I own an FX 6, two Canon C200s, C300 MKII, three Fuji X-T3s and half a dozen BMD Micro G2s for our podcast. Before there were DSLRs, I owned several camcorders, EX1, HPX170, HVX200, DVX100. I've owned a LOT of cameras in my career and camcorders are a great tool to have in your camera locker. For shooting long distance sports like surfing, wind sailing, motorsports, airshows, a camera like the FX6 is a nightmare. A Z200 with a huge range servo zoom in a small, self-contained package is absolutely perfect for run & gun documentary, event coverage, shooting in war zones, shooting action sports. They are for when you don't have time to mess with Frankenrigs and just need to take it out of the bag, turn it on and shoot, no lens changes, they are great on batteries and they just work, instantly. In comparison, cine cameras are much more fussy and finicky because you need a whole gear shop worth of accessories to make them functional as you do for mirrorless cameras also. The people wishing it was S35 are missing the whole point. How large, heavy and expensive would it be to build a S35 camcorder with a 24-480mm servo zoom lens? Camcorders aren't for low light. It's going to have less detail than an FX6, but it is so useful. I am picking up an FX3 to go with my FX6 but after that, i will likely pick up the Z200, great tool for under $4k, It really is true, everything does run on a cycle, its kind of hilarious that to young shooters, a camcorder is like some sort of oracle from a far away planet. These are what we were all shooting with in the early 2000s and lots of great television and films were made with them. Modern digital cinema cameras are amazing, for cinema, but for a lot of other types of shooting, cinema cameras are a PITA and the wrong tool. Amazing how many people don't get that. Thanks Sony for putting out what looks to be a great camcorder at an amazing price if you break down all of the features. These cameras are proof that trying to shoot everything, every type of assignment or shoot with a cinema cameras is a recipe for frustration when tools like the Z200 can do certain assignments so much better. If you never shoot any of those assignments, simple, don't get one, stick with your FX6. But choice is a beautiful thing.

KZbinrs all commenting "make it s35" obviously dont get the use case for camcorders. Sony had the fs5 and fs7 that were s35 and you were not getting that type of focal length/aperture on anything you could handhold. I mean, just look at the 28-135 f4 pz lens you have on the fx6, its nearly half the size of the Sony camcorder that reaches out to 480mm. 20x servo zooms that are quality are not something you can easily buy or easily manage on a s35 camcorder, especially trying to run around and frame shots handheld at the end of the zoom. Sony needs to invite professional journalists, eng camera people to showcase and test these types of cameras rather than KZbinrs because they dont get it.

This is the comment I was looking for. Especially with equivalent pixel density, sensor size is the rocket science of cameras. All the commenters trashing this camera and the sensor size simply don’t get it. I own a FS7, FX6, a7S3 and an a7IV. If you want the large sensor look, buy a large sensor camera, but physics don’t care about your feelings… It’s going to be a big camera. If you want a small, all-in-one package to shoot news, events, and documentary this is a compelling offer. If the image matches the FX6 closely enough in picture quality, use them together in a pinch. This camera solves a problem. Stop and think about it, it wasn’t very long ago that getting proper time code for multicam use was almost impossible under $10,000. I remember how professionals begged to have a smaller/cheaper option than a F3 or other Cinealta camera for multicam interviews. It was only until earlier this year that Sony announced a time code widget for the Alpha cameras. That feature plus the lens focal length with FX6 style processing isn’t something you find everywhere. Sony will sell a boatload of these… to the right customer, but not necessarily KZbinrs who drool over how Gareth Edwards filmed The Creator. 😂

Had mine delivered two days ago and getting used of the operations and menus etc. I shoot weddings for 25+ years and have been using a X200 and am very happy with that, this camera, so far, the NX800 (don't need SDI) is looking good, I was a bit concerned that the lens stops down to 4.5 in low light at full zoom, but I need not have concerned myself because the 30db of gain that is required at that aperture does not introduce any noise atall, would I have been prepared to pay another 1K for a constant f2.8, like on my x200 and ZV1, I would say I would, but I'm not sure if it is necessary because of how low the noise is with the (sometimes) f4.5 lens on the NX800. However, there are a couple of nice touches that are on the ZV1 that are not on this 1" sensor camera and one is the "face recognition auto exposure" and also A real biggie, no "Exposure Lock" in auto exposure, this is a real biggie and a great help on the ZV1, I call it semi auto exposure. I would say that at this price point, this camera will be bought by a lot of the "Auto everything" guys, if you are listening Sony, include "AE Lock" when you update the firmware to make the backlight work (you assign this to a shortcut button) but I can't make it work, but so far it is , from what I see, a super camera and I think I will be filming my next few hundred weddings on it.

