Joan Jett on Her All Acoustic Album, Making Light of Day with Michael J Fox, & Upcoming Tour with Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and Poison
Joan Jett catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about Changeup, her very first acoustic album that finds classics and deep cuts stripped down to their roots. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend takes us into what prompted the project, turning down MTV when they asked her to do the first Unplugged, how songs like Cherry Bomb and Victim of Circumstance changed with the new set, and how the recent 40th anniversaries of Bad Reputation and I Love Rock and Roll influenced her song choices. Jett also takes us back making 1987’s Light of Day with Michael J. Fox, recording a tribute to the late Mia Zapata in the band Evil Stig, wanting to do a second volume of acoustic songs, and if she’d consider a record of new songs in this style. Joan also previews the upcoming summer tour with Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and Poison, tells us how she got her trademark scream from Marc Boland, and the details on her new guitar with Epiphone.

Sincerely, Suzanne, seems to be 20 years younger...it seems that she was 43 years old ..she needed to fake to fake younger voice to rejuvenate even younger...ha ha....Greetings from Argentina

God she is still just so beautiful. I love her so much, and I've idolized her sound since I was a child. My mother actually had a very long conversation with her back in the '80s, and she is an incredibly warm and delightful person.

I appreciate Kyle mentioning Joan's "scream/howl" because he is absolutely right about that being a highlight of her catalog. I really feel that Joan is at her best when she is most raw and primal, and that howl is basically the manifestation of that primal energy. It makes me think of her song "Long Time", where she sings "You can always wake the beast in me, RRRAWWWR", literally verbalizing an animal's roar in the lyrics. That's the kind of stuff I consider pure Joanness.

Great to hear Joans voice on Changeup without having to shout over the drums and band. She has a great voice when she's allowed to sing. One of a kind.

Kenny says that Joan's rock n' roll is like O-negative blood so much, that it's making me wonder if Joan actually is O-negative blood-type! Another thing I wonder about is that ring on her ring-finger here. That's not like her to wear a ring on that finger. She hasn't done that in over a decade! I wish she was asked if there was some reason for it (other than pretty ring). But, she most likely wouldn't say either way. Still, celebrities get asked about their rings all the time, and I'm definitely curious!

You know what the ring means... but she will never tell. She is protective of her private life.

@@SuzanneNuttall But she wasn't wearing it in her very next interview done a few days later. I suppose she could have taken it off to stop speculation, but that didn't hinder her from wearing a ring in the past, so... I'm still not sure about it. In fact, that might have been her whole reason for wearing it that day- just to make us think... After all, she knows people will talk, and she loves makin 'em wonder!

I tend to have a romantic crush on girls like Joan Jett. She’s really beautiful with a strong personality. I want to be with a girl like her. I just have a romantic attraction to gothic/alternative girls. I can’t help but detect something warm and meaningful in them.
