thanks for the vid and the tips -- but i disagree with the dielectric grease in the coil. apparently the previous owner did this and LOADED dielectric grease in there. from my understanding, you should use it lightly around the rubber, but not anywhere within the connection between the spark plug and ignition coil. correct me if i'm wrong though
@CentTxLiving2 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct, you should only use a light film. Also, remember I was living up North with a lot of snowfall and all the extreme cold weather issues. So, we had to do things a little bit differently just to keep our cars functioning.

Is it possible to have a misfire with no engine light?
@CentTxLiving Жыл бұрын
Considering the fact that it's a Range Rover, yes I do believe it's possible. But it might be the spark plug or the coil, or you could have a knock sensor not doing its job.

OK just asking, believe it or not a 3rd of my audiences is in the UK. If you have already changed and checked all of these spark plugs and coil packs, then it might be time to do a compression test and a leak down to find the miss. Unfortunately, if you find the miss this way that usually means you have a piston or a valve gone.

Do you have handy place to find the torque specifications for tightening the spark plugs?
@CentTxLiving2 жыл бұрын
I always used the hand tight, then a quarter turn method. As long as you crush the aluminum washer, you should be good to go. Also, some aluminum or copper paste on the threads are a good idea in my opinion.

It's my pleasure. I don't recall the code, but it led me directly to the coil pack.

Was the diagnosis by sound or did you use your RSW software to detect the misfire? Thanks again for your knowledge share.
@CentTxLiving4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I got the check engine light and I could feel the misfire. The rsw software verified it and gave me a good starting point- plugs or coils.

Do you know If the valve body on the transmission fit the 06 ford explorer and bmw. Trying to buy one used with tcu
@CentTxLiving4 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, that's one of the Land Rover specific performance requirements I believe. Although I do use Mercon sp trans fluid. It may be that the valve body is the same but the solenoids are different. I honestly have no idea, I just replaced the solenoids, hall gasket and the tubes and my trans was good. I wish you well.

Mine is asking me to replace spark plug 7 should i replace all of them or just number 7
@CentTxLiving3 жыл бұрын
Switch the coil pack with another cylinder to isolate that out of the equation, then I would replace just that one unless your close to having them all changed. Also, if it is the plug and not the coil, be sure to really scrutinize why it failed just to be sure you don't have an internal problem brewing.

Hello I hope if u can help me I have 2010 RR sports supercharged, I have check engine light on the code was engine misfire I have replaced the spark plugs but the code come back again, I feel engine lose power just one time then I restart I got full power back from engine, do u know what would be the issue.
@CentTxLiving4 жыл бұрын
The code may be due to ignition coils. I would recommend to have the codes read with an OBDII code reader and focus your search from there. The code reader will also give you the opportunity to reset the check engine light, so if it comes on again you'll know exactly why. I hope this helps, and thanks for the comment.

Hi im on the market looking for one, what should i look first to see if its a good purchase? Thanks!
@CentTxLiving4 жыл бұрын
Well, not to sound too generic, but a good service history is always ideal. Next will depend on what part of the world you're in; the early versions had a BMW petrol, or diesel. The diesel ones were good I hear [we don't get them 🤬]. If you in north America like me, I would look for an 07 or newer, that would give you the jag engine and terrain response. I bought mine with 115k miles on it, so a higher mileage car shouldn't be an issue - with proper service. And the air suspension should last at until about 180k miles before they need to be repaired. Other than that, get the best example you can and opt for the pre-purchase inspection just to gain some peace of mind. If you would like further details, please feel free to contact me.

@@CentTxLiving thank you very much! Yes im in south Texas, i found one’s 2007 with 180k $4700 but i have only have BMW’s i know nothing about Land Rover
@CentTxLiving4 жыл бұрын
With that mileage, I would pay close attention to the drive train, in particular the transmission. The zf6hp26 is a very good transmission imo, but you may need to verify the shift actuators and the hall gasket have been replaced, or it at least performs as designed for now. Mine were replaced at 150k and the trans works great. Other than that, the drive train should be checked for slop/ leaks and the usual belts, hoses and such. I hope this helps, being a shotgun blast of info and all. Lol.

You never covered how to diagnose which coil was bad. I’m guessing it’s just swapping coils, but my ‘09 is driving me nuts!!!
@CentTxLiving2 жыл бұрын
Yes, switch the coil pack to another cylinder and see if the misfire follows it to that cylinder, then you'll know if it's the coil. If the problem stays in the cylinder, then you should pull the spark plug and check it. It wouldn't be a bad idea to look in a bad cylinder with a borescope camera. My philosophy is that if one spark plug is bad, change them all, unless they have very low mileage on them.

Hi. I have a 2006 RRS 4.2 supercharger. It's also converter to LPG so it starts on petrol and then switched to LPG. I had an issue with the engine management light coming in and a loss of power (limp mode). After switching coils around it was diagnosed as having two bad coils. These were replaced however the code P0316 is reading on the diagnostics stating (engine misfire detected). Rather than pour money into this without knowing the problem would you have any help in confirming what the issue is. Your help is very much appreciated.
@CentTxLiving4 жыл бұрын
My first guess would be to check the spark plugs, in particular the two that correspond with the bad coils. If you are near the point of requiring the spark plugs to be replaced, this could be an opportune moment to complete that task. If the spark plugs appear to be fine, that I would move on to the injectors for both the LPG and the gas (petrol). If those appear to be fine, then you would have to start diagnosing the Ignition sensors and possibly the ecu itself. I would recommend you start small with what you can easily check, and build-up from there. I hope this helps, and I wish you well with your situation. Thank you for the comment.

I can't remember if it was Bosch or Denso. I would stick to name brand parts suppliers for these, especially considering i have only replaced one in 184k miles. Thanks for the question.
