Hi Ryley, that`s great! Your are a really kuksa carving master! Did you use fresh birch or dry (how many years drying). How do you prevent cracks? Cooking the finished kuksa in saltwater for 2 Hours? Best for you, Siegbusch

How do you determine how much to cut off of the outside once you have the bowl carved so you dont cut through? Probably a goofy question but this is only the 3rd video I've seen on how to carve one and I'd really like to try. Love the rest of your videos too btw.

Nice to see she let you out of the house! Jk lol 😜 Love the videos. Keep up the great work! You always make bushcraft look so easy; even carving a kuksa apparently. Curious what type of wood and what size gouge do you recommend for a beginner?
@KuskBushcraft
@KuskBushcraft 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! As far as starting off goes, there's lots of different tools and types of woods that will work well. A lot of it comes down to preference. I prefer a wide u-gouge for hollowing out the bowl part. The one I use is a 3/4" u-gouge I believe. For wood, green wood is far easier to work than dry wood. The only downside to green wood is it may split or crack during the drying process. The majority of my carvings are made from White Birch. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Nice job! I've got a question: How dry was the piece of wood before you started the kuksa? How much time had it been drying? I've tried to make a kuksa myself but the piece of wood I was using had dried too much and was cracked :( Can I use freshly cut wood? Please help! :)
@suecollins3246
@suecollins3246 2 жыл бұрын
Of course you can use freshly cut wood! It's much easier and furthermore, far softer on the muscles, joints, wrists and tendons. Not to neutron your tools. Just be careful - cracking can _still_ occur while you're working on the green piece. Check out KZbin channels on the subject.
