Dogs, Cats, and Pigs can give bonuses to harvesting various types of herbs, crops, fruits, and even mushrooms. Have one of each following you at all times, so one can be extra certain you will get one additional star to everything you harvest while traveling around. Also depending on the thing depends on whether or not you'll need to also be riding your pig at the same time. Some only require following though. In addition, some of the Fae animals provide bonus stars when harvesting Fae related things if they are following you. There is no reason to not have animals following the player at all times. Plus pets will in general result in happy NPC reactions.

there is a reason not to in my opinion : they are in the way all the time, they are very often annoying me in my roamings, when i'm picking items up or tending to my crops

To get the key from Truffles without killing him, just feed him something that will give him flatulence, like cabbage.

You can "slaughter" a pig if you give it a gassy apple and shootit with the slingshot, but if you do it infront of other pigs theyll get scared

The thing that scared me was the ugly big bad wolf by the Kettle family at midnight. I tried to hit it but he just said watch it. But this game tends to raise my blood pressure, maybe I'm too old to play this. Thank you for the tips by the way.

Hitting him with the sling, will make him drop the items again. Hope this helps
