As a reviewer, there are things that i can’t control which comes under subjective matter. 1. Your personal taste and preference 2. Your ear (Shape, size, sensitivity, ear canal diameter and path) 3. Your gear (Source of audio output) 4. Each brand’s sound signature All these factors plays a major role when you are selecting the IEM you think the best. Everyone is different and a single person can’t say what actually is the best. The best for someone can be the worst or average for another person when considering all these subjective matters. When it comes to the the objective side, it is a whole different story. The technical stuff which requires better engineering. But still there can be people who doesn’t require great technicalities (When one person needs the actual best soundstage, another person doesn’t even care about how wide the sound sounds for him/her) So, when doing a review, personally i mainly target on the objective side, highlighting its technicalities more, then giving the conclusion based on my taste and personal preference. But, still I point out how good it can be for you and for another person.

@@weirdear95 Just got the Castor standard, with the switches set at 1100. Supprisingly, I think its bass is even more boomy than my Chu 2. I can't even imagine how good the bass is on the bass boosted version 🤯. Similar to your review, I think the Castor is more technical but the Chu 2 is more musical, both are great in my opinnion. That's mainly because of their track record. They have the worst reputation in this chifi scene, mainly due to QA & QC issues. Also some false advertising. But, personally i haven’t found any issue with them and i love their products for the most part. Yes, the Castors are exceptional, Castor bass is my favourite. I think from the year 2023, they are heading towards the right direction. Hope they release more budget bangers in the future.

any comparison with the d-fi tunable version?
@weirdear95
@weirdear95 10 ай бұрын
At the moment i did the comparison i didn’t have the D-fi. But now i have them and i can give you a quick comparison. Sound quality wise, both are really good, but Castor sounds more natural, D-fi got some artificial colour to it, not in a huge amount, but when comparing with each other it is noticeable. Both the castors got better low end and treble. D-fi got better mid range. Mid range is more forward in D-fi. Technicalities wise, Castors are better options. Build quality wise, D-fi is better as it is made from metal. It looks and feels premium for the price. Overall, i prefer the Castors over D-fi, but whether you buy any of them, for the money you get insane value.

Sorry to hear about the Wan'er cable, though they are upgraded, still vulnerable for heavy use. My personal favorite IEMs are the Wan'er and this new Castor bass version. Zero is not for fun listening, it is for analytical listening. Castor Harman comes close to the Zero with some boost in energy. Castor bass and the Wan'er are definitely for fun and engaging listening. Bass version got so much low end and it is close to natural sounding. Wan'er got some color which I like personally. Zero's are great, but avoid if you looking for a fun set. My personal pick is the Castor bass version. Still love my Wan'er.

Percentage wise, how close to totl sq are budget iems getting do you think? Ask because I have my opinion and I'd say it's an answer I'm not comfortable coming to grips with, but should.
@weirdear95
@weirdear95 11 ай бұрын
I haven’t used any expensive ones yet, my most expensive one is $100. So, my knowledge on how good those $200,$500,$1000 ones sounds is null. I can't say exactly as for a percentage, but if a $100 one compared with a current $20 one, the $100 one definitely won’t perform 5 times. Can be about 2.5-3 times better. Upgrade will be mainly on the technical performance. As for the sound signature, there are a lot budget ones that sounds better than expensive ones. Expensive ones are more refined in resolution, clarity, naturalness, details, smoothness and more. Choosing the one for your preference is the most important in my opinion. Nothing else matters if it matches your sound signature. Budget ones are a good start to understanding your preference. Actually the value they deliver is insane.

i bought chu 2 because of the hypetrain from reviewers and im kinda disappointed by how it perform, is Castor Bass sounds better than chu 2?
@weirdear95
@weirdear95 Жыл бұрын
The thing with this is first of all we have to understand our preference. No matter how others says it is the best, it will depend on their taste and ear. Chu 2 is musical but shouty(elevated upper mid range 2k-4k region). That will create issues for the ones who are too sensitive. On the other hand, Castor bass is more fun and engaging. Personally i like the Castor bass over Chu 2 as it got more impactful low end. Overall Castor bass is balanced, you won’t miss anything. You can go to squiglink and compare the IEMs you want. Castor got so much low end and also got elevated 2k-4k region. As it got so much low end, that elevated upper mid range gets a good balance and doesn’t sounds shouty as the Chu 2. Always do some EQ to boost some low end and cut some highs over 3k if you are too sensitive. And also i recommend to purchase the Tangzu Sancai wide bore ear tips, they usually fix those shout issues and balances things out.

