I was in the army when this came out and I was set to be a night guard of military equipment and on a small tv this video started to play in the middle of the night on VH1 and I was feeling euphoric, home nostalgic, in love with Kylie and confused at the same time. This song has a special place in my memory because of that.
@IvoMaropo Жыл бұрын
I can totally relate to that. This song/video is very special, charming, naive, infectious and charismaric. The end result is always the same though: you simply fall in love with Kylie. Something similar (although not quite the same) also happened to me when I first saw Janet Jackson's clip for All For You, which is also a very charming and naive song/videoclip from basically the same time period (around 2001/2002).

I LOVE how every character in the video has a story that is developing (even escalating) and some even interaction with other characters (ie their stories converge). The motorists starting an argument turning into a fight for example pulls in surrounding characters trying to stop them from fighting. And it seems they all had to move a few steps to the side with every lap Kylie began. Like you have mini theater performances. Some of them even change the streets and street corners (the cars, the wheelchair man, the lady in pink, etc.). How was this space usage and timing coordinated and executed blows my mind! Of course editing was key but even before getting to post-production, there was on-set production. And yet they made it all look so simple and natural. Stunning!!! And this is a video of dialectics, ie subjects in contradictory unity with other subjects. The variety of the characters in the city suggests that: the workers; the children; the elderly; the tourists; the police; the drivers; the couple in love; the couple breaking up; the poor? (scooter) and rich? (sports bike) motorists; etc. Some of them are the opposites: young & old; lovers & ex-lovers; tourists & locals; women & men; green car & red car... It seems like all these characters metaphorically represent the many people and chaotic noise in Kylie's life and yet she has learned how to navigate this chaos, going through the rhythm, time and space of her pop career while also balancing her march with a focus on what's equally important to her in her personal life: romantic love. So sweet.

they layered the footage so well to be fair .. the way they use editing to support the repetition of the chorus by layering up the footage through rotoscope, with the added touch of the A. D timing each shot perfectly in pre production so that they walked perfectly in frame whilst saying the same thing at the same time is.. really impressive. The more you look at it as an editor the more impressive it is .. like how did one of the "kylies" pick up one of the bags that the other dropped so seemlessly if it was rotoscoped?

This song always makes me cry. Please save your negative comments for another day 🙏🏻 When I decided to be man enough to come out of the closet, I played this song, took one shot of tequila, and told my parents (later my family) that I’m gay. It was difficult to say the least! Certain family members didn’t accept me, and to this very day continue to not speak to me. My own brother doesn’t even acknowledge my existence and told my mom I’d “be better off dead,” so I wouldn’t “suffer.” And there were times I almost caved-in. But listening to this song pumped me up in a way that can’t be explained. It reminded me I that I had every right to be myself and gradually not care about any negativity around me. I’m happy and alive today (obviously). And I only hope that you all (gay, straight, bi, HUMAN) are having a day as AMAZING as you want it to be. You are all incredible people.

Everyones talking about the music video, but the song is such an incredibly intricate construction too. Just like the video, its made up of so many interlocking parts - its so full of ideas yet never quite chaotic - anyone whose a prude about pop music and thinks its stupid just needs to listen to this to start to understand how artful it can be. This song is a Sistine Chapel of pop music writing and production.

A lot of choreography timing, and rotoscoping in stacks, most likely. The camera is likely on a track and computer motion controlled to loop around on itself. Notice the background is always the same distance from camera. Notice how first Kylie is further in the background and they start to stack towards camera. Also, once first Kylie drops the purse, she never has one again. Thats how you can track first Kylie. The Kylie's do ebb and flow foreground and back, but she knew each time around to not walk on exactly the same path, or to slow her pace by a step or two (like when they all duck the ladder and run under.) The music playback i'm sure was part of her knowing how to wait a beat to let her previous self have some space. Also notice how each new Kylie is lip syncing to the current verse, but the previous Kylie's are lip syncing to the earlier verses. Also, the background characters are multiplying. Notice how the person gluing up the poster on the wall moves down a space on the wall. One near miss to look out for: at :40 second Kylie almost gets smacked in the head by the kid who's balancing on the post from the earlier loop. The arm and kid seem to get a weird blur effect as his hand passes by her hair. Tight squeeze. I wonder how many takes it took them to get it right. Or how much they rehearsed it before shooting. Amazing humans, they are. Here's a video from the 80's kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqrXgZasrq90icU that used a similar idea (stacked video, multiple clones of the performers) But here, director zbigniew rybczyński used green screen to avoid the background and rotoscoping. Just spaced the band and shot to the timing and choreography, then stacked video passes on top of each other, somehow. Also, sorry if I just ruined the magic trick.

@@ccameron894 Exactly. It definately is a loop - that ladder is already there twice on the first loop around right before the second Kylie walks out the door. That is the dead giveaway they are looping it. It, as you said, was a lot of effort and I am sure after each loop was completed they stopped and checked where the Kylie before was located so she was sure not to overlap with it. Note on the second loop the first Kylie disappears at times when there is a green car in the background passing down the street - as they did not want to show her walking through a moving car. This happens on every loop thereafter for the "second" Kylie. It was creative timing and editing to make it all the choreography work.

In 2002, Kylie Minogue was everywhere. Her “Fever” album was a non-stop hit making robot & I’m sure she was very, very busy. Maybe that’s why, for the “Come Into My World” video, she needed infinite Kylies! An infinite number of Kylies is particularly critical if she insists on continuously carelessly dropping her handbag, thus requiring additional Kylies to pick it up, thus creating a cycle of ever more Kylies! Now... the song is 4 minutes long and there are already 4 Kylies by the end of it. Assuming the process continues without interruption , according to my calculations, 20 years later, there should now be... 11 million Kylies!
