I pretty much exclusively play single player games. LA Noire is not the best game I've played, but it's my favorite. This was the first narrative driven game I fell in love with and haven't looked back since. The game immerses you in its world from the beginning, the pacing is great, the story is gripping and the soundtrack is incredible. Thanks for making this ColourShed.

Yup, games like this, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, God of War, Metal Gear, The Last Gaurdian, Uncharted.... when you get done playing those, you get the satisfaction and final closure like you would from finishing a good book. Great stories.

Seems like too much work especially in third person.I like the musical chimes which briefly play when you're searching for clues. It helped with hinting where the clue is but also doing it without annoying onscreen pop-ups. Very well made.

L.A. Noire 2 needs to take place in 90's LA at the height of the crack epidemic, bloods vs crips, Hispanic gang warfare, and with the themes of LA confidential and Heat as well. Fighting heavily armed bank robbers and taking on a divided city amidst the 1992 riots would be absolutely phenomenal.

I'd like to see a Miami Noire. Where you play as an 80's undercover cop taking down drug runners while driving expensive sports cars with Phil Collins blaring in the background. Granted, you could tell me to just play GTA: Vice City again (despite it having a more Scarface-feel than MV), but I really want a true Miami Vice-style game be it with or without the license.

This is a clear look back at a seminal game. I still believe it’s the most ambitious game ever made from a narrative perspective. Pure noir. It’s hard to believe Ross Macdonald or James m Cain didn’t write it. And technically, for 2011? That amazing city is still the star. As it is in all of rockstars recent games, the real star is the world. I wish another team as crazy as Team Bondi would make another labor of love to rival this insane work of art and madness.
@AmariMarvelous

The same way LA Noire was ambitious with their narrative, is the same way Shenmue was ambitious with their atmosphere and realism to start the open world genre for it's time. LA Noire was the first game I noticed how the characters facial expression was more pronounced and emphasized.

Beat this WAY back in 2011. Got this on launch, beat it by August right before 7th grade started. Now I'm 20, finished with 2 years of college, and man does this bring back memories. Loved it then, but I'd love to replay the whole game now since I'd understand the plot and some of the jokes more. Masterpiece of a game, and 8 years later there's yet to be a game with this much depth.

Fair and wonderful review. This game is wonderful piece of Noir Detective fun. It's also a cautionary tale of ambition and game development. Because honestly it's a miracle this game even got made. Hopefully Rockstar will look past the past troubles of development to the very real positive potential in this property and see fit to give this franchise another shot. Then they'll have the full gambit: Western, School, Urban and Noir genres games!

This are the things I think they should do in the sequel: - Do it a linear game, no open world, instead give x4 amount of details. I feel like the open world only hurt the game with its silly driving and doll city - Less combat, and make it a lot more realistic and tactic - Fewer cases, but make them longer. Cases that last weeks or even months - Do it In 1950's LA playing as Jack or 1970s New York.

L.A. Noire is a brilliantly absorbing game and somehow it took me a 2nd play on the next gen console before realising that. I think the main problem with Team Bondi was they got overambitious which led to too much overtime. If you'd reduced the game to half it's size, it'd still be brilliant. They could have published all the other content via DLC or via a sequel. Noire's 1940s L.A. is enormous and rich in detail. I would love to see more games like this, it's truly a unique gem.

What I find funny about Heavy Rain is it's basically a movie, with a reasonably specific story, converted into a video game where the player defines the details of the script. That's why Madison can die so early, because she can be a red herring and a nightingale, supporting ally to the main protagonist, expositional device, or ultimate hero. If you play it enough times you can actually make conscious decisions to reshape the narrative into the best possible version of the story, in your opinion. It's like somebody's brainstorm as a video game.

I played this game with all DLCs and I really liked, but it is clear that the DLC chapters were intended to be in the game. Data mining you can find data about the DLC chapters on disc and they are seamlessly integrated in the story, it is awkward to play as separate chapters, but they are not as essential to the overall plot either. Although I liked, especially the ending, I wouldnt play again. It would be cool to talk about The Getaway, it is very flawed in many ways, but I like it too. The city is not very good for car chases, the gunplay is kinda clunky, but I think what they tried to achieve is really interesting, using only diagetic systems instead of a tradition heads-up display (HUD) .To know where to turn, car lights blink); if you need to reload the controller vibrates a little); if your health is low the suit is dirty with blood; but I highly advise to only play with the instruction manual in hand, because the game does not stop any second to explain controls and the HUD or lack of it.

They will probably do what there gonna have to do with Red Dead Redemption 3 just use another time period!. There gonna have a hard time choosing a setting for RDR 3 if they wanna use the same people and Era! What they will probably do is not limit RDR 3 and The Next Noire Game (L.A. Noire or whatever the name will be) could just be the next step in criminals for RDR 3 which would be going back to the mobster days the name Red Dead Isn't anything to do with the wild west! It would be cool to see the same area but with cartels and DEA officers in the modern day! The modern day cowboys are bikers! What I'm getting at is I'd love to see a L.A. Noire sequel showing the gangs of LA back in the 1990s like San Andreas but through a cops perspective!.

