Kyo Odori Miyagawa Ondo

Every April, the geiko and maiko of Miyagawacho hanamachi in Kyoto perform the Kyo Odori. The finale dance of the odori every year is the same and called the "Miyagawa Ondo".

C'est extrêmement beau, elles ont tellement de grâce et d'élégance. Je trouve dommage qu'il n'y ai pas plus de reportages sur les geishas pour que je puisse mieux les connaître. Les seuls qui sont sur KZbin ne sont pas très fiables j'ai l'impression, dans les commentaires beaucoup de gens contredisent les informations données. Yep. She's still in this profession. She's been a geiko since September 17, 2009, when she had her erikae.

I don't think it is her, since Miehina is a maiko in here and they had their misedashi at about the same time. Kikuyu should still be a maiko in this video.

+Shakir Shafiq Zainuddin It does look like her, but it doesn't fit in the timeline of erikae (leaving maiko stage). I looked at the dates and Miehina, who is still a maiko in this video, had her erikae on 17th September 2009, Kikuyu had hers in early January 2010 and Kyo Odori takes place on first two weeks of April each year. I'm just confused as to how it could be possible :-/ Maybe there weren't enough geiko, so some maiko also danced among them? I don't know...

I didn't want to post a comment until I was completely sure I was right, but Kikuyu is in this performance! This is the 2009 Kyo Odori, and Kikuyu was a very senior maiko alongside Miehina. Both girls posed for the Odori's poster that year, and I'm pretty sure you can google that poster still. As for where to spot her I stopped the video at around 5:18 and I got a clear view of her face she's in a white kimono with purple, might take a few tries to stop the video in the right spot, but that's her! Kikuyu had her erikae on December 22nd, 2009. You can also see her towards the end of the performance as she stands beside Miehina. This makes me really happy as I always wanted to see her dance at least once.

does this mean that this is the 4th year of maiko miehina? because if miehina already turned into the half white collar, why kikuyu still on wareshinobu which all of the maikos need to wear until their third year. And from what i have informed, miehina and kikuyu only months different in the sisterhood. miehina entered the hanamachi first months before kikuyu did... as you can see the documentary where kikuyu debuted, it's 2005. if this 2007, its just the third year of maiko kikuyu.

Miehina debuted in October 2004, Kikuyu debuted in November 2004, Kikuyu's documentary wasn't released until 2005. Perhaps Miehina is maybe a year older than her, and one month Kikuyu's senior, because this was just her third year, too, and she started to wear ofuku. Kikuyu was still wearing wareshinobu in this odori, so perhaps she switched to ofuku at the end of Kyo Odori 2007 or the beginning of the next year. Does that clear it up?

Rewrite: Yes, but this didn't air until between mid-2008 and early-2009. Kikuyu may have switched to ofuku before then. Some maiko switch to Ofuku sooner than they are expected to be (In several cases, Fumiyoshi, Satsuki, Momiyuki, Umechie, Kotoha, Suzuha, etc.) In that two, three-year span, both Kikuyu and Miehina were promoted from Junior to Senior Maiko.
