Kyle was a decent QB. The problem is is that he did not improve very much if at all and he never came off being a one read quarterback. It’s just the facts and I’m sure he’ll do just fine at Syracuse but he wasn’t going to elevate Ohio State at all. His father also meddled way too much for an elite program like that.

Always nice to hear what the reality of the situation is directly from the people involved. There was so much noise about Kyle and all it was is him doing what’s best for him regardless of what people think. And an opportunity to play for someone he’s known since he was a kid. I wish I hadn't shown so much interest in 2023 Buckeyes, in the end, except that we were top 5 all season, only running out of Talent on the wrong Game. of more than 45 Games these last 3 years we were cheated by a first time ever espionage and rigging of the games and betting lines. It was a good move for both parties. If Kyle didn’t want to stay and compete, that was his choice. You should always compete and embrace it. Kyle did not.

I agree it was good for both parties, but I don't agree McCord should have stayed. We can't pretend it'd be unusual for a QB at an elite program to be assured that they'd be the starter going into their final year of eligibility-that obviously happens all the time, and the fact that OSU wasn't willing to say that was a good sign they weren't wild about McCord. So, with only one year of eligibility remaining, McCord could ... jeopardize millions of dollars-or maybe even any shot at a NFL career-and stay ... or go to a team that's assembling great talent and is wild about him. The problem with the "stay and compete" mantra is (1) it's insane, and (2) it assumes that the coach will pick the best quarterback based on their little preseason comp. But look at how many times we've seen a backup take over-sometimes early after a season has started-and then stayed in the job/proven to be the better QB for the team. Who the coach thinks "won" a preseason competition isn't always the best QB. So, even if you think-even if you *know*-you're the best QB on the roster, you have to hope that the coach-and, again, in this care, a coach who you know isn't wild about you-picks the right way. If not, maybe say goodbye to your NFL career. Yeah, McCord was right to leave.

As to the portal and NIL money Kyle seems to be saying there is big gap between what the Ohio States and the Alabamas of the world offer/demand of players and the rest of college football, say Syracuse. Second, one can assume OSU did not offer Kyle any NIL money to stay and indicated it was going to get a transfer QB. If Kyle stayed that would be 5 QBs. Kyle did compete and started all 12 games. OSU said not good enough. After going 11-1 he wants to make sure he is on field playing, not siting the bench.

Kyle was already making 500k apparently. Just no guarantees to start at Ohio State unless your Justin Fields or CJ Stroud level. I mean even CJ got it rough at the beginning. It's tough to be a QB at Ohio State and I totally understand if you don't want to deal with that and decide to leave. Kyle was placed into a tough spot with an extreme amount of pressure on him to #1 fill the shoes of a QB like CJ Stroud, and 2# the pressure to beat Michigan after they had lost the previous 2 years. None of those things were his fault, but he had to deal with it, and it was a lot. I think he handled it all pretty good, but needed more time to develop that wasnt available as the starter for the Buckeyes. Hopefully playing for Syracuse helps him get better without all the pressure

Let's stop making excuses for this players. They understand the pressures when going to these schools to play football. Especially QB. Also, just watch some of the coaches film from the Michigan game. McCord just wasn't good enough, at all. It happens though, no ill will to him. He was over ranked coming out of high school and everyone sees that. That is fine, he was throwing to Marv, obviously that will make any QB in high school look good.

Kyle was ok at OSU, the problem was he never progress into a really good thrower. Not very accurate at times. He always look scared in the pocket not confident and it showed on the field. Glad he left and will better himself next season.

That interview with Kyle was impressive, and I wish him well at his new school. As a Buckeye fan, it was the Buckeye coaching staff that failed to further develop Kyle, he used what he had and did well. For me, he was evidence that OSU's "developed here" mantra was nothing but a slogan. They should corrected many of the shortfalls observed in Kyle's mechanics from game one thru game twelve, yet they were still evident. Again, I don't put that on Kyle, but instead the Ryan Day and Cory Dennison (QB Coach).

As a buckeye, I wish nothing but the best for mccord. Although I wasn't overly impressed with his play (after 10 years of top tier level qbs like fields, stroud, cardale, Haskins and Barrett, it's hard to satisfy the folk in columbus) but he did well enough for us and we were a couple choice plays from beating michigan and being in the playoff. Alot of buckeye fans are irrational. Alot of them called for his head, which was wrong. But like he said, at the end of the day the university made a business decision and in that, he had to do what was best for him. Best of luck to you Kyle. I look forward to watching you play at Syracuse and seeing how your furture plays out. Hell I may even go to the OU bobcats game since that's my local team. You'll always be a buckeye in my eyes.

We understand some in Buckeye Nation expect our players to be perfect but forget there has only been one Human that was ever perfect. And many in Buckeye Nation are negative to a player for one or two bad plays he did but forget the hundreds of good and the sad thing is most of these people never played high school football nor college or non at all. they should know that those players that start on Saturdays are elite and play against elite, the best of the best and things happen fast in a game and who you are surrounded by and how they play also affects the quarterback performance as well as the coaches that call the plays and schemes. He obviously is a good quarterback. He's playing at the highest level he can right now and did arguably a bit better than ok. Here's my problem, he didn't finish what he started. He let let down a group of other kids in a very large way due to his selfishness. I fully support him or anyone looking out for themselves. The portal likely was the best choice for him. It was completely selfish. He should have finished the season. Instead, he said to his team that he is more important than they are and left them high and dry. It's hard not to think his feelings were hurt, which is understandable, and he played the "I'll show you card". I'd be surprised if he doesn't grow to regret his decision of when he left.

Kyle Mccord is a great qb. Its just one of those situations where a player isn’t in the right system. I feel like if he was at any other school with a different offensive scheme he would thrive. When being a qb at ohio state you need to he able to run on broken plays.

"Syracuse level" means something different with Fran Brown coaching. It's amazing to me that people who call themselves college football fans don't seem familiar with anything that happened before the past 15-20 years. Go look at Syracuse football's record between 1956 and 1967. Look at the era between 1987 and 2001. They won 10 games as recently as 2018. Syracuse football has been good before, and they can be good again.

He just didn't elevate his play at OSU, he never got any better. The OHIO STATE O-Line wasn't good enough to give him time and let's be honest he's a pocket QB who was on a gotta move around and make plays on the fly kinda team. It truly is a win win for everyone that He's moved on.....

Other than Marvin Harrison Jr he’s actually going to have more weapons around him in Syracuse than he had at OSU. The one issue may be Syracuse still needs to add a couple more guys on the offensive line. If we get the O-line shored up we’ll be able to have the chance to beat anyone.

Kyle was a decent QB. The problem is is that he did not improve very much if at all and he never came off being a one read quarterback. It’s just the facts and I’m sure he’ll do just fine at Syracuse but he wasn’t going to elevate Ohio State at all.
