KX450 Does HARD ENDURO | KX450 Hard Enduro

So I tried a New Zealand hard enduro on my KX450 and man I have a lot of learning to do! the KX450 wasn't the best choice but she actually did alright for a fully stock MX bike, yes she over heated but she was designed for this sort of work.

I know how hard it is to ride one of those off-road. I’ve got a 21 and it sucks on trails. You did great on that thing. They’re much too stiff and don’t get any rear wheel traction. Great track bike though.

I ride a kx 450 in trails and never have a problem with traction only problem I have is having to stay in the gas steady to not stall the bike on a hill

was waiting to see it overheat. i have a 23 kx450x that i've been doing a lot of hard enduro style riding on and fighting the issue in tight technical terrain. I'm planning on ordering a high flow water pump, high pressure cap, and a fan kit to get me by until i can afford to buy a beta xtrainer

Hey man this was the mx version so even worse for this type of riding hahaha and I had no idea at the time how to even set a bike up for hard enduros! If I had 18inch rear proper tyre set up and changed my heating I believe this bike wouldn’t have over heated. I do have to say the kx450 engine is probably one of the most bullet proof engines I have pushed. It still was going like it was new after this event and no rebuild was necessary. The se engine ice as well I found that worked incredibly.

Just buy a tusk fan... put it on a switch. Works for mine at the dunes which is HARD riding.

Another cool video, I want to do this series next year but need to get a 2 stroke enduro the CRF450 will cook in that and no electric start makes it hard. Id suggest getting or fabricating a small radiator recovery tank so it can suck the coolant back in again once it cools. I built one for my 450 and it works great because if you haven't got one and you boil once it will boil faster the next time. The clutch adds a lot of heat so as someone said below gear it down a lot so you can keep off the clutch.

@@LosSquid I’m wanting to go with KTM 2018 or newer 250 or 300 enduro models specifically because the have the counter balance shaft to reduce vibration and 2 strokes generate less heat. Just for tight single track stuff and hard enduro. You have to spend big $$ on suspension to make them any good for high speed GNCC style riding so will keep my 2008 CRF450 for that and occasional mx day my bike has had full RG3 revalve front and rear and rear linkage.

I gave up my 09 kx450f for a 2019 yz250x 2stroke and I've never looked back! The kx was sooo heavy and tired me out in 6 hours of riding mountain woods in colorado! The yz is light and way better suited for this type of riding your doing! On the track I would rather ride the kx450f any day! Use the right tool for the right job!!!

Luke, what gearing are you using? It sounds like you are running too tall gearing for that snotty stuff. The tune sounds okay, although I would keep it as rich as possible. Doesn't sound like flame-outs are an issue.

Going slow on any 4 stroke, struggling to get up hills is going to kill it. That 450 has over 50HP, point and shoot it climbs anything.

the 2 strokes will be always better not for the smoother power but because a 2strokes doesn't turn off even at 3-4hundred rpm (that's why the snowmobiles are 2strokes only) so it continue to have grip in this situations while 4strokes struggle. and it's far better on the weight side also.

Did you have a radiator fan? I have had a real challenge keeping enough air moving without one. Looks like at times you did too. I blew up a couple engines doing that exact thing.

Hey man nope didn't run a fan on this one and engine never blew up at all. I ran coolant called engine ice and put a 1.8 radiator cap on this makes a huge difference I should have definitely put a fan and not run gummy tires as thats half the issue I had no traction anywhere.

Hey man honestly depends how heavy you are and your riding style. I didn’t mind the 450 I would have rather the Xc version for trail riding though. The kx450 is pretty bulletproof mate this thing got smashed and overheated so many times and still just kept going. You could change the gearing for the kx450 to suit trail riding a bit more. The FC I don’t really know sorry man I have never ridden one to compare

What I do know is that the KX450 doesn’t come with any hr meter which sucks but it does look very clean, the FC450 has 68 hours up on the hour meter, I am not sure if you think that’s alot of hours or not too bad?
