He leído las diversas opiniones que en esta pagina han escrito y por supuesto hay quienes tienen el conocimiento apropiado para expresarlas, pero lo contradictorio es la descalificación a tenores que con su maravillosa voz han efectuado excelentes interpretaciones. El gran Tenor Camarena nos gusta porque además de poseer una voz privilegiada y perfecta técnica, posee el don de expresar con sentimiento lo que la letra quiere transmitir. Es mi opinión que a los Compositores de las Operas, además de esperar de quienes las interpretaran, no solo dispusiesen de la excelente técnica y voz, sino además, pudiesen transmitir el sentimiento, y así expresar correcta y maravillosamente la obra escrita. Por ello me fascina el Tenor Javier Camarena

Well along with Mr Grigolo I have now found another tenor to put my hope in for the next 15 to 20 years, hopefully!!! I heard Mr Camarena's voice for the first time only 30 minutes ago and I am BLOWN AWAY by his artistry! A very similar voice-type and timbre to Mr Florez, but a THOUSAND times MORE expressive and interpretive than Mr Florez has ever been! Bravo Mr Camarena!

Javier Camarena is an excellent singer and you may prefer him to Juan Diego Florez but saying that he is THOUSAND times more expressive or "interpretive" (ridiculous term, by the way) than JDF is an absurd exaggeration. Man, you have fallen into idolatrous ecstasy! The interpretation of Mr Camarena is a bit "cheap" to me, not only here... This is a matter of taste, of course, but MEASURE - this is what is crucial in the art of belcanto. JDF is always elegant which cannot be said about Mr. Camarena. And where have you been so far if you heard Camarena for the first time two months ago? Camarena have already sung in Metropolitan and this year he has celebrated the 10th anniversary of the beginning of his career. And listen awhile to JDF's interpretation of this aria performed at the Viener Staatsoper in September this year!

Songelosodelzefiro I am completely out of the mainstream of operatic live performances since I retired 10 years ago and so have no idea of what is happening in the USA or European scene and as I happen to hear a new singer on YT (new for me that is) I comment on them. You may find the term interpretive ridiculous and that's your own opinion that really doesn't interest or concern me one way or the other. If you were a singer or a musician you might understand what it means. Your opinion of my "absurd exaggeration" is also, once again, just YOUR opinion and I will continue to express mine whether or not you may find them absurd. I find Mr Florez boringly the SAME from aria to aria, performance to performance, rather like a male counterpart to Dame Joan. Possessed of a fine instrument and technique, yet for me sadly lacking in interpretive abilities, the innate ability to play oneself into the spirit and soul of the music and the character and becoming one with the spirit and soul of the composer. Having now listened to countless performances on YT of Mr Camarena, I fail to find anything that is NOT elegant in the performances posted and on the contrary I find his legato line PARTICULARLY elegant. If his interpretation is cheap (in your opinion) I'll take cheap EVERY TIME! Each aria is different and for me there is an excitement in what and how he performs, rather than a boring predictability that I find with MOST performances of Mr Florez. Now and then Mr Florez DOES actually surprise me, but that is a rarity, and I'll go along with idolatrous ecstasy any time if it means an exciting, vibrant performance stemming from an innate, ridiculously-termed (to you, that is) INTERPRETIVE ability.

I think there is only one conclusion coming from our discussion: We have different tastes, what is exciting for you isn't exciting for me, though I willingly admit that Javier Camarena made a great progress during past years. I think the point is that he and JDF have different voices. Camarena undoubtedly has richer voice than JDF, more "rounded", while JDF's voice is rather monochromatic, of a very intensive timbre and unusual, ravishing beauty in most registers. On the stage JDF is hypnotizing which - IMHO - cannot be said about Mr Camarena. Of course exceptional physical beauty also helps JDF but if he had not been such an amazing vocal and musical talent he wouldn't have been such a great operatic star but maybe a male glamour model...

voce bellissima. à questo livello qualsiasi tenore deve sapere di cantare legato e con una intonazione giusta... nei pianissimi questo bravo giovane tenore perde posizione e la sua voce bella diventa stonata. intonazione poco precisa. tecnica poco adatta à questa voce magnifica. bravo per la bellezza della voce.

I love Camarena's voice. I just thought in this aria, his usual clarity, breath control, evenness, pitch, and timbre were lacking. It might have been this particular aria or he may very well been having a bad day.

He is a very competent singer but here he is singing simply badly - he can't keep legato line, at times sings out of tune and there is too much vibrato in his singing. Obviously that wasn't his best day.

To me this aria is a bit "overinterpreted" here, this is probably the background of the very intensive and annoying vibrato which is rather rare in Javier Camarena's other renditions. By the way, he has made a great progress over last decade and some of his renditions available on YT are really impressive!
