Sure it rips. Does it lug, overheat, or stall when in technical terrain? Does it have a hydraulic clutch? How is the clutch actuation when you need to slip it? Will it restart easily when hot? What does it weigh? Is there a warranty? Where is it legal to ride? Your review left a lot on the table. Please consider including more information.

I got the 24 KX 450 for woods/scrambler riding, my dealer didn’t have an x model, but they are so similar I didn’t care, it’s a beast, just going to gear it down a little add some protection and it’s good to go

It's good to see Kawi having somewhat of an off-road version of their track bike like Honda. I still ride my old 250x and has been a fun and reliable bike for off-roading. I'm guessing the reliability of this Kawi is pretty good, too. Thanks for the review, always nice to see more options out there. 👍

Remember when manufactures took the time and effort to make real off road bikes? Now they take bikes that are to fast for most guys to ride a groomed MX track on, toss a 18" rear wheel and kickstand on it and call it an off road bike. KDX's used to have purpose built frames, motors, tanks, tool bags, axle pulls, quick chain adjusters, and on and on. If you are blasting dez on SoCal, fine, it will work. But if you want a real TRAIL bike for riding mountain single track this is not it and why you see so few of them on WA, OR, ID etc trails. The Japanese used to OWN this segment. Used to go off road riding or racing and it was 80% XRs. You know, with forgiving steel frames, off road tuned and designed motors and suspension etc. Can you imagine how good a XR400 (or KDX in this case) would be today if it underwent continuations refinement and design?

Which bike from the Japanese would you like to bring back if you could? You can't even buy a new WR in California now because of the new EPA restrictions. Things are crazy out west.

@@DirtBikeMagazine Well crazy in the SW, in Washington you can plate a KX500. Idaho too. As for which bike? All of them. XR, KDX, IT... etc. NOT based on aluminum frame 65hp MX bikes.

I agree there's a hole in the kawasaki lineup for a real enduro type bike, but that doesn't mean there's no place for these types of bikes to exist. These bikes make some sense for xc racers who are riding less tight trails in race scenarios.

@@Motosportz seems like still selling 450xc bikes a bit short, they are good in the woods, just not on techy singletrack and slow speed things. I do wish they made a bike better suited for tight tech, I may consider selling mine to buy that if they released it.

Gotta disagree with Tilley about the handgaurds. That is a personal thing. Some guys want wrap around, some want flag style, etc. They will add what they want. What a $10K bike SHOULD come with is a skid plate, so you at least get it home with something to protect your cases and frame. Skid plate should be #1 and come with a bike.

Honestly, if the head, ECU and transmission are the same as the MX model, it’s silly to buy the X since you’re gonna end up buying hand guards/skid plate and probably re-valving the bike anyway right? I agree though, that kickstand is archaic and just unpleasant to look at. Sooooo, 18” rear wheel? That’s it? That’s the biggest selling point.

Tilly…..looks like your riding that thing in someone’s backyard property. You guys should have went out to Johnson Valley and open that green monster up. Hate to say it, but Kawy lost its mind not staying in the off road/desert stuff like in the days of Destry Abbott. Trying to come out now with some kind of off-road version is way too late in the game……the Orange and Husk crew’s are literally killing it in every aspect, be it Motocross, Enduro and off-road. I think the 2024 Yamaha WR450F is a lot better bike for my money and for what I need and want. It has a larger gas tank, wide ratio transmission, radiator fan, headlight , tail light, speedometer and odometer all for less money and a 30 day warranty.

Hi, Im 13 years old, i am 5.5, 5.6 tall and i weight Around 63 kg, i have experience in atvs, i can handle my dads suzuki ltz 400 and my cousins Polaris trail blazer 330 i can speed on them and have good control, so should i go for the bikes Everyone say like a Klx 140 or go for another thing like 125 2t or 250 4t? i really like dirt bikes i loved them since i was a little kid but never got the opportunity to have one or drive one and i really want now. Im gonna buy it used, is Between 2k and 3k a good price?

Start small and work your way up, it'll be less of a learning curve coming from quads, and you can learn the proper technique and how to get more out of a bike if you are on something manageable. Its too bad there isn't much in between the KLX140 and the big bikes. Maybe one of the 230's.

KTM MSRP is $950 more than the MSRP of the kawi. After a big tank and handguards the price difference is negligible.
