@@seentian That’s our Sg National Pledge which we recite every morning in school. We cherish and uphold it. “We the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic security based on justice and equality, so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.” 🇸🇬🇸🇬
Singapore ‘can’ because we regard ourselves firstly as Singaporean then follow by our individual race. In Singapore, we are all Singaporean regardless of our race and religion. The Singaporean Chinese will address ourselves as 新加坡人 and not 海外华人. 我们不是什么海外华人, 我们就是新加坡人. This identity recognition is prevalent amongst the 4 major races in Singapore since after independence.

Almost half of our population are foreigners. Where is our very own Singapore? Do observe the behaviour of the so-called foreign talents & workers especially from India and Indians from Malaysia.. 'Regardless of race", this, they are not educated this way.. Don't be naive!

Unfortunately our Singapore has been accepting just any one and any thing into our country.. Irrelevant and unnecessary people from outside... The foreign labour policies needs to be revised..

It appears that many sinkies in the comment section misunderstood this Mr. Liu. He seems to suggest that he can improve the position of the chinese diaspora in Dutch society by taking a leaf out of LKY's book. But the fact is, the number of people who identify themselves as "chinese" or "of chinese descent" account for barely 1% of the Dutch population. Not to mention that LKY was trying to create a national identity through institutions established by the British.
We do not see crows and pigeons blending together although they are both birds. A migrant to blend with the majority locals in a foreign land, is a 2 way traffic. A migrant's face, skin colour, etc. are God made, which any local is obviously clear to see the differences and to prejudice. It is not as simple as learning to eat burger, drinking beer, etc. to make a migrant accepted. The black and white in America are always 2 different races to have prejudice and discrimination forever. Once a person root is lost, he or she will belong nowhere and perhaps lonely.
The pioneer generation was largely uneducated and poor. Lee Kuan Yew govt gave free education to everyone, every child, free school fees, free textbooks. It is the educated children of this uneducated pioneers who actually built up modern Spore. We are lucky and blessed to have such a leader bringing us out of British and Japanese controls. UK did not talk of democracy when they ruled us and Hong Kong. UK did not control the gangsters in charge of police departments , who collected protection money from the British Subjects.

國藉與民族血統是有一定不同的地方、它們不能一體並論的。新加坡現在不是提升華文的地位嗎?

不是新加坡在提升华文的地位,而是华文在国际的运用上提升了!

I also laughed nonstop when people like you who could only resort to attacking anything and everything positively said by others about Singapore and her leaders not with intellectual counter arguments but with sweeping statements spoken as a fake Singaporean. You are just like the hundreds of pitiful internet trolls out there who don't know what to do with a life that sucks. I offer my sincere condolences.

So you DIE laughing ?? If LKY books are only for Singapore, then why are they selling abroad??
@@city-freeman Exactly. The host has mentioned 海外华人 numerous times in his 9mins speech. How can one have the Dutch identity if one kept reminding themselves as overseas Chinese, an outsider, an immigrant from another country and not a part of the Dutch community. Don’t think his speech has much persuasive power to get other Dutch Chinese to immerse in Holland society and see themselves as Dutch first & foremost in Holland.

你说的有道理。所以应该怎么统称“海外华人”这个大群组才对呢?

Could you kindly enlighten me on how I should refer to 'overseas Chinese'? You have a point here, I agree with you.

No, no, my question is not referring to Dutch Chinese only. I mean - "overseas Chinese" 海外华人 but dont include China Chinese. So what term shall we use? I am also thinking about this lately. I refer to荷兰华人 whenever i mentioned about Chinese in The Netherlands and i used it very often if you watched my other videos. However if we want to refer to all chinese living all over the world outside China, what shall we say? This is my question. 🙏
