A meeting with the Oscar-winning screenwriter known for his eccentric and unusually complex stories such as Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He made his directing debut with the 2008 film Synecdoche, New York. At this year’s festival, Kaufman presented his latest work, Anomalisa, which he co-directed with animator Duke Johnson.
The KVIFF TALK will be hosted by Scott Feinberg, American journalist writing for The Hollywood Reporter.
Setkání s Oscarovým scenáristou, proslaveným výstředními a neobvykle komplexními příběhy V kůži Johna Malkoviche, Adaptace či Věčný svit neposkvrněné mysli. Režijně debutoval v roce 2008 snímkem Synekdocha, New York a letos na festivalu představil film Anomalisa, který spolurežíroval s animátorem Dukem Johnsonem.
KVIFF TALK moderoval americký novinář Scott Feinberg píšící pro The Hollywood Reporter.

I adore this man: he is brilliant, uncompromising, and a suffering soul. Every film of his tells a different story yet all are Kaufmanesque, a unique mix of Kafka, Beckett, Pirandello and Lenny Bruce. A true auteur of our times, a deeper and brainier version of Woody Allen (with all due respect to the latter).

He is a genius and one of my favorite writers of all time. You should also check out Louie ck's show horace and pete on his website if you haven't already. It's different so it might be hard at first for some people to get into but I guarantee if you watch all 10 episodes it will blow you away. It's one of the best dramas i've ever seen.

He's talking about writer's block. Just sitting there feeling like he's not getting anywhere. He mentioned just before (10:43) that his brain is still working on it in some subtler way so I guess he treats it as a vital part of the writing process to let things stew, rather than an indication that he's failing to be productive or whatever. It sounds like pretty good advice to me.

Wow, he's waaay busier than his credits show. It's interesting to hear all the projects that don't get made. I'd love there to be a platform where we can see all the pilots that weren't picked up. (like Noah Baumbach's "The Corrections" that HBO cut).

I love Human Nature and it's such bad form that the interviewer had never even heard of it. No one ever asks him questions about that or Confessions. Anyway, I'm still pissed that Frank or Francis never came to fruition with a cast that stacked. C'mon, A24, this is your moment.

I can't find any Kaufman interviews where the interviewer is even close to being on the same page as him. Not like he's above them or anything just they are always very media-y while Kaufman is very art-y.

The endless questions about process are totally exhausting. When you have the chance to speak with someone with a unique world view, the REAL point of interest is understanding their perspectives on LIFE, death, humanity, and NOT how many hours per day he sits at his desk.
@berkeskaya
@berkeskaya Жыл бұрын
I don't think he'd generally be in the mood or mental state to answer directly profound questions about life, death, humanity etc. on a random interview, especially when he has his art to do that. Seemingly mundane questions can prompt him to speak his mind profoundly in a more accurate framework than "What do you think about death?". But of course you need a sharp moderator and good questions for that, things that are curiously absent from Kaufman interviews.
