Ok, I admit it. I am one of the ones that did not like Kyle Dubas. Was calling him Dumbass and thought he did not have the stuff to do the job. "Too Young". I was wrong. Period. He has certainly proven himself more than capable of leading the Leafs in the right direction. I have been a solid Leaf fan for over 50 years and never have I been more hopeful than now, that the Leafs really have a shot of making it to the Stanley Cup. Breeding your players from within and getting them to accept the style of play you want is far from being stupid. Letting the players know that if you are loyal to the 'Team" and stick with the system that is given to you, you most likely if not certainly will have a Stanley Cup to place in your portfolio. The upper management seems committed to putting together a team that will win a Stanley Cup, and will continue to be a winning team, not just for a year but for a long period of time. So I say back off for a bit and lets support what is happening with the Leafs, and let the people who have been hired to make the Leafs a contender do their job. Go Leafs Go.

People ask how the Dubas philosophy differs from the Lamoriello philosophy and all semantics and cliches aside, we'll soon begin to see what he has gleaned from his apprenticeship and what proprietary philosophies Dubas will bring to the organization. The analytics/eyeballs garbage is a non-starter. It's like going to a 3D movie and being asked if you want the glasses with the red lens or the blue lens because you cant have both. Dubas is a hockey fanatic and former scout who also happens to have a keen eye for the science of sports analytics, and he knows how to marry the two to produce the best result. Looking forward to seeing what augmentations he introduces to the brand. He talks about "uncovering inefficiencies" as a means of leveraging their obviously vast resources and it's that sort of stuff that the cap doesn't impact that could produce a championship team. And now the big Q: Does Ron Francis have a spot in all this? How about Joe Nieuwendyk?

Look at the remaining four teams in this year's playoffs and all of them have tremendous speed, skill, and play two-way hockey. The Leafs have the skill and some speed but definitely need to improve their possession game so hopefully Dubas will find the right guys to keep the team moving in the right direction.

I am a young boss that at the time I was hired I had people under me that were twice my age. You can be young, successful and get people on board. To be the young leader you need to motivate, lead by example and get people to buy in by giving respect to help earn it. Once respect is earned then leading becomes easier. Kyle can be successful, he just needs to find the way to help put his plan in place.

But this is a huge summer to see how exactly he will run this team . As a fan I’m excited to see

The true excitement will be the juggling between analytics and salary cap. It going to be interesting to watch the new salary situation between the big three of Matthews Marner and Nylander get prioritized with Ufa signings of JVR Bozak and Komorov not to forget the others like polak and Moore also. Let's get younger in nhl standards which means let's get analytical.

@Joseph-lj4sp6 жыл бұрын
As a hockey fan I have mixed feelings about the signing. I'm happy for there to be new blood in the system but at the same time I feel like if it doesn't work out for whatever reason people will use it as reasoning for hiring more "experienced hockey minds" and I feel like the last thing the NHL needs is more Bergervins and Chiarellis making the rounds and ruining teams. I also feel like part of this is the Brad Stevens affect where people are just hoping to catch a little bit of the magic the Celtics did with him.
@almVancouver6 жыл бұрын
I think Dubas is well qualified. Shanahan saw to that. There was/is a plan...we all know the name it's given. Everything's right in Leafland. The Big Questions in no particular order 1. Contracts contracts contracts... 2. How to shore up the D? 3. How to shore up the C? 4. When to make a big splash in the trade/free agent market? 5. Balance between Size, skill and grit? 6. How to stay competitive in the league while developing? 7. Your questions...I've listed some generalizations/platitudes. Feel free to comment with your insights.

Josh In terms of ticket revenue, Toronto is number 1 ($213m), Chicago is number 2 ($203m). In terms of TV Rights, the Leafs package is apparently 40m higher then the next two which are Montreal and Philly (it all gets shared by the league of course). The Hockey Guy did an fairly straightforward estimate of ticket revenue as couple of days ago. Re concessions, Leafs are very high there as well but no numbers are available publicly. Leaf fans continue to believe that "this latest guy" is the answer to their woeful team. First Babcock was "the answer", then Shanny was "the answer", then Lou was "the answer", then Austin Nostrils was "the answer" and then Marner was "the answer", then Marleau was "the answer" and now Leaf fans think some no-name wannbe GM is "the answer". Don't Leafs fans ever get tired of being strung along like donkeys chasing a carrot?
@Robert-Peterson6 жыл бұрын
Whatever...you'll be on "year two" of your rebuld for the next 51 years. The Jets are in the Conference final...THAT is how you make a contender, not by continually rolling out a new "answer to your prayers" every few months. And you are no closer to being a "championship-calibre team" than you were 3 years ago....when you purposefully tanked to reach the "goal" of being in last place. And in last place delusional Leafs fans saw that as something to be proud of. As I said...51 years of being strung along like donkeys chasing a carrot. And with every single "announcement" Leaf fans make excuse after excuse as to why "this is gonna change things"...it's all part of the "Shanaplan". Stop making me laugh.
