It's a great game only held back by the poor direction of Brenden McNamara, the gameplay is basic but I mean for a game that was released in 2011 its great, it has that classic R* game DNA... La Noire has an excellent narrative with an unlikable main character and it's awesome, we see the downfall of a narc and teacher's pet that got his men killed during the war because of poor leadership

La noire is by far the best crime thriller rockstar has ever released alongside with team bondi, the 1940s settings mixed with the messed up crime scenes and a story with colm being a good detective with a bad background thrown into the world where people are corrupt was just chefs kiss.

Its a shame how underrated thid game is. It has the formula to be a really mainstream game yet it's criminally underrated. In my opinion, this is a 10/10 game. The story, gameplay everything was just perfection.

44:53 Actually, this did happen to one of the more popular suspects in the BD case. Leslie Dillon, a bellhop, fled to Oklahoma and was able to avoid extradition or questioning because his ex-wife was the cousin of then Illinois governor Adlais Stevenson the second. Adlais contacted the governor of Oklahoma, who then denied the extradition.

Master class writing from the LA Noire team. The depths they took to write the characters of Cole Phelps and Jack Kelso are something you never see in video games currently. The game shifts from Cole being the protagonist and Jack seemingly an antagonist, to the opposite. I have never seen or felt the same way about a story overall. I applause you LA Noire.

This game was the first one I ever went to the midnight release of at Gamestop and since the manager knew me well, I got a cardboard cutout of Phelps they used in the store as a bonus so to say I was a fan of the game is an understatement lol. It's still one of my favorite games Rockstar has done and your comments about the story really falling flat in the Vice section mirror how I felt playing during the original release learning about the affair and being surprised Phelps was even married (cause I didn't piece together that was him in the opening credits for whatever reason with his wife and I remember he doesn't really talk about his personal life much with his desk partners to even know he was married). The story is told really weirdly and abrupt sometimes but man if it ain't fun pressing X to Doubt crooks and a cast of Mad Men alumi. You earned a subscriber from this video, keep up the good work!

Since Malcolm in the Middle was brought up, I recognized two other actors who also appeared in the show: Steve Rankin (Archie Colmyer of Vice) played the sergeant when Reese joined the army, and Michael Chieffo (Gordon Leitvol in the Traffic case "A Slip of a Tongue") who coincidentally appears in the same episode as Hals public defender. Also the voice behind Herschel Biggs was in The Dark Knight as Gordons partner. You are welcome.

I absolutely loved LA Noire when I was younger, I was so invested and impressed by the detail in it at the time, despite some mechanics of it being a little shallow. It’s an example of a game that came just a little too early. Replaying it again recently was great too, given that Mad Men is my favourite show of all time now. Being able to pick out all the faces from the show, that at one time meant nothing to me was a blast, I believe it was the same casting director. You should definitely watch it mate.

Fantastic video and review as always Fuzzy Slippers! Just in case you didn’t know already, L.A. Noire was directed and written by Team Bondi founder Brendan McNamara, formerly of Team Soho and the director and writer of The Getaway. He also hired several former staff members of Team Soho to work at Team Bondi and on L.A. Noire. It was such a shame to see TB close shortly after the release of L.A. Noire but after reports of poor working conditions by several former employees, causing controversy for the studio and leading Rockstar Games to part ways with Team Bondi following L.A. Noire's release. As a result of this, the developer saw itself unable to sign a publishing deal for a new game that was being written by McNamara aka Whore of the Orient and instead sold all its assets to Kennedy Miller Mitchell.

Fantastic work as always! It's nice to see more videos & general discussion on L.A. Noire as of late, it's a game I find very fascinating as its unique approach to design/structure, 'motion scan' technology, and overall atmosphere is something we haven't seen replicated in any other experience in the 12 years since its launch. But it's a game that has a lot of flaws as well imo, it's story is unfocused and messy, leaving no room for deeper character exploration (e.g., we never see Cole Phillips personal life, like his wife & children), the gameplay loop leaves room for improvement, the street crimes need a lot of reworking as I think they should've been transformed into smaller police cases, etc. Also, while I actually like that this game takes a different approach to the open-world, I do think they could've done more with it, to utilize it properly, like integrating more unique interiors into cases. But despite all of its issues, I appreciate the place it holds in Rockstar's catalog, and I desperately hope they don't leave it in the dirt, because it's an IP with SO MUCH potential, imagine a sequel that takes the best ideas from L.A. Noire (e.g.,interrogations , detailed crime scenes, etc.), with an improved gameplay loop, that's closer to that of Rockstar, while still maintaining its unique atmosphere and structure, set in SF or NYC, with a more interactive world (read a newspaper, head home, more enterable locations, eating at a diner, a bar, etc.), a character driven and more focused narrative, greater gameplay diversity, a police station that acts like the camp from RDR2, where you get to know various other officers, head to your office to accept cases, with an intractable evidence room, etc., etc.

Phelps tails Elsa and that's the first time they spend the night togheter. That's the begin of their hidden relationship. Before that it was just distance flirting. The movie, instead, it's an insurace: They ALL made it so that nobody could back off. It was a mutual assure destruction device in case anyone tried something funny. It's not easy to get, but it can be understood in the game. The video it's even EDITED with shot and reverse shot! It cannot be filmed in secret. They knew it was done. Probably all of them had a copy of it somewhere. So no, the game didn't drop the ball there. PS, I thought the homicide ending to perfectly fit the theme of corruption spread throughout the game.

I feel like at the time had a movie/TV show been adapted for LA Noire, Edward Norton would've been the best idea to portray the role of Phelps and knowing how hands-on and creative of a writer Ed is, it would be a really ambitious project, I feel they should do this with a Tom and Jerry movie as well, where it's a live-action/animation hybrid movie similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the vibe of the 40s noir crime thriller

I remember in one of the street crimes there's a criminal on the roof you have to fight hand to hand and you actually have the choice to knock him out and take him in alive or you can really go nuts and throw the guy off the roof, which will make him land on top of a truck. I did both possibilities to see what the scenes looked like. The throwing off the roof option was insane though lol.

I have a lot of bittersweet memories about this game. I don't know, i played when it first came out in a friends house, we reached BD and were blown out our minds, but as good loyal friends, since we never came together (damn adult life) to the point to waste a weekend on our own, never touched the game again. He moved out of the country, so the debt of not playing the game was over, in both codes, and talked even. Bought the game in Steam, played like a man with urgency, but was blown away to the fact, the apex of the game, was the BD mission, after that it was pretty bland, lost a lot of strenght, and the ending seem like a way to make amends of why Cole was so determined to make a name for himself. I don't know, until BD one of the best games i ever played, but after that, it lost it touch with me
