10:27 I had no idea the term "shadow drop" originated from Easy Allies. According the EZA fandom wiki, Isla coined it in 2016 on an episode of Huber Syndrome. That's awesome.

This is something I've been dealing with lately as well. 2023 was a hallmark year for games. I felt so full and happy with the variety and quality of software, and 2024 has continued that trend where I've been racing through games at a breakneck pace just to keep up and prepare myself for the next big thing. Then Rebirth came out and I have just been in LOVE. I've been taking my time, ignoring fast travel, soaking in the sights, relishing in the music, delighting in the character moments...there's just this non-stop pleasure in taking a knee and savoring each and every session without rushing the experience. To have something on the horizon that might cut into that time does feel a bit burdensome (which is of course a complete first-world, zeitgeist chaser gamer problem) and it fills me with this weird anxiety. Either way, Rebirth really has reset my expectations of what I care about in major AAA game releases and to have something that delivers so beautifully everything I ever would want from an expanded FFVII experience - this is it baby.

Dragon's Dogma is beloved because it has some of the richest class based combat, and a very organic moment to moment experience. It's supposed to be a Journeyman simulator. I get that there are a lot of great games to be played, but for people not like Kyle (i.e. younger players) they have decades of games on their plate. I think DD2 is a game we want to see succeed, to show that this style of game can thrive and should be funded. But dismissing it as a burden sort of sets it up to be misconstrued. Like, Kyle doesn't have enough attention to really appreciate what this game does and is pigeonholding it as some revival of rightfully obscure game. DD1 is wrongly obscure, and deserves a second chance.

As a Dragons Dogma fan, and an avid 3rd Person Action RPG player in general, no sir my plate is not full. I have ignored all the items on the menu surrounding the date around the release of Dragons Dogma 2. I will be eating good up until Elden Ring DLC. And somewhere there after I will be eating good with Ghost of Tsushima Steam as I have not played that game. And after 2024 closes, its Monster Hunter Wilds next on the Menu.

I think Alters is another of 11bit Studios projects based on a Stanisław Lem story, but this time very loosely. The original was a sci-fi comedy/satire with the main character Ijon Tichy being a goofy goober of a space explorer in a farcical universe. If they kept the original's wacky, somewhat surreal mood, with an appropriate comedy actor choice, it would have been quite a treat! A _serious_ take on the concept does not enthuse as much.

YES. I feel you. I've been full FOR YEARS. I haven't been excited for a new video game to come out in a long, LONG time. The last game I remember being excited for was Resident Evil 7, and I still haven't played it. 🙄 There are too many quality games being created, and they take too long, that it doesn't make sense for me to keep buying them. The video game industry could shut down for probably about ten years and it wouldn't phase me at all. ☹️🤷‍♂️

Enjoyed FF7 Rebirth a lot but those sidequests and some parts of the main scenario overstay their welcome, made me realise how more focused FFXVI was, amazing game but it pads its length for no reason

@@evanroznoy940 I consider myself patient, I did all XVI's sidequests before the ending, they could be at worst monotonous but at least I could notice the purpose behind them since they expand the world and characters. Rebirth's sidequests are exactly what Kyle describes here as burdensome, they have good ones, but there is a point that it becomes too much and made me enjoy the game less, gave up and finished the game, will return to finish all of them at some point, recommend to do the same if it becomes too much for you as well.
