Hi Everyone,
Here is my pack of interviews that we did with Esai Morales, Elizabeth Pena, and Lou Diamond Phillips from the 25th Anniversary of the film "La Bamba". This was sponsored by Columbia College Chicago and we did a segment on it for our Comcast Original show Community Connection. www.CN100.tv
I hope that you enjoy it.
:-)
Take Care!
Always,
Lee/PaigeYes

What I loved about this movie is how valens took care of his mom and promised her out of poverty. Sadly, his sudden fame was over before it even started. I still tear up when she first hears her boy has died and shouts "not my Ritchie" to bob. And that haunting sleepwalk song playing at end when bob shouts, Ritchieeeeee! At end of movie, still affects me everyplay! time I watch it!

All the credit to Valens for wanting to lift his mother out of poverty, however the reality is very few singers or musicians hit the big time.

@@kaellyvaldez8220 If they ever do a movie on the Big Bopper, it is too bad that Lou Diamond Phillips, and Gary Busey are too old to revise their roles.

This is my favorite movie of all time. The actors are all amazing and portray their characters so lifelike. It’s hard to believe for me that they aren’t actually those people! As much as I love Lou and his portrayal of Ritchie, man what about Bob? Esai is dead on for that role. You sympathize with him and hate him at the same time. Amazing work. Love this movie!!!

One of my FAVORITE movies-in fact, whenever it is on, I watch it. My younger daughter refused to watch it with me once when I rented it from Block Buster, but then as she was walking through the living room, she stopped to see it and she sat down and wouldn't move until the movie was over. Then she wanted to watch the beginning and the movie again. Now, SHE watches it whenever we happen to see that it is on tv.One of the few movies that seems to do that to people.

This is the movie that made me realize that I was aging. My friend (who was also my neighbor) was expecting an out-of-town guest but had a business meeting and wouldn't be able to get home until after 9 p.m. She asked me if I would receive her and entertain her until she could get home that night. Happy to oblige, I greeted the the visitor and asked what she wanted to do that afternoon. We discussed options, and then I got a bright idea! Since "La Bamba" had just hit the theaters, I suggested that we go see it. Since she hadn't heard about it, she asked me what it was about. I told her that it was the Ritchie Valens story. It took only one word from her to open my eyes about how time had been marching on without any awareness on my part -- *_"Who"?_* Ouch! The brief career of Ritchie Valens provided me with a life-long theme song. "Donna" was played at almost every sock hop, party, dance or prom throughout my teen years. It always garnered attention, and you can bet I milked it when given the opportunity. :) I can't remember ever sitting out a dance when it was playing.

Great snippets! I wish they could have been a little longer, but great work from a great film. Many thanks to Taylor Hackford for believing in Luis Valdes and El Teatro Campesino. I went bonkers over this film, researching all aspects of his death on microfilm, I visited his gravesite, bought a Del-Fi three album vinyl collection of Ritchie Valens at Music Plus, all before the World Wide Web was up and running. I recall seeing Elizabeth Pena in the beginning of Down and Out in Beverly Hills, what a loss. She's absolutely right when she talks about the lack of interest in L. A. with respect to the milestone this film has reached. I recall Luis Valdez in the news wanting more funding for these kinds of films shortly after the film was released nationally. He is a true hero of mine, Mr. Hackford, and of course Ritchie as well.

My grandma took us to watch this movie at theaters as a child .And growing up LOVING THE MOVIE ..I feel proud of How they portrayed Hispanics ,as humble, family that did have obstacles, rifts, and family members that RELATED TO YOUR OWN FAMILY .Like Bob could be the rebel ,cool, partying cousin Ritchie our enthusiastic nephew or brother, cousin, uncle, etc living HIS PRIME LIFE ..Rosie the neighbor or childhood aquantance that feels like a sister, a Tia, that married into family BUT HAS ALWAYS SEEMED LIKE FAMILY..OMG...AND Connie the mother that resonates and reminds me of my mom, or even ME AS A HISPANIC single MOTHER with sons that I Adore but ALSO MUST BE FIRM AND MINDFUL HOW MUCH THEY MUST RESPECT ME at any age . It's just AWESOME AWESOME MOVIE ..I was born and raised in Corpus Christi Texas..not far from Where Lou Diamond Phillips grew up ...literally hop sick and jump away from each other .

👍Watched it several times, throughly enjoyed it . Having said that my given name is Bamba and this song gave us recognition to no end. I come from a family of politicians and this was the sole Champaign song and every social event a Bamba attended this song 🎼🎵🎶🕺🏽💃🏻🎵 was played❣️Cha Cha Cha Cha 🎼🎵🎶❣️ This pass February 2018 I attended Kim, Hyun Joong Haze World Tour Concert in Mexico City, Mexico 🇲🇽 and I had a heartfelt welcoming at the airport; mind you that was my first visit to Mexico City , don’t speak the language either ❣️ Upon exiting Customs & Immigrations I was lost; asked the porters where is the shuttle service area? They had to get an interpreter and once they understood my name , Rita Fe Bamba, they were smiling 🎤 and dancing 🕺🏽 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽to La Bamba and I 💃🏻 joined them , it was amazing 😉, love ❤️ it 👏 ❤️ 🇬🇺🇺🇸

The girl who played Donna is named Danielle von Zerneck. She has acted here and there since La Bamba, but not very much. She has stayed on the production writing side of the film business pretty much ever since. Both her Dad and Mom are in the film business. I had a crush on her, I was 17 when this movie came out, and she looked just like my girlfriend at the time. I wish she would act more, and had come to this reunion!
