For over a hundred years, the Chicago Cubs were synonymous with one thing: losing.
But in 2016 they flipped the script, winning their first World Series since Teddy Roosevelt was in the White House. It was a moment a century in the making, but it wouldn’t have been possible without one player.
A player who, just weeks before, would have been the last person anyone would have expected to even appear on the field, let alone play the hero.
This is the story of how Kyle Schwarber returned from the most devastating injury of his career, and propelled the Cubs to one of the most legendary championships in baseball history.

The 2016 World Series will always go down as my favorite. I’m a diehard orioles fan. But I’m a baseball fan first and foremost. And though I love both teams that played (my grandfathers team is Cleveland, and ryne sandberg was one of my favorites growing up) I was rooting for Chicago the whole way. The drama of game 7 is exactly why this sport is the greatest. There’s so many potential outcomes, and it makes for great moments. And digging deeper into kyles journey that year just makes the 2016 World Series just that much more precious and memorable. Cos I love this game! “It’s hard not to be romantic about baseball.”

I randomly stopped on espn and watched the power of this kid who played for Indiana. He had a cool last name. But most importantly as a little league coach he resembled my son in batting stance, catcher, speed and even body and looks. Got excited when Cubbies selected him in the draft. Saw his first game vs Cincinnati. Made it to Wrigley with my son on Schwarber’s first game. Had them custom made Cubs Schwarber game jersey made for my son that day (first one ever because the guy didn’t even know who he was). But I knew that swing would be special. I had dreams my son could be the next Schwarber but a damn high school football injury ruined our dreams. 7 titanium screws and a plate to repair his ankle. I was so upset when Schwarber got traded. I almost threw away all my Cubs gear. Well we both live through Schwarber now and will always support him. I love watching him play because I see my son in him too. Except for the strike outs. My son had a better eye…lol. Keep hitting them far Mr. Schwarber because you are very special in more ways than one. Btw thank you for bringing a World Series to Chicago. That I will never forget!

@14:59 Ozuna's bomb on Kershaw in the 2020 NLCS. After they had been playing those annoying Hankook Tire (or whatever) commercials non-stop during that series... starring Clayton Kershaw. You know the ones, "What's he gonna chase? A slider? Nahh. A changeup? etc..." And then immediately after that, people started posting the commercial and spliced in the Ozuna bomb. God those were great. Just splicing in after Kershaw goes something like "Oh... I've got it...", and then he winds up and starts his throw... and then just before he's supposed to strike the dude out in the commercial they just cut to that bomb -"THAT IS A BLAST! WAAAAY OUTTA HERE!!". Man that was great.

Kyle Schwarber is just a man you WANT on your team. He has the attitude that is worth diamonds. How many players would be helping the front office and scouts while recovering from injury? That's next level dedication. The Philadelphia Phillies found that out the last 2 years as well. He knows what he is: A "3 outcomes" hitter. He hits for power, gets on base, and goes nuts in the post season. What more do ya want? Not everyone can be Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, or Mike Trout. Just know you've got a Joey Gallo or Adam Dunn type on the team, and use them!

I just realized Ben Zobrist won a World Series with the Kansas City Royals and then the next season with the Chicago Cubs. I know there's plenty of players with multiple WS wins on multiple teams but Zobrist def takes the cake due to being apart of a team that ended a 30 year drought and an 108 year drought.
