Duck Banding in Search of the Black Duck

Watch as a team of biologists corral ducks in order to band them. This research goes a long way in determining flight patterns, longevity, and what impact hunting has on duck populations. The black duck is the gold trophy in this exercise!

why not band them at the pond and release there instead of having to drag them to another location to band them?

Looks like an overcast day and they probably don’t want any of their documentation to get ruined if it rained since the initial write up for the database is done with pen and paper. That’s my guess. Also, they’ve got kids there so it might have been similar to a DU green wing type event. Hard to keep kids interested in the cold and the rain.
