In this video I explained the following: What does kVp mean... Why kVp is important... How is kVp applied to the x-ray tube (how x-rays are created)... What is radiographic contrast... Types of contrast: low & high... Overexposed vs. Underexposed x-ray images...

When a radiography is too white, that means too much contracts right? If so , does that mean we then need to increase the kvp ? Sorry I get it mixed up
@AskTheRadTech
@AskTheRadTech 3 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you want a low contrast image (for example an abdomen or chest) but there were many shades of bright white and grey and no distinct difference in anatomy then yes, the kVp would need to be increased for more penetrability. However if you want a high contrast image (for example to see boney structures like the hand, foot, ankle etc) you need a fairly lower kVp but an small increase in density (mAs). Both factors do affect the image though. Sometimes both may need to be increased 🤷🏾‍♀️ Once you have good base value exposure chart you'll know which factor may need adjusting due to the size of the part being imaged. I hope this helped 😅

When the AEC doesn’t work, you have to double the MAs for a chest?
@AskTheRadTech
@AskTheRadTech Жыл бұрын
AEC is not the end all be all. If the exposure isn't right I just switch to fixed (normally inputted) exposure factors based on the patient's size.

@@AskTheRadTech yeah the pt was body habitus was thick and I chose 114/6.7 but it still came out grainy

@AskTheRadTech
@AskTheRadTech Жыл бұрын
@@fashnup2date depending on the tube output sometimes you find yourself having to use kVp around 120+ for significantly larger patients. 6.7 mAs already sounds like a lot. Try using the 15% rule in such a case. Increasing the kVp by 15% gives a 2x increase in exposure reaching the detector. Would help the graininess.

I DONT KNOW IF IM OVERTHINKING, BUT mAs, I DONT GET IT HOW DO I DETERMINE IT, SOME SAY 500 MA XS 1 SEC, BUT I THOGHT MILLI WAS 1000??? HELP PLEASE ANYONE
@AskTheRadTech
@AskTheRadTech 2 жыл бұрын
You might be overthinking it too much. mAs = mA x time in seconds. If you multiply 500mA x 1sec you'll get 500 mAs. Just make sure that you're multiplying in seconds. If your units are in milli seconds just convert them to seconds first to avoid any confusion. So 100ms for example is really 0.1 seconds.

If all x-rays pass it would be white image ma'am..
@AskTheRadTech
@AskTheRadTech 2 жыл бұрын
Would you like to explain your point further? X-rays cause a degree of darkening on the film based on mAs used. Objects of high physical density would appear white or brighter as it absorbs the x-rays so less photons will hit the image receptor. There'll only be a totally blank white film if there no exposure.

My baby had pelvic and hip x rays.. I only know that kv is 40,ma 400..and x ray image is very good.. How can i know mas is high or low for baby?..
@AskTheRadTech
@AskTheRadTech 3 жыл бұрын
You'll need to know what the time for the exposure was in order to know the mAs. Usually when the mA is higher it's a hopeful sign that the time should be very low which would mean that the overall exposure amount is reasonable

@AskTheRadTech
@AskTheRadTech 3 жыл бұрын
@@swagatikapanda7683 with a 400 mA, and the fact that it's a pelvis/hip on a baby, 400 mA might correlate to 4mAs. Which is pretty decent for a baby.(especially based on size)
