One of there best set closers in their catalog. Fan favorite. I love it. Again I recommend Fluffhead. It recommend the Hampton March 6 2009. They had been on hiatus since 2004 and hadn’t played the beloved song since 2002. In 2009 they returned. When you listen to this show, you will notice that they open with Fluffhead, incidentally for the first time in 18 years and only opening with it five total times up to that point. The audience immediately knows what song it is in a few notes. That joy expressed in that song after what was thought to be a forever breakup, was immeasurable. Highly recommend ❤️

Keep going with A Live one. If you really want to get twisted try stash. Or the beauty of Harry Hood. I think you'd like Wilson too. A short rocker. If you like the Prog then go ahead and Jump into the goat : You Enjoy Myself. You're gonna love Stash and Harry Hood. Stash is exceptional tension and release, the one they chose for A Live One, 7/8/94, is still the best one they've played. You Enjoy Myself is a Zappa-esque composition that is a main reason their original second guitarist quit the band, as it signaled an insane level of complexity in their new music. I remember a transcription of it in Guitar Player years ago started off with 46 different chords Trey uses throughout. The Bass and Drum breakdown will give you an idea of how good Gordo is on the bass.

I've heard people say over the years that "A Live One" is an album for fans, implying that it is perhaps not the best for new listeners. With the exception of the Tweezer on this album, I couldn't disagree more. You can argue about better versions of the songs on this album from different shows over the years, but that misses the point. ALO captures Phish in their element and their prime like no other Phish album does. And it's not just the band itself, it's the sound quality on the album. Far too many live Phish recordings make the band sound like they're playing in a fishbowl. ALO sounds like you're in the arena and captures the crowd energy of that era. As a fan who had the privilege of seeing shows in the 90's, if I put ALO on in the car and turn up the volume, I'm instantly transported back to a cold fall night going to an east coast arena to see the band. For those who couldn't experience that, ALO is the next best thing.
