I'm still rocking a base model M1 MacBook Air, because it keeps on chugging. These M processors are the best thing Apple has put out in awhile! My laptop barely moves from my desk, so I'm thinking of an M4 Pro Mini as my next machine and this certainly sways me in that direction.

Agreed. I went with a base M4 Mini on my desktop and a deeply discounted M1 iPad Air 5 (adding a Brydge-branded keyboard/case) for traveling. Since I am not a content creator and I don't make money on my Macs....this setup should last me 3-4 years, minimum.

I purchased one of the first M1 mini's in 2020 and honestly it's handled everything I've thrown at it. The only thing it struggled a bit with was editing 4k video in Final Cut. I mostly make content for IG so working with 1080 wasn't a problem and it did pretty well there however the m4 model is INSANE, I can finally edit 4k video and it's been incredibly smooth even with optimizing for quality over performance. The M4 Mini's are hands down the best value for a personal computer on the market today. I went with the 24GB / 1TB combo.

Looking specifically for 4kvideo editing for projects up 30 mins long in Final Cut, do you think this is going to cut over the studio?
@findingthereal90526 күн бұрын
@@cigitipton3885 depends if you want efficient render and fast export. I would still be going for a Max chip with dual media engines. Wait for the M4 studio or buy an M2 Max second hand there seem to be a lot on the market now. Alternatively buy an M4 Pro mini and test it thoroughly for a week and return if you think it’s underpowered. Don’t buy any upgrades and it’s great value. You cannot spec a PC for anything like the features you get at that price but as soon as you start buying upgrades the value tanks and you’d be better off with a Studio (so long as you don’t upgrade that hah). Honestly, if the Apple purchasing community actually came together and started a movement to get Apple to be more competitive on there upgrade prices I think they could win. If it went viral it could affect their share price.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, going from my M2 Pro base model which btw I find incredible as it handles heavy compositing and magic masking while having noise reduction on for sometimes 10 + clips and throwing even more stuff at it like more effects, more vertical duplicate clips on a timeline, more grading DCTL's and things like Look Designer 2, but I was wondering if you noticed a difference with renders, working on a Davinci timeline or FCP or Premiere timeline in comparison to the M2 Pro. I take my M2 Pro MM everywhere, but the form factor of the M4 Pro MM makes it all worthwhile for me but I wanted your impressions on heavier video tasks and on exporting times for whichever NLE you're using and if you noticed a difference in those with the M2 Pro Mac Mini. Thank you so much.

All I can say is the M4 Pro chip is now a truly Pro chip now. The increase in Performance to Efficiency cores is great. I have updated (trade-in) to both the M4 Pro MacBook Pro and M4 Mini Pro, but I plussed up the MacBook Pro version the same as you did with the Mini, but went with the base Mini. Just my use case.. However, I did have a Thunderbolt hub with SD card reader and also now have a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure with a 2TB NVME drive attached. This is my primary Photo Editing and general use computer. The upgraded M4 Pro MacBook Pro is my field Video editing work horse. Then all I have to do next year is to upgrade my M1 Mac Studio to M4 Mac Studio. Waiting on that. to see what they release next year. But the M4 Pro chip is a real beast and finally what we have been wanting. I started with the M1 Mini and found that was not enough and within minutes of them announcing the M1 Studio, I did the immediate upgrade. It now has come full circle. :). Can't even update my OS to get the latest FCPX because apple removed that functionality on the old iMacs. I've decided that the M2 Max (64GB memory & 1TB storage) meets all my needs and is almost the same price as maxing out the new Mac Mini M4 pro. I edit everything off of my 4TB Samsung T7 SSD and will be using a studio display. I can't wait another 7 months for the new m4 max to be announced and feel like the M2 max will be more than enough coming from my intel based iMac. Is this a bad move? Could you recommend an affordable monitor to go with this machine. The Studio Display at that price is meaningless. Thanks.

Very interesting video. Thank you from Italy! A question: which type of monitor do you recommend pairing to regular Mac mini M4 for home - office? Thanks for your observations. 😊

Why is Apple so desperately promoting this one?
@DanielDChannel6 күн бұрын
My guess is they want more people to try a mac mini for people who are on the fence. It seems their are more people who are willing to take a chance on a 599 machine then invest more money and a more price machine. But yes these contenten creaters are really pushing this mac mini like sales men on a car lot.

New Mac Mini 16 GB RAM 256 GB SSD 10-10 cores for $599 is a really good price point ! Now get this, compared to the exact same specs on an 24" iMac, you're paying $900 extra for a 24" screen which is TOTAL BULLS$$T !!!

Don’t forget the cost of the keyboard and mouse

And webcam and speakers The Mac Mini is still a better buy imo as someone who has owned iMacs since 2005! I’m going to be buying a Mac Mini as I already have all the extras now from working for different companies since covid times.

You said you paid $900 more to buy a iMac. You have to deduct the price of a keyboard and a mouse.(Say $200) With $700 left, you have to buy a good quality 4K monitor which is not easy to find with $700 budget. I have a M1 iMac, the monitor is 4.5K and the screen quality is excellent when compared with other monitors. Keep in mind Apple product is always very expensive!
