For us plane nerds - the first was an Airbus 330-200 in Qantas's domestic config, the second an elongated 330-300.. the exact planes you flew some of Qantas's oldest. And while the Business class product (other than cloth v leather and the service standards - mattress, amenity kit and food) is similar, down the back in economy the IFE screens are much better in the international 300s and 200s versus the 'domestic' ones

Just flew Turkish Business from IST to MUN on Airbus A320 and Lufthansa Business from MUN to IAD on Airbus A380 Upper deck. Turkish service was great but the food quality is going down hill in a hurry. Turkish Lounge in Istanbul Airport is Amazing. You can find almost anything you ask for except Lobster, Scallop, Shrimp type of seafood. Lufthansa service was 10 out of 10. They did not stop serving for 9 hours. Starters, Main Course, Desert, and final meal before landing all were excellent. Lufthansa's Chocolate to go was a super kind gesture before landing. The Champagne I had was also excellent. Now, I need to sell my other kidney to be able to fly Lufty A 380 Business again. It was the quietest Airplane I have ever flown, including the Airbus A350, A330, Boeing 787, 777, 747 upper deck.

I just took my first Qantas flights in over 12 months, in Business Class on the 737. The continued cut backs in catering are so noticable. I agree that the only good thing is the First Lounge but for me that is now no longer enough to go for the effort to maintain my Platinum and even to fly their Business Class anymore. I manage to fly economy with my family so I know how to survive and I have lifetime Gold so I can at least use their Qantas Club or international Business Lounge, or even better the Emirates Lounge when that can be an option.
@carolinelane95993 ай бұрын
Totally agree. I mainly fly BC Perth to Brissy. All flights are 737. Food is average at best. Last flight no IFE screens. Had to use my phone. Charging me 2k one way and you cant give me IFE screen. Last flight back from Singapore to Perth on A330 the food was slop. Took 3 hours to do dinner service. Not much difference in price between BC Perth Singapore returm in BC compared to Emirates BC Singapore to Rome return on A380. Maybe $300. Qantas just gouges at every opportunity for poor services and the food is hit and miss. Give me Emirates anyday over Qantas.
@currentaccount-xs8prАй бұрын
I had EXACTLY same complaint on a recent Perth Sg return in BC, food was, as you said slop. I haven’t flown for a few years, so the decline in quality was really apparent

Love your work Kym. A good chunk of the MEL-PER flights are on the dated 737s that you mentioned fly the MEL-SYD. What's worse is QF will put you on one of these flights after flying LHR-PER in (proper) business class. For my next trip I managed to get put on a later flight out of Perth but will now be spending 5 hours transiting. Sadly Qantas is becoming less and less an attractive option compared to other carriers that have many European destinations and allow you to avoid the BA 'business class' flight from somewhere in Europe to LHR and vice versa.

Thanks for another great vid Kym. We only fly Qantas domestically (SYD to PTH) but never business class. My wife has a disability which makes travel a bit more difficult but the service from the Qantas staff has been amazing every time. They even ensure there is a team member to push my wife in a wheelchair to our adjoining flight to Karratha. My question to you is, does any other airline compare to the service of Qantas. Domestic only please for a fair comparison.

I was flying economy (booked 5 days before flying, so no Business seats available) from LHR-SIN-MEL. I had high hopes of the seats and the service but was underwhelmed. It wasn’t terrible but certainly no better than BA or AA who I regularly fly to USA with.

I did a Sg return from Perth, earlier this month, I was surprised and disappointed with the quality of food I got. First flight I got the fish, but it was so dry it was inedible, the two scallops were nice though. Second flight, they didn’t give me my prawn entree on first pass, I was in seat 1k, so some guy at the back scored it, cause hostie thought she had a spare. She quickly grabbed my main and very apologetic, consisting of dry pasta. No trays etc for us. But the wine was nice. Once upon a time they offered coffee, I had to ask for that, but got a Tim tam with it. Come on Qantas, I’m know you can do way better.
@ShawnWang83 ай бұрын
I have flown Qantas business (mostly domestic) for years now and personally, the inconsistency in the quality of service is something I find quite noticeable and frankly disappointing for a premium product. On good days the experience is very pleasant with the staff going above and beyond. But too often the service falls short of what one would expect from a business class offering. Proactive service is rare and the staff, while not outright rude, often seem to do only the bare minimum. You never quite know whether you're going to get a true business class experience or something that feels like premium economy at most.

Do you get a better exchange rate at a money changer vs using your debit card to withdraw money from an atm in the local currency (obviously opting out of the 'for your convenience we can use X exchange rate' feature and just using the local rate)? The latter method is preferred for Euro debit cards. Or is this just a Manilla specific thing?

Thanks for sharing Kym. Have to love the pizza at Perth lounge. Its better than food on the plane in BC in recent times. The true standard Qantas business in short haul domestic is a 40 year old recliner seat. Only transcontinental has this international hard product, and only on 4 of 10 flights a day (I think). Virgin got rid of all their wide body planes when they went bankrupt, so there is no other lie flat domestic product for Australia domestic.

I travelled business class recently on the A380 and the lounge at the front was devoid of snacks and drinks. I saw a first class passenger go all the way through to the galley in business to request a can of coke and 2 of 4 toilets in business were intentionally locked by cabin staff for about 2/3rds of the flight. If this excuse for service is the 'Spirit of Australia' then I'd be ashamed to be Australian.

I just flew on a Qantas A380 Business Class from Sydney to Los Angeles and I love Qantas, but this experience was shockingly bad, primarily due to the flight attendants who deceived me into believing that I wasn’t able to visit the in-flight lounge, saying it was reserved for First Class passengers only. Additionally, I was also served the incorrect breakfast option, I notified a flight attendant of the error which was ultimately left unaddressed. I still love Qantas and will probably fly with them again as I understand that it is not the airline’s fault rather the fault of a select few disrespectful and unprofessional flight attendants; however, I am very disappointed in them for this frankly terrible service onboard.

@George-o7s3 ай бұрын
Personally think, without bias, the Qantas product is generally what kids today would call 'mid'. If you focus on your flight only and with a bit of luck, generally you wouldn't be too disappointed with a Qantas flight except perhaps feeling like you overpaid a bit. One of the main issues we have is that Qantas has essentially been downgrading their offerings whilst increasing their prices, as many other competitor airlines have been improving over the years. Added to that, Qantas has displayed monopolistic behaviours and leaned heavily into political connections to quash competition and limit the options of Australians to obtain quality affordable flights. Qantas was once a source of pride for Australians and now for many, it feels like dealing with a telecom service. Basically, it becomes a roll of the dice if you receive decent service or not. That, and if you mutter the name 'Alan Joyce', you will send a collective shudder through the hearts of all Australians due to the damage he has done to the brand.
