I don't know whether James is Autistic or just has the same "special interest" passion that a lot of autistic people experience but I am autistic and I relate deeply to his "this is what I am meant to do. I don't care if people don't like it, because there are people who do like it and I want to share my passion with them" mindset. There was this kid at my highschool who absolutely loved Michael Jackson, he was Autistic and MJ was his special interest. He knew all his songs, all the moves, he could answer any question about MJ. He spent all of his free time practising his dance moves and he was REALLY good at it. By 16 he was running his own business as a Michael Jackson impersonator doing gigs at parties and such. He saved all of his money to buy really high quality replica MJ clothing and if there was a uniform free day you can bet he was dressed to the nines in his Thriller outfit or some other sequinned, tasseled, leather jacket, shiny shoes and of course, one white glove and a cool hat. He would spend recess and lunch every day practising his dancing. He did not care if people made fun of him for it and I think that his passion was so visible and so strong that no one did. Everyone thought it was neat and even people who were kind of mean were nice to this kid because he was just a super friendly guy who loved Michael Jackson and loved dancing so much and no one could even think it was weird or dumb because he was so passionate. It was actually really cool to see the respect he was given, because yes - it was strange, but he knew it was strange and didn't care. That was what he loved and everyone saw how much he loved it. I believe he is still doing MJ impersonator work to this day. I bring him up because James reminds me a lot of him, contagious joy because he is having a great time doing what he feels that he is meant to do. His raison d'être. Even if it's a little out of the ordinary it's hard for anyone to look at him and think it's silly because he exudes passion and love for what he does. MJ Kid was cool as heck and James is cool as heck. I love people who are passionate, whatever their passion is I love hearing about it, seeing it and just experiencing a bit of their joy for the thing they love so much. Feels good man.

Definitely agree, it's important to stick to what you want as a director. I did film production in college and during one of my group projects, the actors didn't want to wear wigs or style their hair for our medieval fantasy themed video, and I didn't push them on it. Then, during class, everyone in the class and the professor roasted us for the characters' hair not fitting the theme. I was so mad and kicked myself for not insisting on such an important detail. If you let things slide, people will notice.

as an autistic woman who had been masking for 17 years of her life, i'd made it a full time job to look down upon and feel embarrassed for people being themselves, because i genuinely thought that everyone, like me, was pretending to be someone they weren't, that everyone was "weird" and that it wasn't proper to let people see that. i was diagnosed last year and have come to appreciate people who are, unapologetically, just who they are, because i know that, for me, that's the single hardest thing in the world. it genuinely brought me to tears seeing james be so passionate about what he does and so unapologetically himself. i still have a lot to learn from people like him, the people i admire the most

I’m 17 too and autistic and we are so similar in this sense. It took me a long time to realise I need to love myself or who I am, and that masking stops not only ME from loving the real person inside, but also everyone else around me. I also got diagnosed really late at around 15. I was still in school at the time and it came with bullying, misunderstandings and troublesome teachers. But it’s a journey and some say it will never end, but I can say I am so so proud of everyone with SD for just being able to live their lives and wake up in the morning

You're 30, not dead! Your passions won't die until you do! Go for it before it really is too late! The only regrets people have, once on their death beds, are the chances they never took! You can always take baby steps into your passions, start small and go bigger! You only have one life; don't waste it thinking about trivial things like "because I'm 30"!!! My mother is getting her hip replaced and I'm sure she'd scoff at such an excuse. You're young! You're hip! You've still got potential in you! Follow your dreams and live your life to the fullest! I wish you all the luck in the world!!

Hi! Just wondering what audhd is? Anyway, 50 year olds go to uni to become primary school teachers and chemists and artists, 80 year olds start sewing for the first time and become pros. My point is, it’s never too late to invest in your interests and passions. You’ve got a whole life ahead of you, live how you want to and chase the things that bring you joy. 💛 I’m 24 and just started to buy myself big Lego sets, I hadn’t gotten a Lego set since I was maybe 11, but I just said screw it. It’s making me focus on a task and complete it, it’s making me happy - it doesn’t matter if it’s silly, unproductive and completely self indulgent. It gives me happiness and it makes me focus on a task. I like it, and I highly encourage you find your “Lego set” joy too. 🩷

Im gonna be real here: its almost been a full year since I last saw this video. KZbin very randomly suggested it to me again. And after rewatching the video, I did a bit of reflecting and realized just how much it actually changed my world view after that. I wish I could say I became more James-like, but honestly, I shouldn't say that. Because the James-like I became wasn't amything reflective of him as a person. What he managed to engrain onto me was "by yourself unapologetically." And, truly. I truly love that he carries that phrase. He may not say it exicitly, but by being himself unapologetically, he lets his actions speak for him. James, please, man, never change. Be the light the world needs.

thought this was going to be another kurtis classic, bashing some idiot on tiktok, but am pleasantly surprised to find that this is a really nice and positive video building up and promoting a talented small artist. i've been going through kind of a tough time and have cut out most social media because the content promoted to me is negative 90% of the time, but this video made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside to the point of tears. just seeing a guy with such passion and positivity wholeheartedly doing what he loves reminded me that there is good in this world. it's also incredibly nice when bigger creators like kurtis shed light on happy things like this instead of talking about some dumbass internet drama that has already been ripped to shreds by hundreds of other people. great video from kurtis, and james just gained another fan! :)

Imagine how freeing it would be if we all just were unapologetically ourselves and stopped worrying about what others think. James is so carefree and happy because he does just that. I’m trying to unlearn the whole internet “cringe” culture, and I think more people need to be like Kurtis and give these people a platform instead of tearing them down or making fun. I genuinely cried through this whole film. There’s such clear joy in everyone in this video, and that’s something that is often missing in our lives. I agree with Kurtis’ assessment at the end. James may not realise it, but he is clearly a bright light in a world that can often appear dark and scary. We need more people that approach their lives without fear and with the confidence that whatever they do it will make them happy. James has talent and has used it well, but the thing that had the biggest impact on me was simply that he spent so much of his time in joy, without judgement of himself or others, just a push for people to reach the potential that he can see in them.
