a full band, someone writes a melody that the song is built around. That seems to be the traditional way to write music, but I'm just speaking from personal experience.

I think the few 'alternative' (to mainstream) for lack of a better word that did blow up had a single that was near to what people expect to hear on the radio. And then once they had folks on their side they gave them what they believed in. Take radiohead for instance if it weren't for creep they wouldn't have 'made it' and every one whose loved radiohead or heck is the band doesn't stand behind that tune. But hey who are we to complain meray dost. These guys are the shit and it's a pleasure listening to their every one of their live sets.

Just saw an interview where they met playin in a band at a church for TEN YEARS then he met her and a few years later they decided to let her jump in one night and she killed it. The drummer is also a big hip hop and r&b producer which explains his EPIC on pointless lol amazing! Guitarist said he wished he was playing he drums but thank heavens he's on guitar becaue holy Moses! Wow!!!! All three are unreal! NEVER listended to anything like this in my life till 3 hours ago and I've watched full sets straight , it's 3:45am now and gotta get up in bit but haven't slept becaue I've got this cranked on my Bose setup as loud as it'll go and seriously feeling it!! Never be the same again! Thanks guys! So downloading this stuff! 😍👍👌

By far my favourite live session from these 3 amazing artists. The complexity of their sound is masked by the simplicity it appears to your ears as. I first heard Maria Taben on our national radio broadcaster one evening I was tuning in which was the first time in years. I was hooked the moment I heard the sound. Maria Taben is still my favourite followed closely by the opening track of this set. Mark can make the axe sing and scream. And to think the influence of Thai music that got them noticed was because they missed their original flight or it was cancelled and Mark and Lisa were like "where's the next flight to".........Bangkok. BOOM.

All of my music - analog and digital - is almost strictly punk rock. Somehow, this band popped up on my KZbin, I had to look because the guitarist looked at first like an early 70’s garage rock/proto-punk frontman, and very cool at that. Well, long story short, it’s three days later and I’m still listening to this band. Loving how simple, tight, melodic, balanced, and sublime this trio is!

Joe SGBKU me too! Deployed in Afghanistan and we have a specialist in our battalion that is a literal musical genius and we've been hitting this concert for 3 weeks and man he gets into it , jsut has a hell of alt more rhythm than me lol. We had a convoy ambush where he took some shrapnel from a Russian grenade to the left calve and while waiting for the bird to come get him we were out of the good stuff so my brother turned on this concert to get his mind off it for the 90 minutes and he was jamming eyes closed and rockin his head , hell fuckin yeah!
