Frank Zappa "Oh No" & "Son of Orange County" (A Token of His Extreme) First Time Reaction

My first ever Zappa video I did on here was from this show (A Token of His Extreme) and I wandered back to it... and siked that I did. I keep on finding new things to love about Frank's work. A year later and I still don't know nuffin' bout this muffin man.

That is hard because like the moon it goes in phases. I'd say maybe Ike Willis and Bobby Martin. For song suggestions I recently bought philly 76 and it's a pretty rare moment in Zappa history I'd check out the version of "you didn't try to call me" "wind up working in a gas station" or the best yet but on the longer side "black napkins"

I'm 69 and I've been in love with Ruth since about 1973. And George Duke, altho not in the same way. The Roxy era band is my favorite. It may not be technically the best, but I love the the chemistry of this band. And I played the Roxy & Elsewhere over and over and over again. Beautiful guitar solos thruout.

Favorite recurring character - the poodle. The name of the poodle changes depending on the show (Frunabulax, Frenchie, various others) but one thing is for sure. The poodle bites, the poodle chews it.

This was a post i made on facebook in 2012 about this video I love the ethereal guitar sound in this especially during the transition between songs @ 1:40, also just an awesome range of styles during the improv jam @ 3:55 leading up to the composed section at the end. I would say there is a lot of music as good as Zappa but I'm not sure that there is anything better. "All your love, will it save me? All your love, will it save the world from what we can't understand?"/ "I just can't believe you are such a fool."

I read somewhere that Oh No was written as a sort of rebuttal to John Lennon/Beatles "All you need is love" and the like in the Beatles catalog. Also that it was repurposed to be aimed at Richard Nixon.

Dweezil's ZPZ band did a live DVD with Napoleon Murphy Brock back in 2008 that included Oh No, Son of Orange County, which segues into Trouble Every Day. A must-listen-to / watch.

With the same band, and some of the same material is the live Roxy And Elsewhere, which also has the technically difficult "Echidna's Arf (Of You)"/"Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?" (which is really one 13 1/2 minute song), the X-Rated "Penguin In Bondage", and the humorous "Cheepins".

One annoying Frank Zappa song involved his daughter Moon Unit and became a huge hit in 1982-Valley Girl. You could not escape it on the radio-my sister absolutely hated the song and would turn off the radio when it came on. My favorite Zappa Character would be Son of Orange County and perhaps Joe's Garage.

You have to look hard to find a more inventive composer than Frank. It's amazing to think about qualifying to be in the band, which almost certainly meant you'd be broke as long as you were in it, BUT... you'd be playing the most demanding music with the most amazing musicians
