I think it has to do with 2 being one of the first games to support 3D Hardware Acceleration and the first one being released at a time where 3D was really new and because of that they didn't have 3D GPUs only 2D. So in order to work they rendered the game with only the CPU and depending on your CPU the game could either run well or really bad, if you search for NFS 2 in Software mode (CPU Rendering) you'll see its really similar to 1 (but still a bit better), this was a really common practice in the 90s and early 2000s when it came to games of you had a GPU you could game on 3D mode fully textured and all, but if you didn't have a 3D card you had the option of running the game in 2D Software Rendering.

In NFS 2 if you and your opponent hit your cars with each other at same time. The cars will loop for short while and if you try to remove it just don't. Instead press brake.

imo nfs1 is much better than nfs2. the physics in nfs1 may feel a bit stiff in their attempt at simulation, but they are at least logical and once you learn how to drive with them (particularly the braking points) youll have little issue. nfs2's physics are super janky and hard to control with weird unstable drifting everywhere and even when you "learn" this physics its still really hard to drive cleanly. the "simulation" physics are basically the same but you have to brake way earlier. that and the track design is really bad in nfs2, like they wanted to be more over-the-top and creative but had no idea what they were doing so you end up with a lot of dumb turns and jumps going directly into walls or tunnel ceilings. like they just threw in a lot of shit because "this will be cool" but didnt take into account how good it actually feels to drive on. nfs1's track design benefitted from being more grounded and designed more like actual roads or race courses instead of wacky fantasy rollercoasters, and also i think the point-to-point stages were really cool and unique for the series

Its interesting that kuru finds nfs 2 much better in handling than nfs SE. From my personal experience and from what i heard from others most dont like nfs 2 arcade physics, which are extremely janky. I think tracks has way too sudden elevation changes so all you do most of the time just rolling from getting airborne all the time. idk i much prefer nfs SE physics over nfs 2.

@@someguy8951 , it wasn't stiff, but rather more realistic. The game knew the oversteer and understeer conditions, while in NFS 2 you could drive 300 km/h in a tight corner around the block and never lose control.

Then NFS switched to more arcade-style driving which was OK, but I`ve replayed NFS 1 numerous times over again. The last time was probably in 2012.

8:54 The problem with NFS II is that you think this is NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 where you never lift throttle or brake lol. Try going on a slower pace, that's the key for suceeding on this game. Sim-driving techniques work like a charm in NFS II.

My first NFS was NFS 2, I played NFS 1 and 2 (again) recently and personally I liked 1 more. 2 is good but some tracks are simply ball breakers (looking at you Mystic Peaks). High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed are pretty much this gen's zenith.

NFS 1 was for me one of the best as being the most realistic of them all. I`ve replayed it probably 6-7 times - most recently in 2016. NFS 2 was a totally different game. Much more arcade. I bought it but later traded it for NFS 1 SE. For me it is one of the worst in the series. Unrealistic cars, handling of Mario Karts (you didn`t need brakes at all), unrealistic tracks (non of them were segmental), no police chases ... In my opinion not just a step back, but 10 steps back.
