Darn nice explanation of the Dual Clutch r@r I've seen. FMC has got a bad rap on this setup and like shown it was the bearing that failed. It also looks like the Bean Counters were hanging around the trans. designing rooms. I saw a lot of cheap sections of that clutch that could be greatly improved on. Thanks for taking the time to film this.

It's not just Ford it's the engineering and not taken the time to test it and make sure it was read. Thanks to being made in Ireland and trying to copy VW. But ford had to push it if you looked into it all. I'm ASE Certified in Ford, Mazda, BMW and Audi. I tell you I see more of these now then I did ever. I have one guy that works with me that likes working on these. He fixed the one I had but let's just say replaced everything. And my BMW hasn't missed a best, and it's a Track car. But when these trans n clutches n actuator and motors n TCM is right it's a good trans. I seen some go 150k, idk who or when people did there tranny fluid aka 2 qts every 30k. But some I driven in mostly needed top motor mounts, dash, climate control sensors, and sync system upgrades or replacements or new fobs for push to start ones

Tip: if you drop the transmission, be careful with the electrical wiring connected to the casing when you’re moving it around. I damaged the wiring to one of the speed sensors and pulled my hair out for 2 weeks trying to figure out what the problem was.

On number 3 with the help of ur videos. Currently having a issue, had bad "b" fork, took everything out and replaced. Will not learn now using forscan... I have the cheap forscan adapter so ordered one that supposed to work. It drives and shifts fine however it doesnt always start off in 1st gear and sometimes makes a weird noise up shifting and down shifting. Almost like a buzzing noise. U ran into this before?

Great video. I’m a dealer in Spring (Houston) Texas. Just did our first Focus DCT. It needed clutch fork “A” replaced. I disassembled it he broken clutch fork just to see what was going on. Looks like there was a really small bearing inside that let go. So tiny ball bearings were getting jammed in the screw as it was turning causing it to get stuck. Thanks for your video. Was very helpful.

Really nice to see this. I have Mondeo Diesel and I purposely bought older traditional 6-speed turbine transmission model. It now has 625 tkm's on clock. I've heard so much bad stuff about PowerShift models, but now seeing it torn apart I'm getting really, really strong vibe that it's not that bad. Reason being that I've always thought it's wet clutch assembly. Now realizing it's dry pack and that it has to be mostly issue of dust ingress it might afterall work especially for like me that drives 90% to work it's like few full stops and almost fully driving in highway. Also now I realize that most seem to try to fix/maintain their PowerShifts by changing oil excessively, which in turn does absolutely nothing with that dust issue which for sure is going to be problem quite early in city driving or trying to crawl vehiclle low speeds like old turbines. I'm actually now curious if that my turbine six speed is actually pretty much identical gearing wise... If it is, well that oil changing is indeed pretty much useless to do, can't hurt obviously. Damn and there would be one "sold for repairs" PowerShift Diesel Ford for pretty damn cheap. It's getting tempting to buy it and try to fix it. Are those actuators and was it TCM module parts expensive as from what I understood they can also fail? Just read more about that care between writing this and it says "rattle near transmission" so it's quite certain that it's that bearing assembly or clutch assy that's gone wrong. Thanks for the very interesting video 👍👍

Don't think I commented here before, but seeing this video again, looks like the same issue I have with my 16 focus... Clutch needs replacing since its over 100k anyway, but before having the issue I was having random electrical problems. Started to have no reverse at first and suddenly nothing. Car only goes up to 10MPH (Was jerking at first like it wanted to get to another gear) The electrical issues where I turn off the car and all power is lost is suddenly not happening after taking the battery terminals off and on again. TCU relearn seems to fail when it gets to the Select gears on forscan. Hopefully this is the only issue, and its not something else further inside. I was also able to see the clutch touchpoint from seeing live data from the TCU. It's around 3.00mm. Also had codes for Actuator B circuit/performance. Replaced that and live data shows position -200. One time it looked like it was at a better number, but went back to that. Plus A not calibrated.

I think Ford has an updated recall again on TCM. But u doing the fluid's 20-30k? One I worked on had 150k and not even a qt in it and blacker then oil. And light was on. I have been watching all your focus videos. I picked up a 2016 focus 2.0 with the dual clutch. It has no reverse and slipping. First thing I did was check the forks are in good working order, they are. Then I swapped the actuators around from A to B and B to A. Still no reverse. And it seems to lag when going do drive. It had codes P0900 & P0805 & P806. So I’m wondering with swapping actuators and get no change. What would you look at next? Car does have 199xxx and it appears to have never been opened. Or at least by dealer as it don’t have updated sticker. With almost 200k it’s probably wouldn’t hurt to pull and out new clutch in it. But does this point to mechanical failure ie: bearing inside or TCM in your opinion.