As Castor Harman is tuned for harman target, it lacks some satisfaction in music, it is accurate and clean, but less feel-full. Castor bass got the energy and it makes things more enjoyable and fun, but can be too bassy for some. But, as you asked for the genres like Pop, R&B, Funk & Soul my recommendation is the Moondrop Chu 2. It is more of a musical set and things sounds more beautiful. Can use the switches of Harman to come more closer. Wan'er is coloured, so you won’t be able to take that sound signature by EQing. If you are an android user, Use the Wavelet EQ, it is really good. Don't get them...I have a pair, plugged them into my external sound card, it was awful. They digitized, fizzled out, has minimal separation and you couldn't hear solos in songs because of how poor the drivers handled what was going on. And I wasn't driving the bass to the 2nd level, as these reviews tend to blow their load over. I boosted the mids and highs and still the upper register was lost. So if you have any cymbals going on in a song, you'll lose the rest of the song under them. And if you're jamming with music, they are AWFUL. I can't say how TERRIBLE they were for this.

@@caesarkuno5110 ok so I just got these. So here's some of my takeaways. First thing, is it's a beautiful iem. Really an eye pleaser. Looks and feels high quality. Now on to the sound. I set the switches to 1100. It's really damn good. First thing I was surprised by was the bass. I didn't expect much bass, but the bass is very nice, since you know this is supposed to be the silver non bass version, so it makes me wonder how much bass does the black castors have. It's a detailed iem. I've been testing out electronic, rock, metal, and some rap on it and I've come to the conclusion they're very damn good for music. Now, last thing I'll add is this. These require some power. So, the DAC inside my Macbook Pro makes these sound heavenly when it's wired and wireless through bluetooth testing on my KZ AZ09 pro and TRNs. But I noticed on my phone, it sorta lacks something, so just buy the $5 CX31992 or the ALC5653 dongle dac, and you'll be solid if you plan to use these on your phone. I'd say don't overthink it and just buy it, they're ridiculously cheap, you can't regret it. Also the foam tips that come with them are really nice.

Hi bro, hope you are doing good. I have a query about iems. Basically I am new in this world.. I have done some research according to my budget, came up with Kz castor (both), moondrop chu 2, 7hz zero 2, tangzu wan'er. My playlist mostly contains electronic, dance, pop & indie... And I have used sony and Sennheiser before, and like Sennheiser signature sound with mild base and overall quality. So according to you which one will suit me, completely new to this chi-fi world, but wanna have the best possible audio. Please reply.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. For your genres, wan'er matches the best due to its tighter mid bass and forward and clean mid range. It can get sharp if you are sensitive, but using narrow bore tips or eq can totally fux them.

The QKZ x HBB is great for audio. However, if you're gaming on console the mic is terrible and unless you have a mix amp or the turtle beach adapter for it's Super Human Hearing function the default sound isn't amazing for footstep audio. I've had mine for 24hrs and am returning them. Going to try the Castors as I've seen that the mic is better, if I don't like them then I'll be switching to Wa'ner.

It may depend on the source. For me as a treble sensitive person it is little fatiguing. I usually do some eq to lower from upper mid range. Then no fatigue. 0000 configuration will be problematic for you, 1100 is the one to go. Both these versions of castors are less fatiguing than the Chu 2 and 7Hz Zero as for a comparison.

Until now I used the CCA CRA for that, but the EM6L made me more apparent to its harsh trebble. Have you tried the CCA? If so, how does the Castor compare to it both in bass quantity and quality? Thank you so much❤. Yes, I have the CRA and simply the Castor is an big upgrade over the CRA and not harsh like the CRA. As you prefer both the EM6L and CRA means you are not sensitive to elevated highs. That’s awesome. As you got switches on Castor, you can always adjust the sound for your liking. If it’s too much bass, you can dial down and vice versa. Castor is one of my favourite budget IEMs personally and I highly recommend it to the ones who love to feel the engagement of their music.

