We believe all hockey programs - from professionals to youth organizations - should provide a safe, positive and inclusive environment for players and families regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, disability, sexual orientation and socio-economic status." So the part I really want to highlight is the "should provide a safe, positive and inclusive environment for players and families" Yes the campaign and slogan is primarily thought towards Racism/Gender/Sexuality, the big three, but in general it just aims on bringing safety. So yeah, we can't campaign that we want Hockey For Everyone, which includes safety for players of every background, if we tolerate these things happening in our league. In saying that if the league wants to be a place where everyone can be safe and play, then it needs to be the league that pushes on punishing those heinous acts.

My Godfather is a retired attorney. He was involved in multi million dollar settlement cases for a few clients. Money is an afterthought, at the end of the day it does not fix people who are wronged . His clients were physically ruined but I can’t imagine being mentally scourged for life. I’ve been a diehard ‘Hawks fan from the early ‘90s, and this is so heartbreaking. Kyle Beach is a hero to me, as is Theoren Fleury. I hope they get to speak to each other on these matters and help each other through it. I agree that both Quenneville and Cheveldayoff should both resign, and that none of the guys in attendance of that disastrous meeting should ever get a job in the NHL again. Even if they decided that McDonough should handle it, everyone in that room should’ve seen Kyle, talked to him and made sure his interests were taken care of. And they all had the opportunity. All of them knew that Aldrich had done something wrong and still took part of the celebrations that summer. It doesn’t seem like any of those guys felt that was awkward or sickening. To their credit, I have to say that the Wirtz family’s openness and seemingly honest attempt at figuring out what really happened this year is commendable, albeit way too late. They wanted a real investigation without interference from the team, and although the case is sickening and horrific, I also understand their hesitation to react to the matter until the investigation was fully concluded. I think the impression made by both Rocky and Danny during the presentation of the Jenner & Block report showed that these guys didn’t know anything, and they felt sincere and honestly troubled during the presentation. I have to say that the way they handled this, although way too late, shows that the Wirtz family eventually made the right decision, and I’ll wait for the settlements before passing final judgment. But I’ve also considered switching over to the Kraken as my favorite team this summer/autumn, after I became aware of the allegations. I guess I’ll see what happens, and if I think the settlements are fair.

While being insulted with racial slurs is never acceptable, sexual assault is worse. The prevelant culture in hockey needs to change PERIOD. Neither form of abuse is acceptable. I believe the term you were struggling to convey was hypocritical. That coach also needs to be taken to task for the racial slurs (I believe he was), but sexual assault is a crime punishable by jail time if the perpetrator is convicted. Where as racial slurs while abhorrent are not a punishable statue under Canadian law as of yet . They probably should be !!

Kyle Beach was/is an exceptionally strong & capable man who could have easily discarded his motivation for career and profit by doing the right thing and snapping the limbs of Aldrich. All of this is really a distraction from the real motivations at hand, and these are motivations certainly not serving the real justice that’s required. I’ve had experiences with Brent Sopel in my playing career and officiating career with him as a coach, and he’s always been mean. Hearing that he went out of his way to speak up for Beach has really made me change the way I look at him. I know I’ll cross paths with him again some day and I’ll be sure to tell him how his coming forward has had a profound impact on making the game of hockey and the hockey world itself better. I myself have dealt with a coach doing something inappropriate, but nowhere close to the level to what Beach had to endure. It is sickening that there are men out there who manipulate young adults to try and feel like they are powerful men. There has to be a stop to it across the board. I hope that Beach can live the best life he can from here. I hope he knows there are so many people who have his back and the back of anyone else who has gone through a situation like this.

Honestly, how the Blackhawks organization handled this isn't really even that shocking. For so long victims of sexual assault have been silenced, ostracized and ridiculed by default. The sexual predators, especially if they are older authority figures, are protected. Women have known this for a very long time. Most rapes go unreported. There is little doubt there are many similar still untold stories in the hockey world. However in the last 11 years there has been some progress. The MeToo movement and all have had a positive impact. There's a good chance that this would have been handled differently if it happened today. My takeaway is that this is a positive day for hockey. Truth is finally out. Perhaps others will follow.

The victim, Kyle Beach, did and does not have a legal obligation to report the assault to the police. There are several personal reasons why a victim may choose not to file an official report to. Q and Chev have to go this story made me sick listening to the pain in Kyle’s voice. He’s not wrong about Donald Fher failed him when it’s his job to protect the players he represents. It’s disgusting what my team I watched growing up as a kid did to this young man and the 16 year old who their lack of actions hurt.

So why the hell didn't he call the authorities - the Chicago police department? he was a legal adult - a 20-year-old - yet people are treating this situation like he was 14 at the time... It's terrible what happened to him but he needed to go to the police - the Blackhawks brass couldn't because the brass wasn't the victim .. Look, I'm a criminal law paralegal right here in Illinois - I know how criminal law works in this state and like I pointed out only Beach could press charges. I mean what the hell were the Hawks brass supposed to do anyway? you can't contact authorities without Kyle Beach's blessing, it makes no sense to launch an internal investigation because Alderich's contract was set to expire in a week, you cant fire him because if you do he will sue you claiming discrimination against his sexuality - in short for being gay.... So what were the Hawks brass supposed to do??? Of course tons of good hockey minds lost their jobs, because why?? because Kyle Beach refused to go to the authorities and press sexual assault charges against Alderich...

The real injustice is that this is public information only after 11 years after it had happened and Aldrich continued to work in hockey for additional two years (even with KIDS!!!), what an absolute disgrace. Beach surely would’ve been a decent NHL player had this not happened. Aldrich should spend rest of his life in prison.

Seeing his reaction when asked about the young teen in Michigan was heartbreaking. It was not your fault Kyle, I hope one day you can find peace that you truly did the right thing then and now. The NHL should really hire Kyle as a member of the Player Assistance Program and build an advocacy group. It can be hard for anyone to reach out for help, but having someone as brave as Kyle available to them might make it easier.

I’m the same age as Kyle and this shit made me cry. The organization failed him, society failed him. Anyone who know who didn’t take action in the organization, other teams, hockey world, NHL front office and NHLPA need to be relieved of their duties and named. Players that participated in the bullying need to have their contracts terminated regardless of superstar status and named. Its time to clean house and remove the guilty. This is about being human.

Why do I somehow not believe this story? No tears fake cry, a player who didn't have a successful NHL career. A guy who fought all through junior hockey gets sexually assaulted by another man? Did he do sexual favors for this guy to get something from the organization and then waited ten years once his career was over? Was Kyle Beach gay and his relationship failed. I don't buy this shit.
