This may just be the most beautiful piece I've ever heard. The voice!
@hansnieuwenhuis69983 жыл бұрын
I heard him first, many years ago in New York where he auditioned for me It was immediately clear to me that Jakub is a unique singer with a voice from heaven. But also a great performer and a sensitive artist. It was before he started his studies at Juilliard. I expected a beautiful career and am happy that is what happened. He brings back the glorieus music of the 17th and 18th century, as it was created for the great Farinelli and Senesino. Listening to Jakub reminds me of the story of Orfeo, who sang so beautiful that he brought his fiancée Eurydice back to life from the Underworld..

@@robbiewilliams2123 what a ridiculous thing to say, missing the whole poetic and aesthetic value of the initial comment (let alone the singer himself) and the "nothing more" is simply false. I think you completely miss the conversational implicatures involved.

The beauty of the lyrics just adds to the beauty of the music! Here are the lyrics: I saw two bright stars fall from the sky; Love picked them up and placed them on my beloved’s face. A lover may burn happily in the light of two fair eyes, and in his constancy offer that light the gift of his own heart. But let no other lover hope to seduce with the beauty of two other sparkling eyes the eyes that have caused me to fall in love. I saw two bright stars fall from the sky; Love picked them up and placed them on my beloved’s face. Beneath the arch of a fair brow two sapphires will shine as they gaze around, making every danger alluring. And Love counsels in vain that fair eyes so serene must never burn full of fire like the look that I desire. I saw two bright stars fall from the sky; Love picked them up and placed them on my beloved’s face

Jakub is clearly on his way to becoming one of the most important voices of his generation. The effortless precision of his technique is extraordinary, yet never eclipses the authenticity of his emotional sensitivity to the material. Castrati were the rock superstars of their time. Orlinski is a superstar, and brings excitement and creates relevancy for baroque countertenor music within our contemporary culture.

Castrati did the soprano voices though. Dunno how that's relevant. Countertenors were as common for mezzo and alto voices as castrati for soprano voices and in secular music much more common. Castrati were never particularly common, which added to their fame and mystique. And I would like to note to anyone who might think otherwise that he's far from the only countertenor, though Jakub is quite skilled. To share the fame, look into: Tim Mead, Andreas Scholl, Philippe Jaroussky and Matthew White for starters.
@voynaimir34 жыл бұрын
@@nextlifeonearth Thanks for this information regarding countertenors and castrati and the differences and frequency of their existence. I am late to the current trend for baroque and countertenor music. Have always loved the baroque period but got caught up in other non-musical matters in last few years. So by accident I came upon Jakup Josef Orlinski a few days ago when I was checking out Christina Pluhar's ensemble, and was very impressed. Up to than Philippe Jaroussky to my mind had the most beautiful and skilled countertenor voice. Andreas scholl I liked also. But Mead and White are new names to me. I will check them out, now that I seem to be totally hooked again on classical music with a special love for the baroque period.

@@voynaimir3 To me music is a large part of my life, despite never making a profession out of it, I try to learn any instrument I can get my hands on for instance. I love meeting people with the same passion or even a mild interest in early music especially (baroque and earlier). Sometimes it's a matter of getting in the community to stay informed on a topic, and early music is no exception (though the online communities aren't nearly as large or advanced as those of other genres). If you're into HIP (love this acronym; Historically Informed Performance) Bach, you'll love the All Of Bach project by the Netherlands Bach Society. They try to play all pieces and upload a high quality video every week or so-often with a commentary video on the side. You get some exposure to new performers every so often.

There is no question that Orlinski is the countertenor voice of his generation. There are other great voices out there but nobody can beat Orlinski for his beautiful tone, unfailing technique and perfect diction. He has brought Marazolli's music to life after all these years being unknown. Credit needs to be given to Christina Pluhar and her versatile ensemble, l'Arpeggiata for their sensitivity in recreating this music and breathing life into it
