Excellent analysis of the 'cancel culture' in the new 'film criticism' community. Several characteristics are noted by Dir. Shu Kei: 1. Serious lack of understanding of (Hollywood) film (and social) history among 'new', especially KOL-type of film critics; 2. The lack of will, patience and knowledge to analyze films (even for reputable, serious filmmakers) outside 'conventional framework'; 3. The strong wish to say 'STRONG OPNION' - either VERY GOOD or VERY BAD in a video film criticism, so as to attract 'eyeballs', audiences - sophisticated, lengthy, historical analysis drove too many ordinary audiences away. This kind of fast-food film criticisms are actually not film criticisms. They are noises; but unfortunately they have huge impact, at least short-term wise. I agree, this is happening in HK too. That is why Shu Kei's review here is so important to many of us. Thanks!