Thanks for the review. I bought theese to replace my QkZxHBB because the volume on the right side had gotten low :( . They sound good but i really miss the HBBs i will continue to try them out though to make a final decision.. Although i might just grab another pair of the qkz anyway, Cheers!

Castor Harman is better for gaming. Hey, the new castor pro is released and the review posts in a few hours. I recommend to watch it, the Pro version performs better than the old castor.

I had small confusion in the video you mentioned that base had a clear sound of footsteps with pinpoint and explosions are satisfying and for Harman you mentioned gun sounds too bright and doesn't have much low end to balance out can you please clear it

hello, i just want to know if it sounds clear and the separtion is good than the wan'er? i kind of like the clean sound of zero so do you think i'll like it too? (kz castor harman silver)
@weirdear95
@weirdear95 Жыл бұрын
It won’t be that clean like the Zero as the Zero doesn’t have much low end. But, everything sounds so clean and clear on Castor Harman. Personally I like the Wan'er due to its coloured and fun sound signature. There is more treble energy on the Castor Harman that I personally have issues with, but everything sounds airy and spacious(due to the vent). Technicalities wise these doesn’t have so much differences, but your purchase decision will be based on the sound signature. Somehow the sound signatures of Castor Harman and the Zero are so similar. Buying the Castor won’t be an upgrade. Zero is slightly more cleaner than the Castor Harman. Castor have a bit more low end impact.

Which one should I go Normal or Bass variant ??
@weirdear95
@weirdear95 4 ай бұрын
If you are a bass head, get the bass version. If you don't need that much low end and need a bit more treble details, get the Harman version. For the money you spend, they are excellent. You got to choose the one for your preference.

I am somebody who listens to a lot of metal and fast tracks with a ton of instruments as well as a sensitivity to sibilance, I hate shouty signatures. What would be your recommendation if I prefer a wide soundstage, warm-neutral sound and seperation? A mic would be preferable with the iems stock
@weirdear95
@weirdear95 3 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late late reply😕. I recommend the 7hz zero 2. Also the Castor Harman version is a great choice as it comes with a mic. But it is not warm neutral but sounds so good without sibilance or shoutyness. My friend use the Ziigaat nuo and he is a metal head, but it can be too energetic in the upper range.

Castor or Chu 2 which is better in terms of overall sound staging, bass and instrument separation?

Castor Harman is the better option here. Bass version won't fit your requirements and also the Chu 2 is shouty and sibilant.

I hate how they downgraded the content of the box and removed the foamtips and only include 3 pair of white silicon tips now. Probably to reduce the cost. The IEMs are still amazing tho. and that's what matters.

Bro Tangzu waner studio edition or kz castor silver in terms of sound clarity and soundstage?
@weirdear95

Castor Harman is the best one here. Wan'er is all about fun and enjoyable sound. Tangzu as a brand don't target for the best technicalities. Casto harman tick almost every aspect. Both have different flavours, but technically, castor Harman wins.

Still the QKZxHBB is the best budget gaming set. Still unbeatable. But i don't know how it serves you as a music listening set, it is super bassy and really fun, but not my favorite sound signature for the music listening. Top notch for gaming🔥

My knowledge about cables is not that good as I have never bought third party cables till this date. If you want a better cable, i recommend you to get the Truthear Gate. That's like a hack, you get a new IEM and a great quality cable.

@weirdear95 10 ай бұрын
Hey, thank you so much and sorry for the late reply. Yep, the Castor Harman is the most natural sounding IEM under $20. It got great details and overall technicalities for the price too. As it is a neutral sounding set, the fun factor isn’t there, if you are an analytical listener, it is great. If you want the fun, go with the Castor bass or 7Hz Zero 2(which is $25). Castor bass is for bass heads and 7Hz Zero 2 is for the most balanced fun sound.
