Great job, I find a simple nuance is using the knee and foot position. When the knee is ahead of the foot (ankle) the front has weight. When the foot is ahead of the knee, the weight is rearward. This is a simple immediate and easy to gauge method. In the chunk and jank, estimating where the hips are versus the rear axle is harder than awareness of the knee and foot. Also the feeling of driving the bike through the bottom bracket(feet) with light touch on the handlebars helps keep positioning good.

Thanks! Yeah I really wanted to do this one and have it as a reference point before doing more advanced lessons. But without understanding that big foundation of riding position nothing else really makes as much sense :)

Hey Richard I got the haha. But honestly I think that everybody should have a good foundation on riding a bike off road with no suspension at all. Unfortunately it's not a thing and not everybody's going to enjoy a BMX in their youth but I can honestly say that I got an early start and the progression has been fabulous. The equipment nowadays is amazing. I grew up in lake Tahoe and I've ridden all the most famous trails there and had a hand in building most of them I've ridden squaw valley top to bottom all day long on bikes with no suspension. The experience of that leads me to ride differently the most I'm sure and when I finally do get to a full suspension bike I'm sure I'll really enjoy it....... One day I'll grow up,,😁 Hey and to be clear I'm not dissing anybody I guess I'm just so technologically starved because it has been so long since I was in the sport that I'm pretty damn happy with a Schwinn Walmart bike with basic discs and a big box shock....lol And yes I'm going to upgrade my new Schwinn just for fun before I move on to a real bike.

I am not saying i'm the best rider or coach but I can definitely help people learn how to be more confident and safer on the bike all while going faster and having more control. @@AprilRideMTB same here except I'm far far away from the podium :). I myself live in the boise area so I think it is pretty awesome to have the privilege of using the same local parks and complexes as you guys do for these videos. I have not seen you guys around yet but I am sure one day i'll run into you guys! it's an honor to get such detailed instructions from very diverse and experienced riders like you guys. It definitely helps and does not go unnoticed by your community! Much love and look forward to the next video!

These lessons are awesome. I’m teaching my daughters how to ride on the trail and even though I know how to ride, teaching is a whole different matter. Being able to have them watch a pro teach a relative beginner is very productive for them. You guys make a great team. Keep up the superb work.

Congratulation Kyle and April. Simply put, these are some of the best MTB instructional videos available. Refreshing to see young professionals present fundamentals not just by the usual "how to" but the "physics " behind those skills. Well done and keep them coming!

I rode the last 2 days focusing on my heel angle when descending, jumping etc. It is so wild how dropping the heel changes control and handling. It was easier to get my butt back and I was more firmly planted on the bike. Thank you!

Your body position video has helped my bike handling greatly! I was getting bounced around by being crouched on the bike with completely bent elbows and knees. The stack also helped me set my shifters and brake levers position.

Using the scales to show much pressure is being applied to either the front or rear wheel simply by moving your foot a little was a real eye opener. Very much appreciated!

Hey Kyle & April, just wanted to comment to say how much I appreciate your videos. I find something explained in every one of your videos that I haven't seen anywhere else. You touched on it briefly in this video about finding your balance point and then setting up your bar position based on that, but expanding that idea into a full bike fit video would be fantastic. Thanks again, keep doing what you're doing, looking forward to the next one.

Thank for your videos. I wish I had learned this abilities when I was a child ,I grow up near a cycling race lops, that I use to ride there ones in a while but there was no coaches around who could teach us ..back in Ecuador 🇪🇨 Now I comprehend all the tricks, tips, tactics and techniques. Its important when someone teaches you to analyze the effort and time . Thank you both of you for New Yersey.

Great perspective and demonstration. My wife has struggled confidence riding off-road. I attribute this to body position on the bike. She's just 5ft tall so bike fit, at a reasonable cost, was incredibly difficult. Thanks for the spot on insight and willingness to share your knowledge.

Another well thought out video! The weight transfer makes so much sense. I knew the basics but you showing how to use weight to manipulate the bike and in what situation is awesome. I have so many things to work on while riding. Thanks and heal fast, April!
