Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid SE Upgrade or Downgrade??

Great idea going with the A&L trailing arm kit. I have a kit on a LWB Mid plus on a SWB Ultima. Looking forwards to seeing how you get along with it.

Dude Jason I never even thought about what it might look like on an Ultima I gotta see this!! I think what bothers me most about the conversion so far is that the dang platinum shocks are just too stiff for my liking - that said they were before as well so 🤷‍♂️

Great to see all these vintage electronics, they look more “substantial” on the chassis than the modern micro receiver and ESC we have these days. The SE is already high-quality to begin with so it is hard for the Factory Works kit to beat. Some of these upgrade kits are marketed as Masami conversion kits, there’s already one for the re-re Yokomo. Carbon fiber parts always look more high-end, but sometimes I do prefer an all-metal chassis for the cool factor.

Man I got a drawer filled with what must be 50 lbs of vintage pull offs and I have no idea what to do with them - I should put them back on the cars after I get a run or two I just haven’t found the motivation to start doing that - the vintage stuff does have a lot more personality than the tiny & clean modern stuff I agree! That new yokomo looks incredible - is it on your Christmas list???

Those vintage stuff are hard to come by, they will make a good video someday. The Yokomo YZ870c is definitely on my wish list but the first batch of local arrivals has already been taken, I may stand a chance for the 3rd batch if I place a backorder now.

That’s cool man! I think I over paid to be fair but I’m glad to have the car. There was not a lot of wear, but it was, to borrow a word from Keith @ RC icons, sweaty 😄 It cleaned up alright and is ready for a rip!!!

When I was a teenager I had saved up for this over the summer and when I got it home it was missing the instructions. The hobby shop I got it from was completely unhelpful. I had to take pics from magazines and from the box to figure it out. Got it running but it was never as good as it could have been. When they rereleased the mid I jumped on it right away.

Great story David I’m impressed you even got the car operational I’m not sure I would have figured it out - in fact I wouldn’t figure it out today with no instructions 😄😄 - the diffs and shocks alone would have wrecked me!!

This version of optima was a downgrade version of the optima mid? What are the differences?

I think this version of the mid was the top end, though I’m not sure exactly what all of the differences are vs the turbo optima mid kit - shocks obviously, maybe ball diffs? By upgrade/downgrade I was referring to whether adding the trailing arm conversion kit would be considered an upgrade or a downgrade 👍
