I installed a sink and show a basic water setup for an off grid or dry cabin. I also made some nesting boxes for the chickens and have been filling up the woodshed. The homestead is taking shape.

Many different designs for each type of project are also included. For example, there are hundreds of designs kzbin.infoUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu for outdoor buildings, from small sheds all the way up to a complete stable. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.

When you said in your opening vid that you were a "Millennial", I nearly fell off my chair! I'm sure you must be the reincarnation of a 19th Century farmer. If all Millennials were as hardworking and talented as you, we would live in a different world, as most can't even wire a plug.

EGGS: Fresh eggs will last without refrigeration for 8 to 10 weeks as long as you don't wash them. They are laid with a coating (called bloom) that seals the shell and prevents bacteria from getting in. Sweden doesn't allow washed eggs in the market place and they are never refrigerated in the stores. Great videos. I look forward to each one. Thanks.
@MrTonyPiscatelle3 жыл бұрын
Yep , folks use to store them in baskets ,even after refrigeration was available.

Yes it is. I lived just a little west of Bemidji. I sold my place in 2015. Couldn't do those frigid winters anymore. My arthritis was giving me fits. I'm in the Midwest now, coldest winter here was last winter. Record cold temps of -20. Go figure.🤔🤔😁😂😂

If you have eggs straight from the chickens you don't need to store them in a refrigerator/cooler. They should stay fresh for weeks (even months, we usually use them up sooner so can't tell exactly how long). Important thing is that you do not wash them if you plan to store them. Just put them someplace dray and dark. This should help you save some space in your cooler 😉 Store bought eggs (already refrigerated) have to be stored in a refrigerator.

Kyle I have a tip for you. Fresh eggs don't need to be refrigerated, just don't wash them until use. Eggs you buy in the frig section of the store are pasteurized and need to be kept cold so they don't spoil.

Suggestion for your Wood Stove; add a 24"×24" Door next to the Stove to Easily Load Wood with a Firewood Staging Area Next to it. Once you start using it, you'll love the Convenience!

I have a friend that has a smaller than usual (but walk straight in - no bending over) door on the wall next to the wood stove. The door leads directly into an outdoor bump out - kind of like a nice shed on one side of the front of the house. That shed holds a half cord of stacked split wood. Just open the door inside and get the wood you need. And refill it from the outside. No storing the wood inside the house at all.

Was literally about to come in and say the same thing. It is the washing process in shop bought eggs that means they require refrigeration. Here in the UK our shop eggs are processed differently, so are never in fridge units in shops, but on the regular shelves. Really throws a lot of Americans if they don't know this when they visit 😅

You're doing a great job, Kyle! I thought you took a break from posting because of the Canadian wildfire smoke invading Minnesota so much lately. I've been dealing with it in northern Minnesota, too. I'm a ways west of the arrowhead. I can't split wood like you. My MS doesn't let me have a good swing like you have! I'd be down for the count! I'm interested in seeing your grey water system. I'm building an off-grid shack on our property until we get to build our actual house. I can't tie into our septic system. I'm going to be like your house. Solar? No well, no septic.Just want to keep it simple. You're such an inspiration! You do so much, so good! You give it all! Thanks for sharing the experience! Great video!

IMPORTANT: You must have a vent on the gray water tank side of the trap. Your current type of drain could actually siphon all the water out of the trap, allowing the "stink" from the gray water system into your cabin.

If you need more space in your fridge you do not need to refrigerate your fresh eggs, so long as you don't wash them. They will stay good for weeks, if not a couple of months. I do not keep my eggs in the fridge. I found your video of you building your cabin. I was looking for something good to watch since I sprained my ankle and couldn't do much. I liked what I saw and subscribed. You are young and energetic. Don't expect your homestead to be perfect right away. It takes time. I have been working at building mine for 3 years now, and I'm an old woman. You are doing very well. I will give you one warning, the only thing chicken wire is good for is keeping chickens in. It will NOT keep predators out. I bought what they call "rat wire" around here. It's 1"x 2" welded wire. It's a heavier gauge wire than chicken wire.
