Amazing conversations and I basically feel like Kyle does when he talks about being affected by someone. I also work on my own art (or try to when I have time and the luxury and the space) and feel the same excitement way you say you mentioned about discovering something new when doing project after project. Unfortunately the industry I feel I would love to just do project after project like you do isn't very friendly to accepting requests from unknowns to have remixes of their original music. My first one that I tried to do was rejected and that hit pretty hard, so I did kinda put that passion on the back burner because of it. Regardless, thank you for having this conversation and for your previous recent videos where you mention your excitement for learning new things! You both are my inspiration for always wanting to learn something new even if I won't every get to do it myself

I'm not quite so sure this saying covers such a vast expanse as it once did. These days a lot of "our heroes" engage _a lot_ in bidirectional audience dialog, and with screentime not being so incredibly finite and costly, they engage and tell their stories far more off the cuff. And there's so much more view into their person and mind through reflection and banter. All this to say, there's of course some truth to the idea still - but overall, I think today we usually have a much fuller and neuanced picture of who and what our heroes really are. So meeting them is not nearly as high risk. This is an area in which the age of general public internet access, online /digital publication and social media has truly enabled great changes.

In a few videos on Tested, he's talked about when and why this changed for him. Basically, though he loved meeting fans, the meet and greets after the Mythbusters tour were completely exhausting. He figured out that by not pulling back and trying to distance himself from the people, if he gave into it, not only did it make the experience better for them, it made it better for him, too. The time flew by, and it stopped being exhausting. So he's just absorbed it into his being now.

In 2014 a friend of mine called me up and asked me if I could build a catapult. My first thought was "no, if course not." Then she told me that she was hosting a planning party for a cub scout day camp and asked me to come join in to see if there was anything I could do to help them. At the meeting she showed me a blueprint for a small 24" catapult that she wanted the webelos to make and it was such a simple design that I thought "yeah, I can do that." Then she said that she needed 30 of them and i started laughing out of fear because it was a bigger job than I thought I could handle but she assured me that she just needed them measured and cut and that the boys would be doing the assembly with my supervision. I messed up a few of the cuts and I miscalculated the structural integrity and had to replace one of the pieces with a stronger support but after the boys finished assembling then and had their firing competition they were so happy they wanted to skip their pool time and come play with the catapults they built. All the parents came up to me after camp and told me that I was their kids' favorite part of camp and they couldn't wait for next year's camp. I swear I was high for 6 months after that. The next year I was so excited I told her not to even ask if I was helping again, just tell me when the meetings start. We had an avengers themed camp and I built a captain America shield, angry angry hulk hands and secret boxes and never once thought I couldn't do it.

One of my favorite things about Adam is some contrast that he has to other famous people. I've heard of so many other people, when talking about the experience that made them famous, they always say how much they hated that thing. They hate that it's the only thing that people want to talk about, they talk about how every day of that experience was miserable, etc. But when Adam talks about MythBusters, it's always about how grateful he is that he had the opportunity, and how even though there were challenges and bad days, he loved every minute of it.

To Adam's Coda, the author and KZbinr, John Green, often talks about how a novel is only his until it is released into the world, at that point it becomes a part of a community who will ascribe new and different meanings to the work and will even build off of or transform the work in new ways. That is both the most scary, but also the most wonderful part about releasing your art into the world.

Adam is truly genuine. It really reminds me that similarly, I recently read Dave Grohl's Auto-Biography. My big take away from it is, it really does seem that the dude just loves everything about all music and making it. He's not making (and never has) made decisions about how to optimize his path to success metric, he just follows his passion and the rest falls in line. I think that quality is what makes the greatest communicators and artists into legends.

I am not a scientist, nor have any sort of scientific career. Yet my scientific understanding, which of course feeds into general understanding of the world around me, has allowed me to keep my curiosity & gift some to others over the years. I can thank Mythbusters for much of that ignition. And I just hope that Adam, Kyle, Jamie...ya'll know that through those seemingly infinite amount of interactions with so many people---You have legitimately changed the world for the better. ...Much love ✌🏻

Loved watching this; Adam is phenomenal and someone I've grown up watching. Kyle, you've been on my Radar since the birth of Because Science. As a youtuber myself, at lot of this hits home and helps me wrap my head around this profession that I've found myself a part of for the last 6 years or so. Man, what a ride!

Omg Kyle this was so amazing I kept audibly making noises during this interview like yelling omg I do that too. Lol thank you for being a science educator and teaching us new things you, Adam, and Alton have honestly changed my life. Alton taught me how to cook with science and rethink everything. Adam taught me to have a systematic approach to fixing or testing anything. You my friend taught me how to tie science and my interest like pop culture, comics, movies and bridge gaps in people's understanding. Thank you all.

Kyle, Adam, thank you both for having this conversation on screen and sharing it with us. It means a lot to many of us, too. Aside from the fact that I got to have the same vicarious feeling as a longtime Mythbusters fan, I also have a doctorate and work in climate and energy (my friends used to joke about the fact that I majored in "saving the world" in college) and as someone who recently started a company to work on things to that effect, so much of the conversation here hit home in so many ways. I don't know if either of you will ever see this comment, but I want to put it out there anyway: THANK YOU! As someone who is now on the "front line" of climate change solutions, I just want to share how important and how special a place in my heart the FUN of science and engineering is, and how much you have both done to instill that passion. Both of you have made a difference, and are continuing to make a difference, in all of the candles of fun you've lit throughout the years. This is a special one. I'm so glad you both decided to make this happen!

I’m seriously so damned happy for you, man. To get to make this opportunity for yourself and that you framed it all so perfectly. Some hero worship, some celebrity starry-eyes, but also a strong respect for a mutual science-promoter, a maker and builder. And definitely believe I mean this when I say, no flattery: Adam Savage was privileged and honored to work with you as well. You’re an excellent torch-carrier to pick up from MB and help continue that light moving out to the world. Curiosity, skepticism, healthy intellectual wonder, a willingness to try and learn and evolve as knowledge evolves; you help bring all this further, man. Thank you.

I gotta say, Kyles use of expletives is incredibly endearing. Makes me feel like this entire interaction is really honest and down to earth. It seems so organic, creating a moment where I can realistically imagine having this exact conversation with Kyle myself. The fact that I’m an Aussie might have something to do with my feelings on your swears Kyle.

I should never be surprised when two KZbinrs I love know each other and work together like this, but it definitely makes the channels I follow feel even more like "community." Also, where do I sign up for the Savage Army? I don't want to miss any call to action there might be... Bat signal type thing?

It still blows my mind how much Adam has impacted science. He never set out to be a scientist, inspire science in younger people or really be all that educational. He was just a practical effects guy blowing things up. Yet he did inspire lots of people to science. No surprise to see award winning science educator Kyle Hill doing an interview with him, but completely welcome.

I've always liked listening to Adam speak but this shows how great he is. It is awesome to hear his stories, especially how humble he is when he is talking about his impact on other people and how much he wants to see other people succeed. I also think my new favorite quote is "I was not skilled enough to complete this when I started, and I figured out how to complete it while I built it." As a lot of times I don't start a project because I don't know how to finish.

What an amazing conversation! I'm with you Kyle on not having an exact person you are talking to but more of an idea or concept (which may translate to talking to yourself).