First off, great video. The Sony Kando trip looks like great fun. Secondly, the $3,200 price tag is very enticing. I’ll have to seriously consider buying this camera. Obviously, the limited DoF is a bummer. And maybe this isn’t the camera to get if you’re a wide angle lens enthusiast, but the only other downside seems to be the small-ish 1” sensor. However, maybe a denoise plugin can clean up any low light footage enough so that the footage you record can be used on paid gigs. Anyways, I’ve subbed and I’ll checkout this camera on B&H’s site.

It's really depressing to see a whole group of video/creative "influencers" not grasp the concept of sensor size and lens physics. Of course everyone wants a full frame senor, but there's a reason a 24-480mm f/2.8 lens doesn't exist for your FX6. It would cost as much as a Ferrari and be the size of a refrigerator. The entire reason these camcorders have "balanced" size sensors is to be able to get you that massive reach in a package that can fit in a backpack. For the types of work these kinds of cameras are used for, the functionality and flexibility beats a cinema camera any day.

Record unlimited, don't overheat, large battery packs last for your entire shoot, lenses are parfocal etc The full frame gear is sexier because you can potentially do all the arty wannabe filmaker stuff, like film someone caressing over wheat in a field with uber shallow depth of field and apply a arty lut to the log/raw footage... which is great but it's mostly B-roll stuff and not the actual core stuff you get paid for. BASICALLY HE SAID: IF YOU WANT TO RECORD (NOT FILM) PROFESSIONAL VIDEO THERE YOU HAVE A PHOTO CAMERA THAT GIVES YOU THAT OPTION, THAT'S WHY MANY KZbinRS BUY PHOTOGRAPHIC CAMERAS AND LOOK LIKE MONSTERS WITH 20 THOUSAND THINGS ON TOP OF THEM AND WHEN THEY WORK BEST THEY PUT THEM IN GIMBALLS, ARGUING THAT CAMERAS GIVE BETTER DEPTH OF FIELD, OF COURSE ACCORDING TO THE LENS IT IS OBVIOUS THAT IF YOU BUY A SIMPLE CAMCORDER THEN NO, BUT GREAT RECORDINGS AND TRANSMISSIONS ARE MADE WITH CAMCORDER NOT WITH CAMERAS...THE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM HAS BEEN EXTENDED FOR THIS KIND OF PEOPLE..

I love that Panasonic has had this camera for YEARS but because Sony brought all the influences out, it's getting hyped up. Oh and Panasonic's is $1000 less.

The cx350 doesn't have as good of autofocus as the Sony will but the feature set of that camera is solid. Doesn't do 4k120 though.

@ledheavy262 ай бұрын
@@andersistbesserIt's a nice to have feature but I agree it is something I would rarely use. I think slow-mo, like ultra shallow depth of field, is so over done these days that it just seems like cheap filler a lot of the time.

Panasonic wishes it had face tracking AF on the level of Sony. Their highest level camcorder is 4K, yet only has 3G SDI out, and the ND system is hard stops. The cameras are toys compared to this.

But like, why am I not convinced? I find something like the Fuji XH2S more appealing and cheaper.

"Only camera with VND and IS apart from the Burano"... ???? The Image Stabilization is in the FIXED lens... It's like putting a 28-135 on the FX6. It has nothing to do with the Burano VND and IS combination on the sensor side.

@@CCD-dreamcore Sure, aparature is probably variable. Like it is with most if not all all in one cams. Usable dynamic range, one would think would be the most obvious talking point when dealing with a small sensor camera ... Well, this is not journalism, it's more or less a promo piece.

I think this camera is good compared to the old models of the same category from Sony K. But I don't think this camera is excellent compared to other cameras from other companies such as DJI. I don't know why Sony manufactures cameras like this category without caring about quality, as if it produces them without any attraction to its products. If we compare this camera with the new iPhone, there is a difference like the difference between heaven and earth.
@ledheavy262 ай бұрын
It's not marketed towards you obviously. If you're comparing this to an iPhone then you don't get it.

I don't understand the fx6 " half the price" comparison since it's a full frame video camera without a lens. It's just absurd.
@HeathcliffBlair2 ай бұрын
Seems like a nice, general utility camera, but additional to the fixed variable lens and noise performance, its dynamic range and colour science probably let it down in comparison with other cameras, some of which are considerably cheaper. Nevertheless, a handy device for its target market.
