I like the "call to the light" construct a lot. So much of Star Wars media focuses on the temptations and instinctive appeal of the dark side, and treats light as a finite resource that one must jealously guard in order to keep the dark from extinguishing it. Ben Solo is a reminder that the light exerts its own pull as well, and that we as living beings also have the impulse to do right by one another and to do positive things as well.

The idea isn't a bad one. I prefer to think of it, though, as Kylo Ren being a good person at heart who is repulsed and ashamed at the notion of enjoying hurting people for no good reason - and perhaps even if there is a good reason.
