Chavan helped shape Pawar's early political career, but Pawar later broke away from Congress, undermining Chavan's vision and creating fractures in the Maratha community. This betrayal is seen as the beginning of a pattern: Pawar using people for his benefit and then abandoning them when it suited his ambitions. Pawar has also been criticized for using **caste-based politics** to maintain power. While he supported the demand for Maratha reservation, he failed to take concrete steps to resolve it, preferring to keep it an unresolved issue. He has been accused of encouraging protests only when he was out of power, but not taking real action when he was in office. This strategy has left young Marathas frustrated, as their concerns were used as political tools rather than genuinely addressed. Pawar’s influence has also been tied to **weakening rival Maratha leaders**. The division within the **Munde family** after Gopinath Munde’s death is often attributed to Pawar’s intervention. Munde, an influential OBC leader, was reportedly pitted against factionalism, weakening his leadership. Similarly, Pawar’s recruitment of leaders like **Narayan Rane** and **Chhagan Bhujbal** to the NCP is seen as an attempt to weaken opposition parties, further splintering the political unity of Maharashtra. Pawar’s handling of the **1993 Mumbai bomb blasts** incident added to his controversial image. Initially, he reported that the blasts affected Hindu-majority areas, but later, in an apparent effort at appeasement, he falsely claimed that one of the blasts occurred in a Muslim area. This manipulation of facts for political advantage angered many, particularly among the young Marathas, who saw this as a tactic to balance communal tensions rather than addressing the truth. Another divisive aspect of Pawar’s legacy is his **support for the Sambhaji Brigade**, a group that challenged the work of respected historians like Babasaheb Purandare, who dedicated his life to preserving the history of Shivaji Maharaj. Many believe that by supporting such groups, Pawar is rewriting history to suit his political agenda, which has distanced Marathas from their shared heritage and values. Pawar’s focus on **Baramati** over the rest of Maharashtra has also drawn criticism. While Baramati, his home constituency, developed significantly, many parts of the state were left behind. Young Marathas see this as a clear example of Pawar prioritizing his own power base over the larger needs of the state. In addition to these political strategies, Sharad Pawar faces serious corruption allegations: 1. **Adarsh Housing Society Scam**: Though not directly involved, Pawar’s family’s connection to the Adarsh Housing scam, where land meant for war veterans was allegedly misused, has raised questions about his influence in such dealings. 2. **Control of Sugar Industry**: Pawar has been accused of using his political power to control the **sugar cooperative industry** in Maharashtra, with critics arguing that these sugar mills funded his political career and helped consolidate his influence. 3. **Money Laundering**: Pawar and his family have been linked to **money laundering** allegations in relation to their business dealings, particularly in sugar and real estate. These accusations raise concerns about his political integrity and transparency. 4. **Crony Capitalism**: Pawar has been accused of promoting **crony capitalism**-using his political influence to enrich his family and close associates at the expense of the public. His dominance over sectors like agriculture and sugar production is seen as a way to maintain this system. 5. **Opposition to Anti-Corruption Reforms**: Pawar has also been accused of blocking or opposing anti-corruption reforms, leading many to believe that he is more interested in protecting his own political and financial interests than in improving governance. 6. **Land Deals and State Contracts**: Allegations of Pawar’s involvement in **land deals and state contracts** suggest that his influence was used for personal gain, benefiting his associates and business partners rather than the general public. Ashish Shelar is a very inteligent politician and I was looking him as a idol. But you also asked him a good question about Mahim Constituency. He has made a monopoly in the Mahim Area. Only promotes his favourable choukadi. And not interested in giving post to other people. I became a victim and there are many. But a small karyakarta can not make tussle with him. Still I wish him a suçessfull future as he is inteligent, outspoken and good orator. He is also lucky that he has Assisted by a able Jeetendra Raut who is Secretary of Mumbai BJP at present!