I recently bought a new battery and a new negative battery cable from the ford dealer for my 2012 Fiesta. The motor instantly was out of tune and seemed to be hunting between too rich and too lean. I drove the car for a few days and it wouldn’t get better. When I put back the original battery cable the problem went away. I put the new cable back on to see what was wrong with it. Using a cold cranking tester to apply a load on the cable assembly I found out the crimp on the negative battery side was not making a good connection. The connection would become worse when you wiggle on the cable wire. After using a propane torch to solder that connection the problem went away. For good measure I soldered both ends of the cable wire. The transmission has never worked as well as it works now.

How much “clutch” does a new clutch have? I’m looking at my current clutch. It has about 2-3mm on each clutch pad. Trying to figure out how much life it has left. Has about 111k on it if the miles hadn’t been rolled back.

Hi again. Installed all and within approx 5 minutes I got the transmission is hot, wait 5 minutes message. It does feel as if the clutch is slighgly slipping. Would this be a reasonabke assumption? Should I open the "gearbox" side of the transmission? Do you have a video on this? Many thanks for your patience

Thanks for sharing knowledge. Can you tell where I can buy spline socket? My 2014 almost a year out of service, dealer said TCM bad. Service rep said Ford will not be making new TCM's. My scanner said clutches stuck. Don't know what to do. 2014 Ford Focus hatchback SE 78,000 miles in nice condition. Please advise.

Okay, so I replace the clutch set with a new set…it’s already set so I wouldn’t need the reset tool I’ll just need to release the clutch through the actuators using the 14 turns…but after reinstall, will I need to reprogram or use a two way communicator to reset or relearn…?? Or will the TCM take care of that on its own……now, will it be the same answer if I don’t have to replace the clutch set and reinstall original….I’m lost as to when fort needs to reset or relearn the transmission.

I have a '16 Focus titanium. It just turned 100k miles. I got a code PO7A5. Saw some vids on replacing the actuators. I did with direct from Ford parts and $200 labor for a total of $500. It wasn't a trans shop so they would not take on the R&R procedure. It is not totally fixed. I am still getting crunching sounds from the forks. No codes so far but honestly I am afraid to drive and getting stuck 1500 miles from home. When I was younger I would have tried to fix it myself by at my age I can't turn a wrench much anymore. I am in Wisconsin right now and headed back to Florida where I live. I am hoping it will still go into neutral for towing behind my rig. I have called all the places around where I am for 50+ miles and either they want nothing to do with working on it or can't get me in for a month or more. Wondering if you'd work on mine or worse case you want to buy it? I'd come to your place. Call me if you can help an old guy out. I am really at the end of my rope with this thing. Thanks

Hey i think the reason you were having trouble with the final circle tool sticking when resetting the clutch is because it was upside down when you were using it. I did the same thing. Till i figured it out. if you look on the tool there is a bigger square tooth which grabs the shark tooth on the clutch. if the tool is upside down the square tooth on the tool is behind the shark tooth instead of in front of it to grab it. and Also i tried to reset mine and i cant get all the tabs to go into their holes in the final reset with the bigger circle tool. Most went in but not all. i tried it multiple times and it didnt work. does that mean my clutch is wore?

I can't get two of the lower inside B tabs on the clutch to click in position. It is the two middle ones out of the four that are right next to each other. I am using the exact same tool. Will the reset still work like this? Do you need every single tab clicked into position? Is there a method to get them one at a time? Thanks.

It’s ok if they don’t all click in. But you can also take a screwdriver and tap that 1 or 2 in with a hammer.

I just put my clutch in and I'm worrying about how I aligned up the mark on the flywheel and the triangle on the clutch. Is there anyway to see it without splitting the transmission away to verify its in the correct spot. If it's not how important is it to pull them apart again and align them up? Thanks for any help!

Same question here, 171k 2017 focus slips evry other gear. Likely just a new clutch will fix her. Don't have a fancy span-on scan tool either. Do you need to reset the clutch counter, or the car will figure it out on its own?

Great video. I have a 12 focus. I am planning to swap the transmission from a parts car. Do I have to “reset” the clutches? I’m hoping to just remove trans and drop in the new. I’m not going to be touching the clutch assembly, if I don’t have to. Thank you.

Used transmission, I would recommend taking clutch out, cleaning forks and resetting clutch. If transmission has been sitting for a while, they can rust and clutch and forks can be stuck
