I read the entire Ryan's kzbin.infoUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan's Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan's Shed Plans.

I really hope you achieve this goal, and your happy living this way. I’m a tad jealous as I would love to live this way too but I picked poor partners. I’m 69 years old now and to late for me. Do whatever you need to do as your young. Living this way requires youth, strength. Get it done then maintain it the rest of your life with a healthy strong partner. Or, just do it yourself. Don’t “wait” for the right partner. Life has a way of falling in place. God speed!

Good Morning! I have never seen a chainsaw sharpened before. I loved the redneck comment. It gave me my morning chuckle. I am glad to hear more chickens are coming to the property. There is nothing like fresh farm eggs. You will have more customers then you can handle for buying eggs. Buying more land is a very smart idea. You two have gumption and smarts. 😊 You live the life that a lot of us city slickers wish we could live. Thank you for taking all of us on your journey. 🌲🌲🌲 ☕ You deserve a nice hot cup of hot chocolate or coffee.

I have been living over 40 years now in a house that is heated with wood only. Here in Finland we do our wood all in spring, mainly birch. It dryes in summer and then we store in in some kind of wood storage building for use, some may store covered out as well. We do not have almost all dead wood in our forests so maybe that is the main reason, but it sure is some kind of weird to watch this kind of every day wood collecting thing wich is common everywhere america/canada/alaska region. Got to mention that I have max 10-30kW boiler that heats 2000 liter of water that circulates in radiators ( over 500 gallons )

My parents bought a single acre of lake front property in western Maine, in 1967. A road was cut in, graded and a camp site area for tents was created. Over the ensuing years they went from tents to a used single wide trailer. Dad built a utility shed that housed a water pump, single pre fab shower stall, sink and toilet. Later before my parents retired they built a small two bedroom cabin with a loft. Dad put up a two car garage that was mostly his work shop. That place had to be sold in 2013. My Dad passed in 2006 and my Mom stayed on the land till her health was not good enough for being there, especially in Winter. A simple 3K investment turned into a $356,000K sale in 2013. Land is always a good investment since it never really devalues. Mark Twain said, "Buy land, they're not making it anymore."

Love to see what you're up to, Kyle! I saw those Meateater books on your shelf, great selections, I've got those myself. Sorry to hear about the chickens, amigo, that's a rough one. But next time around you'll have mink in mind while building and that will help! Ever upward, my friend! Top notch DIY topper for the truck, too. If you want the roof to last as long as possible I'd coat it with some protectant, anything from paint or stain to poly or even roofing tar. Just to keep the moisture off of it. In addition to all your projects, consider a sauna! It's a lovely way to stay warm and healthy! The benefits of regular sauna use are proven by science and my ancestors! Good luck land hunting, I think you've got a great idea with the development angle. I flip houses and I would love to gear more towards what you described there. I look forward to your next video, keep trucking Kyle!

In San Francisco you find old houses that have natural refrigerators in the kitchens. There are slots cut in the exterior wall covered with mesh in the back of a kitchen cabinet. The cool air from outside circulates there and it keeps things cool. That bin outside would be a meal for a bear soon in lots of places. You could have a freezer in winter that way safe from critters.

Watching your videos I’m struck by just how hard living off grid is, how hard pioneer living or 1800’s living was. If you’re sick, no matter, you still have to cut wood, get water, etc. This is not for the faint of heart or anyone who is at all lazy. Great video as always!

I find your videos fascinating and I love learning about the challenges you face. I now know that N Minnesota is about 13,000 km from where I live. I check sunrise and sunset times too and marvel at how you function at minus 30c. It's positive 26c where I live in Australia. Making videos takes time and effort and many of your routine details are interesting to me. Making a chicken coop predator proof is daunting anywhere in the world. I don't know how you got your chickens to lay so well in winter. Your life and philosophy is of real interest to me. Best wishes to you all.

Hi Kyle, I am very confident that a weasel got your chickens. Weasels kill for fun, not so much out of necessity. Next fall when I come back to Minnesota I will bring you over some weasel boxes so you can rid yourself of them. Weasels can easily get through chicken wire so you will need to use hardware cloth fence if you want to make sure no weasel get your hens. Ron Johnson
