Patience is largely what separates the professional from the amateur. I used to work with an old cabinet maker - he would spend 3 hours making a gig to make 1 perfect cut.

I agree with all of the comments but the thing that sticks out the most is this Master of blades just showed that if he or any of us lost everything but the love of making blades, that you could literally build a knife with 300$ or less and make something worth 2-3 times the 200-300$ investment. That and he shares almost all his knowledge for free, that is what makes a true Master, passing down the knowledge to and for future Bladesmiths. Thanks Kyle.

When I was a kid I used to make walking sticks with carved horn handles, dogs heads, shepherds crooks and the like. I did not even have electricity in the shed. The drill was turned by hand under the light of an old paraffin storm lantern. But actually - they were some of the best things I have ever made. I have nothing else, all the time in the world and the enthusiasm. We think a workshop is a must to do ANYTHING. Its really not...

It's kind of nice when the obsession of a family member ends up integrating the whole family into the hobby or the job and that way you get closer together again. On the other hand, I ask myself - what is life like with an absolute perfectionist in the family?
