Your dad inspite of his having dementia have such a great disposition! There are some dementia patients who can be difficult to manage. I took in my mother to care for her as she aged with dementia. I had the skills and training to help her even during the difficult times. It takes a lot of love and patience. You and your brother are doing a great job with your father! My sister helped me when I needed breaks so having help for the caregiver is essential too! My mom is no longer with us but cherished those days of taking care of her❤!

My mom (89) suffered a stroke and she went to the hospital. We realized my dad (96) was worse off than mom. Between us 5 kids, we took turns coming to the house to put him to bed, dress him etc every other weekend. We all worked, so had International caregiver live at the house - they stayed 24/7 for 2 weeks, then we had the weekends. It was hard, but we managed to keep him at home till he passed. Best memories, listening to his war stories at 3am (cuz he couldn't sleep) but I had to get up for work in 3 hours. You just do it.

One video when grandpa fell off the high stool in their kitchen, it visually, emotionally hurt Danielle, to the extent of making her cry. It tremendously upset her when that happened. My friends mother paid $100 a month for caregiver insurance for 10 years . Once she needed 24 hour care after 1 year the caregiver was cut down to 16 hours. So the 3 Brothers and I did the graveyard shift. She eventually ended up going to an assisted living facility. The new doctors actually took away 7 medications that were conflicting and caused more confusion for her. She improved for a couple of years but was non verbal or responsive when she died at 94. It takes a lot of effort but it is worth knowing you did your best to keep her happy.

Hi Dan. I’m a Muslim mother daughter and nana. My entire adult life I’ve been planning to take care of my parents. My father passed away and now I’m praying that I get to look after my mother when she needs to be cared for. As Muslims we know that the keys to the doors of paradise is taking care of your parents. I’m very impressed and insured Dan. Thank you so much for countless reasons major one for taking CARE of your dad. Thank you thank you from the United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪 Much love and respect to you and your family ❤

The appeal for me is he reminds me of my own Dad who passed away in 2016. My Dad did not have dementia yet he shared the same polite verbiage “pardon me” when hard of hearing, concern for his family, a twinkle in his eye of days gone by. I just love him. He brings my own Dad back to life for me. Great job Dan and Mark, Danielle etc.

I have an elder Mom with short term memory issues.. The repeating over and over again...is exhausting and for me the most difficult part of the whole thing. Some days I am at my wits end. I started walking every morning for 30 minutes...helps me a lot. Have siblings but no help... I am at this 24/7. Anyway I watch daily because I feel we are a family dealing with this. Thank you!!

Wishing you the best. My ex husband and I took care of his mom for 11 months. After her husband passed. It wasn't easy. We had promises of help from the other 2 siblings. But we never saw them at all, during that time. Not until we were exhausted and couldn't go on . We were probably too young and inexperienced. With 2 young children. She unfortunately got rather dangerously violent. Grabbed the steering wheel one day, trying to drive the car off an embankment. Because she didn't want to go to the doctors. That was frightening. Hang in there if you can. There is also no shame in not being able to do it anymore. 🌻 It's emotionally draining on your own.

I'm from Brazil and I just love to see how you interact with your dad. It's awesome! My dad moved to our house at 86 and first signs of demencia started when he was 90. He lived with us until 97, when he passed away. I do not have any regrets! He lived with us for 11 years and I'm gratefull was able do have him untill the end. On his last years we had nurses, fisiotherapists and different facilities, but he was "at home". All the best to you!
