What I hate about most coaches is they want to use THEIR system instead of seeing what works best for the players around them. It’s easier to cater a system to the players vs having players all buy in to your system.

Yes. Ive seen new coaches get rid of great players because they didnt fit the new system. Mike Martz trading Greg Olsen for a third rounder in Chicago, Parcells getting rid of Hugh Douglass, Jared Allen being asked to play OLB in Chicago (I’m a Bears and Jets fan).

Everyone is a prisoner of the moment and is glazing Ben Johnson for scoring points with an offense that’s pretty well stacked. Lions got arguably the best offensive line in the NFL, weapons all the way around from RBs to WRs, and a Super Bowl veteran QB. Bears need more than a head coach who gets cute with the X’s & O’s. They need an experienced head coach who won’t be overwhelmed with needing to manage an ENTIRE team and already knows how to install discipline in his locker room. Bears don’t need a fresh faced rookie head coach who’s walking into a Bears dumpster fire while he’s still learning the ropes.

Totally Agree! These two would be terrific hires. Johnson has no HC experience and I can only think of a couple offensive whiz type coaches that have had success as HFCs, more have failed.

When your owner hires a GM, then reveals he had second interview, with Matt Eberfluse that impressed George McCaskey so much, that he hired Eberfluse as head coach. According to a report by Ian Rapaport. Why did you hire Ryan and then do his job for him? Eberfluse got Mario Tricocci make over, but forgot to be head coach. Then you asked Thomas to offensive coordinator one week, then head coach the next! Let Thomas cook! A real leader of men, command with the sound of his voice and his actions. Caleb needs a leader. Thomas has Rocketed up the food chain. I’m very interested to see what he bring to the table after an off season and new weapons on the chess board.

Have to gamble on the hot hand OC. That's where all the best coaches have come from. Look at the leagues best teams, they all are offensive minded coaches paired up with stud QB's. The bears messed up not pursuing Sean Payton. The only stud offensive play caller super bowl winning coach available. Going defensive coach like Mike Vrabel and changing OC on Caleb every other year would stunt his development. As HC his playoff teams were one and done with no super bowl wins.

@@jedi4049 Pete spoke out. I think it is the USC connection and he must see good things in Caleb or he never would have said anything at all. One knock on Caleb, which I do think is valid, is that he doesn't do much in the first half when the games are close and when he's catching up the defenses are backing off allowing for easier connections. I hear about Ben Johnson, but he's never been a head coach and that is not what Kurt was saying we need in a proven head coach. Jon Gruden comes to mind, he got trashed for his emails. He seems more focused on D, I think. Fine, get a Quarterback coach who knows what he's doing and we'll be fine.

People and fans are sooo stupid about the HC position. They think because someone is a great coordinator they'll be a great coach. Chicago needs a HC. Not an unproven coordinator. Head coaching is about "OVER ALL" football knowledge, experience, leadership, success and motivating your roster to play hard into your system. It's about making the best game time decisions that are critical to winning the game. A HC that has connections to select the right coordinators and roster management. Ben Johnson has only proved that he's part of a winning team that has a star studded roster and a bona fide HC in Dan Campbell. That's it. No Superbowl appearance at all. Wherever Ben goes to coach he's not taking anyone with him from Detroit. I'd rather run with Kingsbury who is showing out with a lesser roster and a rookie QB and already knows Head Coaching in the NFL. "Pete Carroll" now is a superior HC. 2x AP College National Champion! A Superbowl Champion! 181-131 record with 15 out of 19 winning season! Look what he did with a 3rd round QB Russell Wilson. Superbowl. If you think he's too old then you're young and dumb because older folks are pretty smart. Pete Carroll has waaaaay more everything and connections in football then Ben Johnson.
