I’m a lifelong windows user and in the last decade or so, I jumped on the iPhone and iPad bandwagon Whilst umming and ahh-ing over a new laptop as a treat to myself, your videos (as well as a big shove from my Mac-loving wife) have been a key component in my decision to buy a MacBook (il mostly be using it for music composition, and I know Mac’s excel for creatives) and which model to opt for given my budget I have yet to finish watching the entirety of this video - but as I sit watching and currently opening the box of my new purchase - I just wanna say thank you for the way your videos explain things, the effort you clearly put into them and the sound advice you give. It’s the little things, the ‘two fingers to right click’ kind of stuff, that I really appreciate. It’s not until you change to an entirely foreign operating system that you realise just how much you take your knowledge for the simple things for granted! Anyway, I’m rambling - but super grateful for your content 🙏

Oh, shortcuts can be an entire video. I agree command+space for spotlight is the most handy. I use that all the time, every day, for opening apps and performing calculations. The other that you mentioned, ctrl+cmd+shift+4 to take a snip of anything on the screen and not actually save it as a screenshot, but rather to your clipboard. I use that CONSTANTLY to send pictures of items or cars or houses or whatever to my kids and mother. It's like using the 'snipping' tool in Windows, but Windows requires you to snip, wait a second to load, copy the item, paste it, and then close the snipping tool. It takes FOREVER (comparatively), and unfortunately my work computer is a Windows laptop, and so i go through that disastrous sequence all the time. Again, ctrl+cmd+shift+4 is IMO the most underrated shortcut on the Mac, period stop :)
@janmuller329027 күн бұрын
windows + shift + s does the same. It copies the selected area to the clipboard and it works pretty fast even on old laptops

Shift + command + 4 and 3 for full screen . No need for ctrl by default. If you need to press all four it seems tricky with one hand :D For screen recording shift + command + 5, but there are other tools

I agree and use all the shortcuts and most of the other features you mentioned. The only thing I do differently is I use Super Duper for backing up my Mac which I do on a regular basis. Create a new list of folders instead of using the default “Documents” “Pictures ” etc . This will help you down the line if you don’t want to use iCloud. They will be always in the same folders you create . Hide the default folders and pin your created folders.

You can simply drag and drop dock icons into the trash, which keeps the app itself. Great overview and tips! That path bar is helpful; still learning after six years :D. But to see the desktop without icons, do you just need to minimize all windows? Double-clicking the wallpaper still shows the desktop icons, or is there an easy way to hide them all? It seems like Mission Control and Desktop 2 switch will be the fastest way while using gestures, no need to minimize or exit the apps. One click on desktop will then reveal icons if needed

If you work with DAW apps, as in it is one of your pri.ary sources of income, do not turn on any sort of automatic system updates. Apple is notorious for putting out updates that make your audio plug ins and peripherals non-functional. The amount of time needed for Apple or the vendors to fix it can be great.

Every few months or so, I reset my Mac and start from scratch. This is because a Mac can accumulate storage as time goes by. It can be a pain to set everything up the way you had it but your Mac will run a lot smoother as a result. Using CleanMyMac X on a regular basis does help.

One can just change this by going to the trackpad settings in Preferences and selecting 'bottom right corner' next to 'secondary clicking'. Holding down the control button while clicking is just silly and a waste of time.