@@fuzzydunlop7928 In my opinion based review, Mafia II on a console would (to any from the naked eye) would consider it a "lackluster, sandbox attempt at GTA" just with better graphics. However, on PC with the right mod(s) (hard to achieve good ones) is a different story. The mod Friends For Life for the PC version of Mafia II is the Mafia II somebody needs to see to estimate the overall potential of the title. Although a mod breaking bug happens between 13-17 minutes each time you played it, utterly halting your experience, I still find the wrap around moments as very fun. My brother installed a "real car name" mod and we drove a 2000 Hp GMC 1-ton truck into cars at 180+ and watched them fly around. Real fun due to the loose physics. In my opinion, if you can file mod give the utterly hopeless Mafia II a try. A good challenge is to estimate how long until a virus lumps your game into a mess. But if you achieve good enough estimations and get the right mods, then congrats you are now going to have fun with it. Mafia III I'm still estimating as I've only recently began playing it.

One clarification at 29:00 . The outcome does actually change a bit depending upon what you do. If you find the knife at the crime scene the first time, the ending has the suspect killing his female accomplice and then fleeing and being either arrested or killed. If you miss the knife on the first time then the ending has you confronting him at the bar, and his female accomplice isn't killed. So technically at least for the case, your decision does affect the outcome.

This is a great game, I just wish the ending was better. I imagine the ending being where you discover who’s behind it all, and Cole enlists the help of all of his partners(except Roy) to help him and jack bring them down. While in the sewers Cole and Roy get into a shoot out, and you get the potion to kill him yourself or try and bring him in. If you try to bring him in though, Roy tackles you and says “I knew you were too good a cop Cole!”, then jack kills him and say “I’m not you piece of shit!” then Cole jack along with Bekowski and rusty are shooting their way through the sewers and save Zelda. And they are cornered by the chief but they get the evidence, kill him and where Cole sacrifices himself to save everyone. Eventually most are arrested but we still get a hint of something brewing.

The linearity could have been leveraged by dropping the open world and making it a more confined point and click game, it would have helped with the blu-ray storage and workload and would benefit the story more. Of course this would mean losing the recreation of Los Angeles and the mainstream appeal of being an open world game.

2 things I would like to add - there are too many overarching narratives in the vanilla game. Aside from the Traffic Desk, all the other cases are connected to another one and it gets annoying if you want to play the cases as episodes because they are not self-contained cases. Also, you mentioned how Phelps can use phones to call dispatch or whatever to obtain information on specific topics. These usually take a few seconds. That's a missed opportunity at doing some real detective work; in real life, at the time LA Noire is set, cross checking these information would take hours, even weeks in some cases. There were no desktop computers back then.

Australia has some pretty good Dev teams. I especially respected Melbourne House as they were the guys behind the Transformers armada game on the PS2, which I simply loved. I'm pretty sure they've gone under now, but still they made a belter of a game nonetheless.

I actually enjoyed the game on my 360. Was surprised when the company went bankrupt, yet again I wasn’t so into game news at the time, maybe lots of people knew at the time what was happening

It's a game that better be played one mission a week, cuz it feels too repetitive if played back by back. But if you open it once a week, it feels more like a cops TV show from the childhood.

As a history buff I really love the setting and atmosphere in this game but I I have never really managed to get into the detective aspects simply cuz I'm too impatient for it although I would love to play another game set in this timeperiod.

I'd love to see N.Y. Noire! I've also said for a while I'd like to see other games in the GTA 5 reality but show other aspects of life like Liberty City Boys In Blue! Or Los Santos PD, Vice City Vice Squad something with a fresh prospective so you can feel the world being fleshed out more! That's the problem with sports games if they would just put a game out every 3-5 years and just update it people would go nuts for it!.

What version of this game you are having? The last update that come last year, it very polish, I only find one of two glitches, mostly relocation ones were cars or citizens appear from nowhere, but other than that, the game was fine.

In the Steam version you can enable free cam like in GTA IV. It's much better for driving if you're used to IV.

Loved this game (had the Greatest Hits version at first, then got The Complete Edition, which was really the way to go for me in 2013) , and yes, I did get a kick of running over Roy Earle:-).

L.A Noire is a love letter to the noir genre of the american film medium in the 40´s, mainly, and film history. Said that I believe or at least feel like this game is more as an interactive audiovisual experience, which it´s focus is this big reference to this time of history and film; because of that I don´t think the gameplay elements, where the game lacks quality, reduce the overall grandiosity of this work of art.

do you ever plan on reviewing Max Payne 3? im curious on what you think of it considering how mixed the reception is from fans and how its one of RockStars least talked about games it was as expensive and has a development story as crazy as any gta or Red Dead game and the game has also been ignored by RockStar too its the only game they made in the 7th generation of gaming that isn't playable on XB1 or PS4 and I doubt RockStar has any plans on making a remastered version

I just got a ps3 slim the other day from Craigslist and I had to go to my local game exchange and got like 15 games for only 40 bucks. There’s still so many I want to get. I say if you wanna get a cheap and affordable system to play old games and plus get big backlog of games for cheap you should do it now before it becomes harder to find games that haven’t been ported and stuff

Number one on my list of games you cannot play when you are tired or not able to pay 100% attention. A Deep game not for those out for action only. Immersion for history buffs, add it and most assassins creeds, for teaching history in school.

if you liked LA Noire and want maybe a little more understanding of how the story is designed and why it ended the way it did, you really aught to read James Ellroys LA Quartet; The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, and White Jazz.
